Ok, now that you're back, drinks. Easily the most overlooked piece of the nutrition puzzle, especially as it pertains to weight loss. The things you can consume and not even know it while drinking is astonishing, and it's time we bring awareness to the liquid lifelines, and the fluid failures.
What I Would Change:
Addressing Diet Sodas and Artificial Sweeteners in general. I could have been more elaborate. I found way too much inconsistent information for me to give them a pass, and Diet Sodas offer no nutritional value anyway. However, a while after making this video I had to chance to look more into artificial sweeteners and find them to be a much less risky option. So in hindsight, I would move Diet Sodas up the C or D tier. However, I can't rank them any higher due to their lack of actual nutritional contribution.
Under the Milk section, Phosphorus is listed twice. The last dense one is supposed to be Potassium.
All nutrient data is pulled from the USDA's National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference.

So apparently there are a LOT of more unknown and obscure drinks that are more popular in certain areas and among certain people. So if you feel any of these should get a bit of a spotlight, leave them here. If y'all can come up with enough maybe this list will need a part 2!

First that came to mind was bone broth and lemon/apple cider vinegar water. Edit: also infusions/herbal teas such as hibiscus, rooibos, cammomile, ginger, peppermint, sage, etc. I drink them daily but as far as I know they are just methods for sugarlessly making water not taste like water.

The problem with tea (and probably the problem with a lot of these beverage categories: coffee, beer, wine, soda, etc) is that there is a wide variety of variables. Tea has 5 major categories of processing: white, green, yellow, oolong, and puerh. Even among green teas there is a big difference between sencha and longjing. Then there’s the difference between loose leaf or tea bags. If you prepare green tea loose leaf gongfu style, it has more caffeine on average than black tea, yet in tea bags the opposite is true. I think this makes it hard to compare aside from broad strokes.

When I was a kid, I thought that coffee was the adult beverage. As I got older and started drinking coffee in my teens, I discovered that actually, alcoholic drinks are the adult beverages, and couldn't wait to start drinking alcohol. I was inspired by the top comment and wrote a song based on it: When I was a young lad, I drank water and juice. one tasty, one bland but they had the same use, for they both quenched my thirst, but the water seemed worst. It was stale, tasteless and dull, and ironically dry, and when I went without juice I thought I would die. Then as I got older, my tastes shifted anew, for strong tasting coffee, a sun-rising brew. It stired sleep from eyes as I stired my cream in, such a blessed life giver, each morning a win. All working men drank it, I'd be just like them, little did I know of that one adult jem. It's called alcohol and once I did find, a bottle of hard stuff, I left roast beans behind. Every day after work I'd hit up the bar, and 4 hours later, drive home in my car. So now that I'm grown, it's all become clear, sobriety rules, I've tossed (most of) my beers. The beverage that triumphs, best drink of all time don't jail me for saying, it isn't a crime. IT'S WATER, WATER, straight from the source! Nothing as quite as hydrating of course. Beyond the shadow of doubt don't you think, is water, water the most adult drink.

The absolute biggest red flag in an adult is saying “I don’t like the taste of water”. It’s so incredibly harmful to have disdain for the single most important thing (other than air) to put in your body. It’s a big marker that you aren’t very active as well, because anyone who works out will tell you that water can taste like the tears of angels if you are thirsty enough.

I really like this list and it's very informative. Just wanted to mention something I just learned as I was diagnosed with iron deficency recently. Tannin containing drinks such as coffee, tea, etc can inhibit your body's ability to absorb iron from food by up to 70%. You can avoid this by not drinking these drinks an hour before or after meals. They do not cause iron deficency but can contribute to it and also sloww the healing process.

Water has so many benefits thanks to its non-existent nutritional value. You cannot over-expose yourself to any vitamins, no matter how much you drink. It hydrates your mouth, promoting clean teeth, gums, and tongue. It can be consumed during any kind of fast with the only exception being fasts that specifically single water out. It can be sipped between bites during a meal to help stem appetite issues and overeating. I could go on and on. It's legendary. Definitely deserves S tier.

@RefinedRandy
@RefinedRandy Жыл бұрын
@@grannde_ "bro" MANY doctors and nutritionists suggest drinking half your body weight (in pounds) in ounces of water per day. So if you weigh 150lbs, you should drink 75 ounces of water per day. If you weigh 200lbs, you should drink 100 ounces of water per day. Water contained in juices, soda, alcoholic beverages, coffee, foods, etc should not be counted towards your water intake. In fact, if you're drinking soda, alcoholic beverages, or coffee, then you should actually be drinking even more water. Water is the absolute most vital thing for your health and life, beyond oxygen. Water filters toxins and contaminants out of your body. If your pee isn't clear, then you need to drink more water. Yellow pee means you're dehydrated. Your pee SHOULD be clear. It is highly stressed by trainers of professional athletes, and superiors in the military, that their people should only pee clear, and if it's yellow, they need to drink more water to be healthy and perform their best. If you're chugging a bunch of water at once, you're dehydrated. You shouldn't be chugging water. You should be consistently sipping on water all day long. Also on a side note, I'm shocked that he placed coffee in the A Tier. It's widely known that coffee is quite bad for you. It likely belongs in the D Tier. It's not only a diuretic, aka it dehydrates you, but it's also quite acidic and consistent drinking of coffee really throws off the balance of your body and makes your body more acidic, which isn't good for your long term health. Measuring the pH of your pee with pH paper is actually a really good way of determining your health. Many health nuts I know, including myself, have completely quit drinking coffee and now drink green tea instead. Coffee is awful for you. Perhaps not as bad as soda and energy drinks, but it's ONE of the worst things you can drink. Wine should actually be in the C Tier above coffee, bc its great at reducing stress (one of the #1 killers) as well as it has high amounts of antioxidants. Fun fact: one of the oldest people to ever live (a lady in China) was once asked what her habits are and secrets to a long and healthy life. I forget her exact age when she died, but she was WELL over 100. Around 110 if not pushing 120 years. She said "i eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Chicken is my number one source of protein. I drink 1-3 cups of green tea per day. I drink 1 glass of red wine every night. And I drink large amounts of water everyday. And even at my age, I still make sure to walk at least a few kilometers everyday. And mind games and exercises everyday too."

