If you find out a person has raped and killed your mom, would you kill the person back if you could? Now there are many possible answers, but Luffy wouldn't kill someone even if his entire family and crew were executed in front of him. There are very few characters that can be excused for not wanting to kill no matter what happens, but for that to be the case the character that doesn't want to kill must have a good reason for it. The only reason Luffy doesn't kill is because he's designed to be a stereotypical "hero". One Piece has far too convenient morals and ideologies and if you look beneath the surface it's really fucking shallow. I mean Luffy cannot even be considered a pirate. Now also in terms of character good characters have flaws. Luffys main flaw is the classic MC big dumb in the same vein as Goku. If I were to shortly describe Luffy as a character it would be as the most delusional self-absorbed naive and retarded protagonist in history. I was fine with the ass pulls in One Piece for a long time, but it became too much for me. Fight after fight, story arc after story arc there is ass pull after ass pull.

He is a stupid impulsive character, without thinking or reasoning as the story and Emilia point out. Even doing things that directly annoy or harm other characters such as Emilia, because he selfishly and foolishly believe them to be in both their interests. If Emilia ever began to hate Subaru, he could easily become an obsessive stalker essentially. He is very flawed, and less selfless than he would like others to believe. Most of his actions seem outwardly good, but the need to do good was not his motive, as he does not set out to be a hero the majority of the time. Kazuma for comparative purposes in Konosuba often does good deeds as well, but he doesn't do things because he is selfless or heroic, rather out of self interest as well, or by accident. Darkness also in a similar manner also often appears virtuous and heroic to other characters, but is neither. In truth, she is a horny degenerate that sometimes acts knightly. Subaru isn't great tho, i find him annoying, and his story is convoluted.

Technically Shirou can fit into many categories cause his development is dependent on which route, though Fate and UBW Shirou's are pretty similar. HF Shirou is more of a deconstruction since he strays away from being selfless. I think the anime is the biggest issue when it comes to why people dislike Shirou. In the visual novel, most of the dialogue is Shirou's thoughts where we learn more about his character yet almost all of that depth and information isn't present in the anime, thus he's presented as a sort of 1-dimensional shounen protagonist in comparison to everyone else on this video.

Imo Shirou gets one of the worse portrayals on why he does things in the anime (bc lack on internal dialogue doesn't help), his survivors guilt is the actual reason why he puts himself in harms way rather than let others do so after all (which his guilt is also why he wants to be a hero that saves everyone to "redeem" himself for surviving). Living for the sake of others in order to repay the fact that he is still alive is his whole shtick thus throwing himself into danger in order to avoid others from doing. And each route is helping him overcome that guilt in a different way due to the person he interacts the most in each route (the waifu of the route basically).

@@davidashton3671 Unfortunately, those flashbacks might play a key part in how they show his story but by the time they show up, people already have their own view on how he is in the anime. I mean, one of the easiest shows of Shirou's survival guilt in the anime is during the Archer fight in the UBW route. But the problem of not having internal dialogues in that and the Fate route is that until those moments you can't really connect with his thoughts and what we see is him getting in the way to protect someone who doesn't need that thus pushing you towards thinking of him as a useless character or one who gets in the way. At least, that's my opinion on it

Allen walker is kind of a "Moral Jesus" tier but he has his own motivations that make much more sense and is better written then Tanjiro and Deku. Being a morally good Character doesn't necessarily make them bad it's all about execution.

One thing that probably helps a lot is how depressing the story of D.Gray-man can get. The dude actually has to fight hard for his morality. As the protagonist he fits the world very well, similar to how Luffy isn't that great a character by himself, but is the perfect protagonist for the world of One Piece TL;DR a good protagonist is measured by how he fits his world, and Allen fits his perfectly

Subaru is completely different though because he gets to reset if he messes up, thus he doesn't have to bear huge consequences, unlike Midoriya who goes in no matter what. Personally i Think He is just the typical anime protagonist whereas someone like giorno fits 100% into the theme of part 5 which is fate. Giornos requiem stand is fate. It Can alter fate to whatever extent it has to if giorno is in danger. This is What makes diavolo a great villain in this setting. Diavolos stand is supposed to make him control the fate of everyone around him while the ability is active yet giornos stand managed to alter diavolos fate. They're both big fans of All-Might, and as far as Bakugo's concerned, he's at least a little miffed that Deku may or may not have been hiding his quirk for all this time... One the best main characters imo that is the character but, doesn't even care about being a main of their own series because they just don't care about their anime in general. Along with what the plot is, training to become strong, power ups, ripping off other anime, messing up his image on numerous occasions is *DEFINITELY* the dead fished eyed Idiot samurai Sakata Gintoki (imo btw).

God I really wish Nux would make more of these in depth anime videos. I loved listening to everyone cause it gave me a new understanding of a series/character/scene. I watch all these old one on loop at work cause they are so good
