Back in the day before I knew how to cook when I had dates come over for dinner on numerous occasions I would make mountain house meals and put them in a fancy dish (like Tupperware) and claim that I made that dinner. I’m still with my wife 15 years later and still like eating mountain house meals when I go hunting. She was truly a keeper for putting up with me.

7 day moose hunt in 2019, by the end of day 5 I was sick of the freeze-dried bags we took and went to the oatmeal packages for the last day lol. Some were tastier than others, but when push comes to shove weight was the main concern and well its hard to pack light and not take freeze-dried meals. Great informative video Allie!

I've already liked and subbed, but take this from me: Under duress the human body can get by on 1200 or less calories per day. I know they say 2400, but our MREs in the military were 1200. Taste does not matter when you're surviving. I still remember the best meal I've ever had, and it was alone, while I was navigating, a Thai Chicken MRE that I had on top of a mountain I was scouting. I'll never forget that. Forget about taste. Take this from a prepper. You're right about one thing, of course. Portability. Keep it compact and light. In my bugout bag is a set of three freeze-dried, vacuum-packed protein bars. I don't care how they taste, after three days without nothing. The packaging is what matters; because you may find yourself alone and you don't want it punctured. Military service aside, I've lived as a hunter. The second-best meal of my life was a cup of coffee cooked over a campfire at 5am in -20 temps. I know you can relate. Taste is irrelevant. nutrition is nutrition. What weighs the least is what we carry. Again - liked and subbed. -Darkdally

Hey Allie, I'm sure when you picked your favorite ones, they have to be good. Also, I'm sure they don't compare to your cooking, but if you say there good they have to be. Great information for all the outdoors people. See you soon. You have to get out there before rifle season opens and at least drop a big doe if not a big buck for the freezer. Then it's COOKING WITH ALLIE time. Be careful and safe.

Totally agree, I think all these meals should have every key nutrient and also be supper high calorie! Also these things tend to have like no fiber lol so bring some some veggies or fiber supplements like Citrucel it can help with stomach problems from eating these meals to consistently. I would love to eat these things just at home becasue of health issues relating to not getting enough nutrients, but man are these things expensive!

Thanks for the info, I’ve never heard of this brand until this video. My question is how are you “covering” it after adding the water (what are using to cook it? Also, are they as filling as the other competitive meals (MH, HC, etc). Thanks and keep up the great work!

We just made lots of canned dog food from all the feral hogs that were rooting up our property. They were mostly big old boars that smelt so bad, lol. I worry more about my dogs having food than myself. They always put us on the meat. Question, Does Nick have a channel? If not he should start one. I'd watch it!

Freeze dried meals are a five star meal compared to what a lifeboat has. Till this day sailors have to survive on Lego block style dense granola brick. No wonder seachants are mostly liqour themed.

Im a trucker and Im trying to find nutrient dense food I can use on the road an not rely on truck stops. Theres healthy options but still gmo at truck stops but even then its expensive. Having to go Number 2 on the road can hinder delivery time. So is it freeze dried food across the board or is this Nutrient Survical brand different?
