I just got the zenology pro lifetime keys along with Juno etc as a pack. All lifetime keys. They are great! Got a year of ultimate thrown in.

With the lifetime keys for zenology pro plus the model expansions I have serious power. It’s on a bundle deal right now. $495 isn’t cheap but I feel like I have zenology, a system 8, a Jupiter 8 and Jupiter X, a Juno 106, etc for a fraction of the hardware price. I also got a year of ultimate included which, in itself is $199. Played using my NI S88mkII, it’s fantastic. I particularly like the fact the model expansions try not to look like the original instrument. The UI is optimized so you get the sound but with a more usable interface. It’s great stuff. Along with Omnisphere, keyscapes, the output complete bundle, NI Komplete, arturia V7 collection, synthmaster and Moog, Korg and Studio electronics analog synths, I now have my dream studio. The power is incredible.

Thanks for asking the right questions and trying to get to the heart of all the confusion. Their whole roll out with zenology with regards to expansion packs, what's compatible, what works where etc. is needlessly confusing. I love the sounds however, got the free version that no longer works, but hope to get it going again.

This video was super helpful; now I'm much more excited about Zencore than before. Before this video I just thought it was a cheaper on cpu power ACB and that's it. Now I can see it has a lot of potential. It would be great if they could include ACB models within the zen Core in the future; when cpu power is cheaper.

There are many greats out there but Roland holds a special place with its sound ,would never give up my 808,303 and 101 you can copy these sounds but never replace them.Now it's a new exciting place Roland are moving to via pc ,iPad ect and there new machines sound awesome.

Great job. I am now neck deep in Roland. Have ultimate Roland cloud. Zenbeats on iPad and iPhone plus laptop. Hopefully will but verselab this month. Not a “ synth guy”. More guitar player songwriter guy. Every day I am more convinced the Roland zen core, cloud and hardware ecosystem is the way for me to go.. zenbeats to rough out ideas on iPad. Use zenbeats as acree for verselab. Export form iPad to zenbeats or studio 1. Use MV-1 at the beach. Use MVS-1as sound module for a midi controller. Use MVS-1 as sound module for guitar with fishman triple play. Have same sounds every where. Watched your video on loading zenology bank into iPad. Gonna go do that today. Also cool to see Brandon still at Roland. I was a sonar guy from sonar 2.0.

For a long time I thought the zencore stuff was a step backwards from ACB; which in some ways it is such as 100% authentic recreation of the original (which is very important to some people including myself; because if it doesn't sound exactly the same then I might as well just use a free vst.) But; I understand why Roland has done this. You can do a lot more with the zen core on the same CPU power than with ACB. So; perhaps something like the mc-707 groovebox wouldn't be possible with ACB currently, or very expensive. Also now with zencore it looks like you can do things with those sounds that the original circuitry couldn't support. I can see the benefits of both; but Please Roland don't discontinue the ACB idea. Please always have them as an option for those who want authentic, alive sounds.

Yes, They both use Zen Core, you can transfer them both ways but I don't think it works for Model expansions (like Jupiter8 ).

Can you compare the vst with the new roland fantom for example sound wise ? Which one sounds better? I am a bit confused. I do have a Roland Fantom X6 and I feel like this workstation sounds better than most VST's. Can you tell me your opinion? Plugin VS Hardware?

I don’t have access to a Fantom but to a Jupiter XM. I’m guessing it would be in the same quality than the Fantom x. I’ll check them out.

More and more synth manufacturers are blurring the lines between software and hardware synths connected via USB to your DAW with some incorporating plug in apps representing their hardware synths as in the case of Access Virus, the after market Sequential Pro3 app plug in, and now Roland synths. And 2 way communication where you make the patch in the plug in and send it to the synth or visa versa. Seems to be a natural development and trend that will be hard to not implement for other manufacturers.

Hi Nu-Trix, I want to keep as DAWless as possible. Is it possible with a Pro membership to download patches from the Model Axpansions and load them in my MC-707 to tweak and use them there? Is the ZEN-core in the MC-707 capable of use the patches of these Model Expansions? Can you make a video on the integration of the software and hardware?

