The instructions that come with the tool suggest that it’s adjusted for different thicknesses by controlling the amount of compression. ie. It’s not always say 6mm compression. I think the use of specific rivnuts depending on target thickness is a good idea, but can be very expensive for home workshops.

Can you recommend a good tool for plusnuts and nutsert ? I’m in Australia and building out my van into a camper. Cheers

When I insert rivnuts into thicker material , i countersunk the back first, providing I have access to the back.

right, bc why wouldnt you want to make the parent metal weaker. ie, opposite of adding a washer

@@jasonstephenson9959 convenience, it’s not always about strength. When you have only one arm, this is always a design decision.

@@jasonstephenson9959 even without the convenience thing, you might need a strong bracket to do the job and want to attach a light object to it.

I just purchased a nutsert tool, along with a huge supply of nutserts, never understanding that the nuts has to be used according to thickness of material! I was under the assumption that they were knurled to expand (or 'swell' if you will) to grab the diameter of the hole. I'm glad that you posted this! Use of the nutsert tool is obviiusly somewhat more tedious than one might think. Thank you for sharing this information! I'm sure I'm not the only dummy out here! Lol ..... Now, to shop for assorted nutserts that vary in thickness or depth requirements. If you have links for where to purchase such assortments, please advise. Thank you again.

If I have to use a nutsert on thicker plate, i countersink the back, assuming you can get to it.

Great video, it's not rocket science, they are an excellent tool, mine has done a lot of work and only ever needs a touch of machine oil and popped back in it's box.

Sometimes people need to be told.....and usually someone gets upset because, for them, knowledge is burden rather than a gift. It's surely stated in the operational instructions also.

I think it's fair for him. He probably gets this all the time due to user error and it hurts all customers. Bad reviews from these people may turn people away from good good products. Undeserved returns take away from real RMAs and user issues. And the uninformed users themselves go through a bunch of heartache and wasted time because they didn't use the tool right. Everybody looses.

Of course this is an informative video, but anyone with half a brain should realize they can just tap the workpiece at the end haha.

People with the other half of a brain cell know some materials are too thin to be tapped.

Looks like a piece of aluminum. Those threads are soft and tend to gall, so there are a lot of situations where rivnuts would still make sense. :P
