A good tutorial, but would be nice to have more information or rules of thumb to know how to set the rivnut so it is tight, but not so tight that the threads get damaged during installation.

Can riv nuts be used on boat gunwale which is aluminum backed with plywood ?

What is the rule on hole size? Zero clearance or should there be a slightly larger hole than diameter of rivnut?

They are not 100% permanent, but they are intended for a permanent applicaiton. Technically, nothing is really permanent!

Use a dremel or a drill to remove them, worked for me every time
