I keep the silver skin on too, as an extra layer of protection. Remove it before cooking.

The silver skin will help preserve it for longer if you leave it on just trim it when you are about to cook

I live in Pennsylvania, about 25 to 30 mi. From the elk visitor center! There's approximately 1,500 to 1600 elk in Pennsylvania. I believe they harvest 100 to 125 every year! I put in for a tag every year just because I want that much meat! But in my opinion, I think it's all a money game. They raise over $1 million just from the applications to harvest one of those 125 elk

Most definitely going to try this here’s one of my favorite venison recipes pretty simple anything that you want to grill my favorite way is the loin cut 12’’ coat lightly with olive oil seasoned with original Everglades seasoning Let it sit for 30min to a hr Put it on the smoker if grilling sear all the way around then put the loin on the side of grill so it doesn’t cook to fast and dry it out cook to medium rare 115 no more than 120 pull it off let it sit with the bowl over 10 to 15 mins so it has time to pull the juices back in i like to cut 1/4’’ It’s really good I promise you 🤤🤤🤤

You should have put a tarp down just in case it falls off when your butchering it. I mean since you're using a vehicle

That is a massive animal! Imagine, before we had tree cranks and trucks - people used to carry that miles back to the village. That’s crazy!

Some indigenous tribes won't eat it...for good reasons and multiple reasons...I'm haudenosaunee and alot of us won't eat our clans..example a mohawk bear clan will not eat bear....also for spiritual reasons we won't eat them...again it varies with each tribe some will some won't...but some of us consider the bear our brother/sister and when you shoot them I've heard stories of them letting out screams and cries that sound human....sometimes they say "ow" or " ouch" and it's really sad....so we don't harm them...they are our friends...they let us know when it's time to get certain things done for the coming seasons...we learn alot co existing with nature ..that's another conversation...a much needed one these days

It's just not a super good idea to eat predator meat in general. Seems like it's easy to contract parasites and diseases from them.

If the meat is frozen, it can kill some Trichinella worms depending on meat, also when its cooked to at least 160 degrees, all the worms will die. So its safe to eat
