@1:59 The sodium content is misleading a bit. Beef has some sodium in it, of course. But as you cook it you season it more on the outside to make it taste better. they taste of almost nothing if you don't season them. Having cooked Impossible and Beyond patties I didn't need to season them. I wager that the actual as-eaten sodium content of the beef is much higher than the table shows, which seems to show the raw meat status. If you have ever eaten an unseasoned beef patty before going plant based, you know what i am talking about.

At 4:46 Greger states one can't show cause and effect until plant protein is put to the test in experimental research (RCTs) but earlier references the 2017 IARC monograph on red and processed meat which exclusively uses observational data, and also references smoking and lung cancer risk which that relationship is entirely observational data. Hes effectively contradicting himself in the video. Still good overall data being presented showing plant protein is more health promoting to animal protein generally though.
@jamesherried926914 сағат бұрын
No,he's just presenting what evidence and studies he's aware of,whether it's observational studies or randomized controlled studies (which are hard to come by for humans).
@marianorgr9 сағат бұрын
Causation is inferred when pooling all the lines of evidence together, not by a single study or a single design. Smoking and lung cancer causality was established looking at diverse lines of evidence together and making a rational thought

It's all a balancing act. One of my docs told me my cholesterol levels were too low! What happens to your body without enough cholesterol? Well, I stopped as much oatmeal... Your body needs HDL and LDL cholesterol. Does it need saturated and unsaturated fats as well? There apparently is such a thing as too healthy for some people.

The potential for heavy metals, pesticides and pfas has left me no place to run for safe foods. Any ideas if plant proteins are safe from these toxins? Apparently my oatmeal is killing me now with roundup. I'm trying high quality peanuts daily. Are peanuts safe?
@hornsteinhof759210 сағат бұрын
I recommend not to exaggerate it - where I come from, there are review magazines for foods like Stiftung Warentest or Ökotest which analyze foods for residues, fungal toxins, heavy metals and other contaminants. These will help you to find the highest quality foods of each category!

It's all a balancing act. Better break out that tight rope! My doc said I was eating too much oatmeal and bringing my cholesterol too low! The extra complication is that we are all unique. Some people may benefit from eating less healthy. How do you know if that includes you? You almost have to become a biochemist yourself. We all should become biochemists!
@gooberpeas79268 сағат бұрын
No, peanuts are not safe. Peanuts, like so many other annual crops, are sprayed with glyphosate as a "desiccant," not as a pesticide, thus even organic peanuts likely contain glyphosate. I have found only one brand that protects its peanut butter from glyphosate, and it boasts glyphosate-free certification. "No place to run for safe foods" -- I feel it.

Saturated fats are not bad, we’ve been eating them since we’ve learned how to cook, in other words, since we’ve existed as a species. Animal fats just so happen to be perfect for cooking and that’s what we’ve been eating for the past 200,000 years. cheap seed oils are bad. Unless it says “organic” or “expeller pressed,” it usually means it’s been chemically processed. Beyond burgers use cheap oil and preservatives, The real deal meats are much healthier. If you want your burger and want to have it too, just use ground venison or bison. If you want a plant-based alternative, then don’t even think about burgers. Just grind up some beans with some oats and boom, you’ve got yourself a complete protein flower to put in your smoothies for thickening, although it may mess with your gut, if you’re not used to it.