I’m working on a video about the MC-101 and Zenology soon . For what I understand for now, it should possible to take preset from Zenology and export to the Mc-101. I’ll dig more into it.

Marcel Smoorenburg I think you can export to MC-101 but I’m not sure you can edit the patches in the MC. Today Roland is coming out with a new Zenbeats 2.0. Maybe a zen core / zenology integration?

I don’t think it is actually important. No software will replace exactly the hardware. I see it as another synth that was inspired by the original. It has it own sound and features. It can be close to the original hardware but it will not be a clone.

I'm confused. Rolandcloud.com says in the FAQ section: "ZENOLOGY cannot be used as an editor [for hardware products]" and "To use Sound Packs, Wave Expansions, and Model Expansions with compatible hardware, please purchase the corresponding Lifetime Key." (So, not possible with a Pro subscription?)

@@Nu-trix Thanks! When they released the JX-8P Model Exp, I misunderstood that they were launching Pro right alongside it. It seems like Zenology is Roland's 2nd pass at hardware-software integration, which they first attempted with ACB (but it was too processor intensive). We'll see if Zenology gets it right. Jupiter X sounds pretty good.

I had such a crush on the Roland System 8 that I dreamed that one day I would save up and get it. Now with all these Zen Core stuff, I am confused. Since Roland is pushing for this, does this mean that those of us who want or have the synths that support plug-outs will be left in the cold? I'm starting to think maybe I should watch the space or get a Jupiter X-m (or an RD88, lol) and then design Juno sounds using the Zenology stuff and put them on the Jupiter (that is possible, right?). What do you think?

The system 8 will probably never get another update in my understanding. So buy it for what it can do today. The plug out plugins will contenu to exit in the Roland Cloud. What is crystal clear is that Roland is structuring it’s next wave of products around the Zen Core - Zenology universe. If you get a good price on a system 1m it could be a great catch. But today if I was looking between the System 8 or Jupiter X-m if would go for the later.

Hey , thanks for the vid I’m a subscriber to Roland Cloud and loving it but , I cannot find how to load zenology sound packs , they don’t seem to show up in the menus separately there is just loads of sounds but no clear way to tell which sound pack I’m using . Question: A bit of a head scratcher - The Jupiter 8 model synth for zencore - how is it capable of using cross mod and sync at the same time? The zencore structure allows you to use only one structure (ring, sync, xmod, etc) for each osc pair (1&2 and 3&4 respectively). I was thinking osc 2 was actually osc 3( using structure 3-4) under the hood, but in the synth signal flow on upper right, it shows both sync and xmod modulating osc 2. It’s Important because if I were to design a something nd with it in zencore than use that sound in my mc707 which only can do one structure per pair, then will it translate over. Correctly? Hmmm Does this make sense my question? Thanks

That is why the Jupiter-8 is called a Model expansion. It does things that that Zenology cannot do. Both are still using the ZenCore Technology but applied in different ways.

Exactly. Only Zencore patches are compatible with the MC-707.

@@FaidedBTB what I understand from Roland, and I might be mistaken, it is that they have this synth engine AKA “Zen-Core” that runs in many of their devices. I’m guessing more new Zen-Core based devices will come out in the future. For them Zenology is another device running Zen-Core (virtual I agree). Them all these Zen-Core based devices/softwares should able to interchange their patch memory. Zenology is not an editor for the MC-101 or 707 or Fantom. It’s the same synth engine of the Fantom in a computer software. So someone can have the same sound on stage with the fantom and in studio with Zenology. The pro version open the synthesis window for the user. It would be cool if they could make it work also like a realtime editor for the fantom. But for now these are just the same soft synth running in either a computer or on a dedicated device. At least that is how I understand it.

You don't need to apologise for having a preference. A lot of Zencore was built around the way the world and the industry is changing. How products might be used live and in the home, or studio. How they might interact. With sound quality and feel, there is some subjectivity - but there is also a standard. Which is cost. The search for an attractive feature set and price point -- is needed on the large scale to keep the company in the game along side the multitude of software offerings and alternatives (net income). But that isn't to say that Roland wants to abandon products. Simply that times, change. So must we all.
