I really enjoy this series a lot. The No Repeating rule leads to some interesting team building choices to create a synergy throughout every game. I think Gen 4 will be the toughest one with four more games containing Kanto coming up. Luckily Gen 5 will give you a bit of a breather with the Pokédex reset. I'm really looking forward to the next episodes. As someone who regularly and religiously watches many creators doing RBY Solo runs, I don't mind the 'repetitive narration' that much - it is three times the same story and the same enemies you're fighting, of course there is gonna be repetition. What you could try if you wanted to break that up, is going through the story once and jump between the games: Roxanne in Ruby, Roxanne in Sapphire, Roxanne in Emerald, then all Brawlys, then all Wattsons, etc.

I'm not gonna lie I'm pretty disappointed that the encounters are completely pre-set and there's no luck involved there, doesn't really feel like a Nuzlocke anymore. Would have loved to see the variables of getting less optimal encounters and having to play around that down the line. I'll still be enjoying the rest of the series but I feel like this could have been explained better and how this is a modified ""nuzlocke""
@ekbaseball1
@ekbaseball1 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I think it would be more strategy/difficult to not preset encounters. Encounter mapping is a big part of HC nuzlockes, and with all these games the only "difficulty" is making sure you can get enough encounters for fights. It would be cool to see skipping encounters on some routes early in the game, or being able to use dupes clause to encounter map for a 1% in a later game, because you've had all the other pokemon earlier. Right now it just seems like a showcase of lesser used mons, when one of the most standard nuzlocke rules isn't applied.
@keebs5780
@keebs5780 2 жыл бұрын
@@ekbaseball1 Completely agree! Late game encounter mapping with dupes clause was something I thought would be really cool to see. I also wonder if the rerolling encounters will extend to like, abilities or natures in later games. I imagine he doesn’t count him running or the Pokémon running as a failed encounter (as he caught tauros in gen 1) so he could just run away over and over until he gets a mon with the right ability.

Huh. TIL - in generation 2 and 3, Glare does not affect Ghost-types. And it seems to be the only exception. Looks like Attract, Encore, Flash, Growl, Tail Whip, Lock-On, Pain Split, Perish Song, Roar, Scary Face, Sing, Smokescreen, Sweet Scent -- they all work on Ghost types. Quote from Bulbapedia: "Status moves typically do not employ type effectiveness; however, Ground-type Pokémon are immune to Thunder Wave based on type interactions, and Ghost-type Pokémon are immune to Glare based on type interactions in Generations II and III only."

I like the added clarifications of your exceptions to the nuzlocke and hardcore rules. The description is clear. Encounters are chosen, not just the first one. The nuzlocke doesn't start until balls are available - a common modification that many people play with. Pokémon that aren't used do not count. E.g. HM users and starters in remakes.

