The DMX was my first drum machine but because I could not sync it to tape, I sold it and got a Yamaha that would. I have always regretted that decision. I loved it's sound. I just got this plug and I'm in love all over again. And the huge bonus, you don't have to worry about sync lol!

GForce is good at making these recreations, and there are lots of nice features in this product-for instance extensive CC controls. There are however two glaring omissions that were central to the DMX product line. First is separate outs, and in this case GForce should implement a separate stereo channel out for each instrument, because that is how we use things today. The second glaring omission is the ability to load in samples. These were swappable chip based machines. Even Oberheim released the Prommer to support this ability of the DMX. Considering all sequencing is done outside of the plugin, which is fine, they basically have a very nice simple sample playback plugin, which is weak on DMX features.

My first ‘pro’ drum machine was a DX. I made a mixtape for my girlfriend and started it with the Blue Monday kick pattern and a few surprises of my own making. Yeah, yeah. So what. Well, at the time, 1983/4(?) that wasn’t a thing and people were stunned , many of them because they said I was just copying (originality was the ‘hook’ for everything, before superstar DJs and sampling everything - you’d get more kudos for a terrible sounding song that was original than something with technical proficiency and a four bar turnaround) . So, I’ve bought the plug-in. I do wish it had the sequencer but I’m probably alone there. I find workflow is at least as important as the sounds and the way we used to programme drum beats was very much dependent on how the (limited at the time) sequencing was done.

One more thing about the sequencer - I never ran my DX through my Russian Dragon to check, but a lot of early digital gear had timing quirks. From a few years later, hippety hoppety types love the Akai MPC swing and jitter. Again, I don’t know if the DX or DMX had anything of note, but it would be interesting to know.

Interesting. I have two questions : 1. Does the software allow us to send from it multiple separate outputs? 2.Is there a way to remap the midi signal?
@nuttob4 ай бұрын
No separate outputs. Midi has two settings...original DMX and general MIDI. CPU is low so you could make multiple instances for separate outputs.

Vprom is far superior: -Highly accurate sound using EPROM decoding - It has DMX sounds -Flexibility to load sounds from many vintage drum machines (you can load your own samples // "Samples from Mars" for example -Individual outputs for all sounds -Realistic hi-hat behavior -Built-in sequencer
@Seany062 ай бұрын
Loading DMX samples into VPromm does not sound like a DMX, you get the DMX sound with the tonality of the Linn so if you're looking for the DMX sound, it's not the right tool. I bought VPRom immediately when it came out for this reason but stopped using it shortly after it is great for Linn LM1 sounds of course, I am disappointed though that he or no one else has come up with a DMX plugin since that actually models the DMX circuitry and timing. This VST seems OK but the lack of multiple outputs sucks.. I've mainly just used Samples over the years but now I've switched to Audiolounges DX plugin as I know they have recorded the samples properly and it has multiple outs
