I am alive because I read How Not To DIe. After surviving 2 carotid artery dissections 20 years ago, living with Lupus and RA, I decided to change the one thing I could, my diet. Vegetarian for 17 years and plant based for last 7 years. Thank you Dr. Greger

If you still have the lupus and RA you might want to watch Dr brooke goldner and her wellness wednesday episodes. She healed her own lupus many years ago with her raw vegan diet that she gives the information for free.

My brother-in-law had the shock of his life when he found out he had advanced cardiovascular disease, his arteries not just choked with fatty deposits but calcified. He thought he was healthy. But decades of restaurant and take-out 'food' took its toll. To his credit, he's completely changed his lifestyle, learned how to cook, eats a predominantly plant-based diet now with only the occasional bit of fish or meat and goes for long power walks. Within just a month his alarming triglycerides and LDL numbers returned to the high end of normal. He's determined to get his health back. I've forwarded numerous Dr. Gregor and Dr. Carvalho videos to him.

Im a soy boy for years. I do MMA and Jiu Jitsu yet I am a “Soy Boy”. So when I tell people that I am a plant based combat athlete, they always ask “where’s your Protein? Don’t you get weak?” Then I show them my martial art fights and my weightlifting videos. Then I show them my plate full of high protein grain, legumes, and soy products (milk, edamame, miso, soy sauce, etc) and greens. All the protein I ever need. To work a 9-5 job and to train hard in m martial arts pursuit.

I love my oat groats too! But to eat breakfast like a king and dinner like a pauper I moved my oat groats to the dinner slot and now I have lentils and broccoli for breakfast most mornings lately. Moving the oat groats to the evening is like a nice treat to finish the day off too because I make mine so sweet and delicious with dates and cocoa powder, Ceylon cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, and fresh ground clue, blueberries and maybe a think or two more. And I bought a grain mill so I can make my oat groats more like steel cut and cook them quicker but I can also throw in some kamut, faro, Bulger, etc and they'll all be uniform size for even cooking time :-)

Dr. Greger is one of my role models as a future physician, it's always great to learn from him! Also, it's unfortunate how the term "soy boy" has gained traction, and is the result of one of the biggest misconceptions in health. Most people don't realize how beneficial soy products are, like soy beans/tofu/edamame, etc. Most also don't know that the real issue with estrogen, comes from animal estrogen they consume from animal products. The phytoestrogens in soy are actually cancer protective, in part bc they activate beta receptors rather than alpha receptors that animal estrogen activates, leading to higher cancer risk- especially breast/uterine/ovarian/prostate cancers!

Sorry to break it to you, but 'soy boy', while clearly a pejorative, is not aimed at gay men. It's aimed at urban men who are seen by many as fragile, somewhat feminized, lacking resourcefulness in difficult times. We in the country see most city men this way, fairly or not. I wish, Dr. Greger would speak clearer. He's hard to understand for a non-English speaker & even the automated subtitles don't get him half of the time (and of course, it's in the moments where I didn't understand him, either 😩) Still don't know what he has for breakfast. I guess it's rolled oats, but the subtitles say "oak roats" at 0:54 & "oak roots" at 1:17 & I have no idea what that is... 🤷 And according to Google, spermidine is highest in wheat germ & all the spermidine supplements are made from wheat germ, too. At least here in Germany.
