Dr. Greger has drastically improved my health and quality of life because he educated me so well. I was feeling sick all the time, fatigued, and barely being able to walk a block….to feeling much better, and walking miles just by eating whole plants. I’m even a gardener now.

I’m listening to this just moments after I received my latest annual labs telling me that I am very healthy in my 50s. This is because of my vegan diet. Thank you for the information you provide on this lifestyle.

My father had colon cancer and waited to get a colonoscopy. He had to wear a colostomy bag for several years - so embarrassing for him. I’m 70 years old and get a colonoscopy every 5 years. Over the years the preparation drink has improved. I’m also a vegetarian. The grocery stores have freezer sections for meatless hamburger, chicken, breakfast sausage, and other meatless meals. Thank you, Dr. Greger, for keeping us informed on the latest news.

Can I just say after Dr G's tips, my morning oat's have gone up many levels of enjoyment since adding organic cocoa powder/dates/blueberries and yogurt with strawberries/ground flaxseed is totally awesome.

@k.h.6991
@k.h.6991 23 күн бұрын
Dr Greger would say it's better to eat the cabbage raw or cooked. It's the added salt.
@k.h.6991
@k.h.6991 23 күн бұрын
I think consuming a bit of high salt fermented vegetables, in the context of a low salt whole foods plant based diet, is fine. We know fermented vegetables do help disbiosis in the gut. So if you're transitioning away from a low fiber diet, including sauerkraut would be a good idea. Get the gut bugs in place to digest plant foods.

Native Africans with sedentary lifestyles and a diet of processed low fiber foods exhibit less colon cancer than their relatives in the US. Lower meat consumption helps explain this, even if factors such as slavery and malnutrition are difficult to compare.

Processed food manufacturers need to hear from consumers that less ADDED chemicals, sugar, oil and salt is wanted in their food products. Why is there so much ADDED sugar in everything, even bread. That's just crazy Email, text, tweet or phone your favorite producer of poison and let them know consumers want less salt, oils and sugars in their products. Let their customer service department know that all the extra added salt, oil and sugar is not necessary or desired and is causing health issues. Reduce or eliminate highly processed food from your diet if you can. Go vegan for your health, whole food plant based. Go vegan for the animals. Go vegan for the planet. Go vegan and be healthier and happier. A lower risk of heart disease and cancer for you and a better planet for everyone, human and animals. Eating healthy is not a diet it is a healthy life style. Go out and look around. The vast majority of people you see are obese or al least over weight. People do not need to be fat shamed BUT being over weight is not healthy and leads to a host of illnesses. When you look around you can see all the unhealthy people without taking a blood test or a fitness test "NORMAL" for the average American is "UNHEALTHY" The health of society is in decline.

Even children today have signs of artery disease. Fast foods and sugary drinks have long term consequences. There is an obesity epidemic today where over 60% of the population is overweight or obese. What is common today and "NORMAL" is not healthy. The average person today is not healthy and is taking medications. Heart attacks were once only common in people over 65. Today people in their 40 are having heart attacks. Add more plants and vegetables to your diet and less junk and overly processed foods Get off the couch. Get off the iphone or ipad. Get up and go for a walk, run, bike ride , garden, work outside. Move more, sit less.

Dr Greger, I am confused by your statements that high stool PH is associated with colon cancer. Isn't higher PH more alkaline on the acid base PH scale. Below is what AI says. The acid-base pH scale is a measurement system that indicates how acidic or basic a substance is, ranging from 0 (highly acidic) to 14 (highly basic), with a neutral point at 7; a pH below 7 is considered acidic, and a pH above 7 is considered basic. Key points about the pH scale: Scale range: 0 to 14 Neutral point: pH 7 Acidic: pH less than 7 Basic (alkaline): pH greater than 7
@k.h.6991
@k.h.6991 23 күн бұрын
Yes, Dr. Greger is saying eating a high fiber diet gives a more acidic stool, which is good. A high pH stool causes cancer.

It's also common in Africa to eat a lot of palm oil, so the issue probably isn't just any saturated fat

the doctor is being disingenous. the best source of RS is TUBERS, not Grains, not Pulses. in addition to giving us RS, they provide VItamin C. (Tubers = potatoes and sweet potatoes)
@PhilWhelanNow
@PhilWhelanNow 23 күн бұрын
No, it’s **YOU** being disingenuous. The title is ‘Preventing Colon Cancer’ *NOT* just about resistant starch. Plants & a great variety of these, increases the spread of fibres - so many kinds of fibres - and add countless polyphenols , other vitamins than C, etc too. Score yourself a C+ though. Must try harder.

@@PhilWhelanNow the good doctor specifically listed only grains and pulses when mentioning RS. i wonder why? maybe he does like Dr. McDougall's Starch Solution- so much better than MG's diet, don't you think?
@rupertbear9116

tubers for the win. 1. tubers are a source of Vitamin C, unlike grains and pulses. (not unless you count sweetcorn and garden peas as staples); 2. unlike dried packs of pulses, tubers don't need to be soaked, just cook and enjoy; 3. the okinawan diet is basically Sweet Potatoes; 4. the geophyte diet of the naked mole rat is roots AND tubers. 5. bifidobacteria is a resistant starch muncher.
