I still have my old 2080 Ti and plan on a whole new system this year when the GPUs are easy enough to get. If I had a 4080, I would wait a couple of generations before upgrading but I know you are wanting to do it for the channel, which may help get more views if you could be among the first to drop some content on games performance comparisons. Convincing your wife might be hard depending on your finance situation. I guess it all depends on how much you are bringing in now too. Another question is which CPU do you have? Good Luck!

I have a 4080 Super FE and I'm eyeing the 5090 FE, first time I'll be getting a 90. I'll be going from 3440x1440 to 5120x2160 this year with the new gaming monitors coming out and I finally plan on getting into VR gaming too, so I want the best possible GPU for that. The 5090 should be the top card until around this time 2027 so I'll be set until then.

The raw performance is only about 30% more, that's not as much as going from the RTX 3090 to the RTX 4090. So I'm in doubt whether I'm going to replace my RTX 4090 for the RTX 5090. Maybe better to buy the RTX 6090. I also didn't replace my 7800X3D for the 9800X3D.

If you got a 4090 like I did day one you are sitting pretty high up. The generational performance uplift Nvidia made over the RTX 30 series high end was insane, up to double and while consuming considerably less power too. The RTX 5000 is not even close unfortunately and thats not really that big of a surprise considering there was no massive node advantage this time around while consuming more power. Now I'm in the same boat. The only reason I'd want to get a 5090 would be for the channel and I'd still keep my 4090 of course. I still don't know if I will or not but were it not for that I wouldn't bother. I don't have much interest in the 4X FG as I wouldnt turn it on unless I have 60 minimum anyway and I can play any game at 60 fps but I dont have a 240hz 4K display to even benefit from 4X. 1X on a 4K oled TV is perfect. Factor in the price increase and the 5090 is a way harder sell than the 4090 was which is one of the best Nvidia gaming GPU's imo.

nVidia has been doing 20 percent ACTUAL performance upgrades every generation. I pretty much buy the even number generations for my desktop and odd numbers for my laptop. Went from 2080 Ti to 4090. I'll wait for the 6090 like you. May upgrade the 3060 laptop to a 5070 depending on the price and if I can get enough wattage for a decent price (generally stay at around $1500 on the laptop). My gripe is the ridiculous over-hype of DLSS. Turn it on and it makes everything look so much worse. If you are getting crappy performance and need frames, turn it on, but the quality will suffer. Going up to 4X? Thats nuts.

If it wasn't for that though and I was gaming only I don't really see a big reason especially since I primarily game on a 3440 X 1440 and 4090 is overkill for most games. Ya, no reason to. I have a 7900xtx myself. It'll be another generation before there's a more legitimate reason to upgrade anything. It's always a bit temting anyway 😂. But I'll hold off. And if you care about picture quality you can clearly see all the sideeffects and feel the higher input. he compares the latency vs low native fps, which is not fair. Typically the latency would be way lower with these high fps. It is a mess on a high end card... paying for less optimization in future (because of this AI stuff). In 2025 we should be able to get true 4k 60 (+) with all these new technologies. And we need new engines.

One thing to remember is that frame generation isn't "free". Its quality varies wildly from game to game - sometimes being great but other times being a horrible mess of ghosting and artifacting. And these issues are just with SINGLE frame gen. Personally, I wouldn't use multi frame gen to justify paying 4000 aussie dollars for a GPU, purely because the technology isn't reliable and consistent enough to deliver on Nvidia's far-fetched claims.

Actually, they were able to keep latency around 55 MS, which is phenomenal for a single player game. Add to the fact that that’s with full path tracing enabled. Hardware does not exist yet that would be able to produce full path tracing lighting at native.. that’s probably 10 years away if it ever happens . That requires an enormous amount of processing and compute power.

I mean, that’s totally fine if you want to play at bottom tier performance sub 60 FPS, some of the graphically intense games 30 FPS. But there’s a buyer for every price point. Some people like to play on a 360 Hz OLED gaming monitor pushing 360 FPS with a 5090 class card. They also like playing single player games with Settings cranked to ultra with full ray, tracing and path tracing enabled. hardware that can do that cost a lot of money so.. it’s all on what matters to you.

Me too. I wanted to upgrade from my 5800x3d 308012gb rig for Flight Sim 2024 but when i saw the prices i said screw it and bought a PS5 Pro , a PSVR 2 and a Logitech G923 Wheel and i'm goddamn happy i did. No that i expected the 5090 to be cheap but this is just ridiculous. I'm also not a big fan of frame generation as it just introduce too much input lag. The positive is that we're geared for GTA 6 . PS5 Pro will be the best place to play it at launch as it probably won't come out on PC for a couple of years.