One of my favorite parts of gen 2 is how it also included gen 1. I wish more generations would've done this, I wish they'd revisit this concept in the future. Like connecting Kalos and Galar, as they're France and the UK; then tying Paldea into Kalos, assuming it is actually based on Spain. Or imagine a Japan mega-region, a Pokemon nation/country, considering the first four generations were outright or heavily based on actual regions in Japan. Though generations seem to be more inspired by areas rather than be directly based on an area. Kanto is most of actual Kantō and the southeastern portion of Chūbu. Johto is the eastern ~third of Shikoku, a small amount of Chūgoku, most of Kansai, and southern Chūbu. Hoenn is entirely Kyushu and some of its islands. Sinnoh is the majority of Hokkaidō, minus the southwestern tip, the northeeastern tip, and its islands. Sevii Islands range from the Izu islands to the Ogasawara island. Though, arguably, various unused areas, such as Sinnoh's islands and northeastern tip, are used as legendary islands. I don't like this argument, these areas should be proper expansions to the map, similar to Sevii Islands in gen 2, but at proper scale. This leaves a lot of area unused. Between Hoenn and Johto would be a region, taking up the majority of Shikoku and Chūgoku, as Johto takes up a small portion of both. There would be a region just north of Kanto and Johto that takes up the rest of Chūbu, the small northern portion of Kantō that isn't taken up, and the southern portion of Tōhoku. Then another region between there and Sinnoh that takes up the rest of Tōhoku and the southwestern tip of Hokkaidō. The Okinawa islands could either be another Sevii situation or could be it's own region much like Alola was. The rest could be filler and extensions. I know I didn't involve spinoff games, I don't know where those take inspiration from, but I don't consider them part of the core Pokemon world, so I'm not involving them. I'd consider those as an alternate timeline thing, just like how the generational gimmicks and remakes are explained in theory. Though, there may have to be some re-scaling of regions. As well as some slight map rotations to keep a common compass, Hoenn's north is definitely not Kanto's-Johto's north, though may better align with Sinnoh's north, but Hoenn-Sinnoh is a bit off-axis with each other. A mega-region of 7 or 8 regions that all share borders, with a fairly wide open sea for even more open borders. If Pokemon never branched out from Japan, this could arguably be what we'd have today; Okinawa being the gen 7 island group region, the northern portion of Tōhoku that's sub-Sinnoh being the gen 8 mostly vertical region, gen 5 and 6 would've been the filler around Johto and Kanto. It's a pipe dream, but this would be the ultimate region clustering. Big open world, have a lot more side-towns that aren't gym or story cities, non-linear progression with intertwined stories rather than having just one antagonistic group, maybe events can vary based on when, where, and how far along you are in other stories; not only long playtime with tons of content, but absurd amounts of replay value, especially if you get to choose different starting locations that allow for different non-linear branches, honestly this could be on-par with big RPGs, a thousand hour sink like Skyrim was, etc. Plus the 'national dex' could be unlocking regional dexes with multiple professors. Then imagine the various challenges like nuzlockes and speedruns, imagine how complex the pathing would be for these challenges. Honestly, if Pokemon were to ever have another story-based console game, console being in quotes given the current Nintendo platform of course, this would be a great change of pace from the typical formula; like Colosseum and its sequel, but much, much larger and so much more complex, with more familiarity to the mainline series. Though there would need to be some significant changes to the base formula, maybe not having a level 99 cap, world-based leveling, etc. Though, I wouldn't trust GameFreak to pull this off, it'd be too big for them and they'd make so many bad decisions along the way.

I like how there's certainly some MVP's on your teams, but Dunsparce & *_E_* clearly steal the spotlight often enough

This series is interesting enough as a non-nuzlocke series, I'd suggest just not calling it one going forward.

I'm actually really impressed how close you managed to get to those 10 minutes in the last run

i disagree with the idea that picking your team isn't against the spirit of a nuzlocke. in my opinion at least, one of the core idea's behind nuzlockes is the restrictions they place on team building, through deaths and the rule 'first encounter per route only'. despite that though, your challenge sidesteps the issue by instituting an entirely new restriction that fills the same purpose, increasing the difficulty of battles by severely limiting the possibilities for your team. You get a thumbs up from this random guy on youtube. Congratulations!

It's refreshing to finally see someone not stop at Johto.. virtually all Nuzlockers like to pretend the Kanto section doesn't exist (prolly 'cause they're scared of Red)

Most people who do nuzlockes only focus on what is considered the main game, aka the Champion being the final challenge. Everything after that is considered optional.

You got mileage out of Ariados, Ledian, and Unown? Absolute mad lad. Dunsparce, Ledian and Jumpluff came in clutch!

Gotta love how two of the most clutch pokemon in the series were two normal types. Dunsparce being the dark horse beast that it was, and Ursaring just Returning everything to whence it came was awesome. The normal type usually doesn't get that much hype, so that was a breath of fresh air.

Dude the first video you made was great but I am literally BLOWN AWAY at the creativity of different team uses, I am tired of using the same pokemon but this is super inspiring to see different teams and especially weak pokemon being put to use. Cannot wait to watch the rest of the series and your other videos. Subbed!

As a Canadian, I can confirm that everyday, after I wake up and take my coffee, I head immediately to the seal clubbing factory, a mile away from my home. We all meet there after getting some timmies. It's great and our employer pay us in loonies.