The best part of this series imo is how it draws attention to just how many essential nutrients there are, and how varied foods are in their nutrient profiles. It makes clear why even a very healthy food item cannot be your whole diet. Everyone has heard the advice to eat a varied diet while moderating unhealthy foods, but seeing so many nutrient profiles broken down makes it click that this really is good advice.

You don't have to show full nutritional information for all of the snacks, just the general information about how they affect people's health over time and harmful chemicals that can be found in them like high sugar/salt/fat content, additives and food dyes. Even if you don't make all of theses into videos, thank you for reading this list and considering some of them as options for future videos! ❤

Becoming more conscious of what i was drinking was the most impactful dietary change in my life. The majority of artificial sugars in my diet were coming directly from sodas/energy drinks, and i drank a lot of beer. It's been about 4 years since those were my primary beverage choices, and since I've switched to mostly water and coffee, I've been at a healthy weight (lost over 20lbs and kept it off) and feeling and sleeping much better, without really changing much else about my diet and excercise routine.

I have one thing to say about Coffee. In my personal experience, if you drink it every day for years, the anxiety can be something huge that most people don´t associate with coffee, the same goes to sleep patterns. I have big issues with both of this things and leaving coffee help me alot (80% of the problem gradually dissapear when i left coffee), but is hard to leave coffee, the first 2 weeks i have low energy and headaches, but after the first month you will feel better. (a pro tip to leave coffee is slowly drink less times and less quantity, also you can slowly replace it with green tea because it has caffeine to) If you want drink it, but try to not become an addict like myself and don´t drink everyday like a habit.

'something huge that most people don't associate with coffee' this is the biggest thing about coffee: people don't realize the negative effects of it, even if they have it it's just like protein bars where people don't realize the harm it does because they don't immediately feel it or they associate the product with health benefits

Something I thought I made clear in my conclusion, but my stats show that no one ever watches the conclusions soooo But for all the people saying milk or coffee or tea should have been in the top tier with water. I'm sorry thats just stupid. That was a very conscious decision. The way I see it, you can live off of just water and get all your nutrients from food. And if you were to say, I'm going to replace one of my glasses of water with another drink, an A tier drink I would say go for it! And an F tier drink I would say thats a terrible idea. Water kefir has lots of probiotics (different ones than milk kefir) and is easier to make than kombucha. Sugar is added to it, but it's consumed by the beneficial bacteria. You decide how much of the sugar you want the bacteria to consume before you drink it. (but don't let it get too vinegary, as that raises the alcohol content high enough to feel it, and it's not a very pleasant buzz, lol.) You can do a second ferment that turns it into a bubbly, refreshing natural soda drink.

I think you did dirty to diet soda. There are no randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled studies that indicate negative side effects of diet soda. Indeed, there are a LOT of actual randomized controlled studies and metaanalysees indicating that switching from regular soda to diet promotes weight loss and health benefits. Additionally, artificial sweeteners are quite researched and I think it is not a valid argument against them is that they are "artificial". For someone who is overweight and switches to diet soda from regular, can be a game changer in terms of health benefits. And most of the population is overweight in the first world to begin with, therefore a LOT of people can benefit from this switch. I am not saying that it is actually healthy on its own, but I think it is rather a neutral option that doesn't belong to the same tier as beer, energy drink or regular soda...

cocoa is underrated asf. look up the nutrients of cocoa and the health benefits. just use pure cocoa without sugar and its really good.

Cocoa is good. And even chocolate has some of that goodness, which I will cover... eventually. But Hot Cocoa, 99% of the time is significantly overshadowed by the sugar and what you mix it in. I do like being called out about this stuff when I could be more thorough though. More power to yall ☺️

sad to see there was no passion fruit juice. I absolutely love it, my favorite juice, however sometimes people add way too much sugar to it

Can I recommend snacks next? I know alot of people struggle with snack stuff. Some recommendations... Chips (multiple types), popcorn, baby carrots w/ranch, celery and peanut butter, raisins, candy bars, roasted peanuts, granola bars, jerky, pepperoni sticks, dried fruits, rice patties, dark chocolate, and possibly many others!

It would be interesting to have a tea/tisane list like mate, ribose, chaga, fukamushi, jasmine, etc.

One interesting note on the added sugar in juice: in the EU a drink is required to have no added sugar in oder to be labled as "juice".

You wouldn't eat 5 oranges in one sitting because they have too much sugar in them, but that's exactly what you have in a single glass of EU-labelled "juice".

@@pubcollize Well, but that doesnt change the fact that there is no added sugar in it.

@@UnmenschgebliebenerMann67 That doesn't change the fact that (acc. to the data in this list) orange juice has about as much sugar in it as: sugary soda, sweetened hot cocoa, sweetened tea, lemonade. all of which are in F and D tiers. Also from what I've seen people tend to drink large volumes of orange juice, and small volumes of energy drinks. Energy drinks in this list is between as much sugar as orange juice, to double the sugar as orange juice. But if you'd compare the volumes people actually consume rather than an arbitrary portion you can easily get as much as, if not more, sugar in a single sitting of orange juice. But Brussels says it's healthy, and TUV says it's naturilch, so I guess that's good enough.

@@pubcollize I wont disagree, but it should be kept in mind that natural sugar is not as unhealthy as added sugar.