I dont think I will upgrade from 4090 to 5090, at least not yet, maybe I wait for 6090 which will than be 70% faster. I game at 144z at 4k already with my 4090 in many games on my LG OLED G4. Some times I need to use DLSS and FG and this will also improve with new drivers soon, but these games are so poorly optimized UE5 blurry crap that you need FG to make it play 120fps ar 4k.... its so bad. About 2x,3x,4x FG, I tried lossless and works great but I cant run higher than 144hz/fps without tearing. So am I am stuck st 144hz until new TV in 4-5 years time and we have 240hz TVs. I dont use monitor. 144hz is greatly smooth enough for me as a causal gamer with no competitive gaming where very high refresh rates are optimal for such games. My gaming is Action RPG, Single player fps game, some sports and other 2D/3D platformers.

Thinking about it. I went 1080, 2080 Super, 3080 Ti and skipped 40XX because of price, scarcity and scalping - they're still hundreds over MSRP two years into the product cycle. I think Imma try to bag a £1969 5090 FE from Nvidia direct and if I miss out, I'll probably wait another year or so and watch the field because there won't be any OEM cards less than £2300-2400 in the real world. I just hope someone solves the FE waterblock conundrum with the three separate PCBs and connector cables :\ Probably a terrifying teardown :o

They didn't fudge them. The "native" result had reflex off. Daniel Owen did a video when the og frame gen came out. Reflex cuts the latency in Cyberpunk in half. No frame gen with no reflex has more latency than frame gen plus reflex latency.

I also have a 4090 and I don't even want a 5090 for a couple of different reasons. 1.The increased power draw, 125W more than the 4090 would turn my room into a sauna most of the year instead of just in the summer with the 4090. 2. I only game on a 4k 120Hz OLED TV. This means that MFG (multi frame gen) is mostly pointless as I want 60 "base" fps in most games and use FG to double that to 120 fps. 3. In my region the 5090 will actually cost ~35% more than what I paid for my 4090, so I can't even say that the price/performance ratio is better if the Nvidia benchmarks are correct. 4. No games so far have made me feel that I can't get the visual fidelity and performance I want when gaming.

I definitely agree with you buying an RTX 5090, let me tell you why, First of all, the technology in the future is going to be all focused-on OLED monitors, 4k especially with a minimum of 144hz+, so you would need to pair it with a GPU that is going to push those fps you need to enjoy the game, RTX 4080 and 4090 lacks in that area since it is made only for 4k60fps. Second, you should always consult with your family, and in this case your wife because she will tell you "You have gone mad" but it is an investment for your channel, and you be able to test all games and tell us its optimization and their HDR (which you are famous for). Trust me if I had the money, I would buy it, the future gaming is heavily focused on RT and PT, better to enjoy it on a 5090 over an older GPU then to play all over again in the future and don't get the first experience fun with it. Hope that made sense.

You are not losing anything my friend cause what they are not showing you is the pc latency when you are getting 240fps natively without dlss, latency is probably close to 0. So dlss 4.0 is amazing but still not better than getting raw computing power and getting real frames. For single player however this is insane.

Getting a 5090 founder's edition at MSRP is probably going to be very hard, and the third party versions are going to be so expensive. And what if the Founder's Edition has eventual heat problems or other issues long term? There is just too much risk involved at this point. The 4090 is proven and is really all anyone needs for games. Unless you want to push insane framerates with 2 or 3 specific games using path tracing in 4K, what is the point?

It depends. It’s clear they’re trying to move away from pure horsepower. If it’s all about AI in the future, then I actually see an opposing effect lmao. Less real performance improvements generation by generation with replacements of exclusive AI features that make games “run better”. If the trend continues, I don’t have good hopes for the 6000 series either tbh. I think a lot would need to change in the next two years for NVIDIA to change their ideologies. Jensen literally said that huge raster improvements is a waste now. It’s all about DLSS. And I just don’t see the casual audience rejecting DLSS 4 enough for NVIDIA to make that shift.

The focus on most videos is comparision/talk between 4090 and 5090.. Why? i would think the % of ppl actually doing that, or even contemplating that, is very low. Sure its interesting, but 90% of videos on 5000 series on that topic seems off too me. I guess its relevant for content creaters so its on their mind, so they make videos about it. More focus on the average viewer would be nice i think. Not sure what the average viewer is, but would think its not 4090 owners considering a 5090. Wish I had a 4080, still on a 1070. Prices are just crazy, I hope AMD comes out with some nice cards soon that don't cost an arm and a led. I manage to game at 4k with XeSS and FSR. More interested in the lower end cards these days just so I can play some games at 4k. I could afford any GPU on the market but it just isn't good value for money. Best not to trust Nvidia, AMD or Intel benchmarks. We really need to ignore them and wait for the real indi benchmarks.

Fom the specs sheets numbers/data, the RTX 5090 is the only RTX 5000 card that seems to get an actual real performance upgrade that will be felt without an fps counter opened and no DLSS of any kind (super resolution, frame gen etc). All the other RTX 5000 cards seem like a complete waste of time and money to even consider to upgrade to them if you have their RTX 4000 ancestor equivalent. If you have a 4090, its really really simple: the only upgrade on the market that exists for you is the 5090, its that simple.

Just stick with your 4080 and use frame gen x2. Why care about frame gen x4 if you only have a 144hz screen? You just need 72fps locked to get to 144fps with frame gen.

The rtx 5090 is even a bigger scam than a PS5 Pro..gaming is becoming less attractive to me personally. The raster performance gains in 5xxx series card's is not good you're paying more for a space heater that's power hungry

For me 7900xt that would be a great upgrade, thogh is probably going to cost 3000 here and the 5080 I suspect wont be as good as 4090 so probably good idea to wait and get a 6080 or an amd card that competes with the 4090 in raster for a very good price. the problem I see here is buying a card expecting those technologies to be great, they are for me, but is not objective. I cant imaging myself paying 4000 and go to cyberpunk and path tracing getting 20fps, I know is path tracing but thats a lot of money, not to mention the 600w. Man I think you should wait, but yo do you XD if you get it, please do some benchmarks with no RT just raster comparing it to the 4090 or do a video testing everything.

This is hilarious. They don't count the generated frames in "PC Latency", this is why the result doesn't change or is within the margin of error range. Nvidia has everyone fooled. Even with current Nvidia frame gen you 100% do feel input lag, with 2 more frames now generated its going to feel horrendous.

Motion compensated frame interpolation exists almost a decade in the Tv industry, so frame generation is nothing groundbreaking new. In fact nvidia has the tech for multi FG for sure during 40-series, they just can relax and sell the next series. The tech is for sure working for the 40 series but hey they have to sell this year a lot of cards. So its evident why multi FG is restricted to the 50-series. Its not a proper biz anymore.

Sind 4000 australische Dollar umgerechnet in Euro nicht an die 2300-2400 Euro? Hier in Deutschland wird der Preis der Founders Edition der RTX 5090 höchstwahrscheinlich genauso sein (ca. 2300 EURO) wenn ich die 19% Mehrwertsteuer mit draufrechne. Ich werde die 5000er Generation komplett überspringen da mir die 4090 wahrscheinlich noch ausreicht für die nächsten Jahre.

I don’t think that anyone cares about the fake frames, we care more about the artifacts and the latency. If the picture is clear during movement and the latency is good it’s a win….otherwise it’s a moo point..

I have a 4090 and honestly I was not impressed , I upgraded from a really old PC a 1080 set up to a 4k set up (mistake should of gone to 2k) but anyhow my 13 year old set up (gtx780 lol) performs better than my 4090 set up :( yes I went from 1080p to 4k but still was expecting better frames with such a gap in tech. My new set up has stutters and other issues , my old set up runs butter smooth

I got the 4090 and there is a lot of difference with the 4080 ; with the 4090 you have more consistent 120 fps at ultra settings ; 4080 is more a 60 fps at ultra. With the 4080 I wlll def upgrade to the 5090 you will see a massive jump

For your youtube channel you should focus on testing the dlss4 mfg, not necessarily the 5090 or 5080. Buy a 5070ti or 5070 and wait for 60 series for a real upgrade

Upgrading from a 4070 ti to 5080 play at 4k will sell the 4070ti and recoup around 45% of the cost maybe more of the 5080 will claim the 5080 for my business

@@12ozMousee very little? 4080 is around 36% faster vs 4070 Ti, which means 5080 will be around 56% percent vs 4070 Ti. And the MFG will massively boost ur fps. Owners of 4xxx series like me who've already used FG will 100000% enjoy MFG. I'm also on the same boat with 4070 Ti on 4K, the 5080 will be HUGE upgrade for my gaming experience.

4000 Australian dollars, and it makes no sense to take a luxury model (ASUS) of the top of the top as a reference, unless it is just an instrumental criticism. The entry that costs much less is already comfortably higher than PS5-Pro, the difference in price of the platform will not take you long to recover, unless you buy 2 games a year, in which case even a basic console would be too much of an expense. If you don't buy you pay the subscription, and you certainly don't have the flexibility of choice of the PC, much less the stores that give you games, and when I say give away it is give away, not lend by paying the subscription. It is always interesting to try to understand where rationality can go, when ideological convenience pushes elsewhere. Would you be satisfied with just looking at the price of a small car, without considering that it could consume more fuel (games) than a Ferrari (PC), and maybe you also pay for parking? (online game and subscription) Yes, it would be ridiculous not to consider it, and yet when making comparisons console users only want to look at the one-off cost of the small car. Who knows why...
