4070 is 550 here in Sweden but after taxes (possible the highest in the world? Not sure if anyone has higher than the 25% VAT we have) and unfavourable currency conversations it’s still almost twice what I paid for my 1070 some years ago. So I wouldn’t call it good still at 7500SEK.

"4070" at $600 is ridiculous given this level of rasterization is 3 years old. only the 4080/4090 are "new" and were not seen before, and even then, 4000 series is already a year old and should be at a discount, but nvidia thinks the price should remain the same until the next gen is available a few years later. technology depreciates quickly but nvidia doesn't seem to think so.

I’m almost sure they wanted to give us a 6GB 3060. I think that’s exactly what their plan was, specially since the laptop 3060 has 6GB. Then when AMD completely surprised them with massive vRAM, they just last-minute gave the 3060 double and went with that. It doesn’t make sense otherwise
@Seth22087
@Seth22087 Жыл бұрын
That is because nVidia didn't plan on giving us those lower tier high VRAM models. 4060Ti 16GB was response to backlash for 4060Ti 8GB, because at its price, 8GB was totally unacceptable. For 3060 I can't remember if it was something to do with making it more enticing to miners or just response to market. Like I am pretty sure original plan was 6GB, since due to how GPU is designed with memory bus it can do 6GB or 12GB, unlike RAM you are limited with how many memory chips you put on it and so you can go for base capacity or double. Like 8GB wouldn't be possible due to design of GPU. Hence why you then got oddities in lineup. And how can lower tier card beat higher tier once you need extra VRAM. Still same thing that happened between 3060 12GB and 3060Ti/3070 8GB or between 3070 and RX6700XT, where 3070 was fastest, but with asterisk, as long as 8GB of VRAM was enough... and I think history will repeat here with 12GB on 4070, not as quickly, but stage is set for history to repeat.

Nvidia started being super careful not to offer a GPU that has everything you might need for a fair price, like they did during Pascal, because their value was so extreme and games were not too demanding until recently, you could legit keep your 1060/1070 + FSR and have no need for a new GPU. Their current plan is to maximise profits, even if one person buys a 4070 for 600$, they will be satisfied they got away with it.

Unless you wanted to use all of it and get more performance out of your card... remember the 6 gig cards back then ended up having atleaste 1 to 2 gigs left of vram when playing most games? This is why 8 gigs of vram has been able to be around for so long because so many games have came out only needing more than 4 to 5 gigs of vram, it was somewhat rare for a game to use 6 gigs until like 2017 to 2018. I think 12 gigs of vram will be the new 6-8 gigs for a while... in other words, you will be fine for maybe more than 3-5 years until you might need a new graphics card and even then I doubt by then they will be optimizing for 10-12 gigs of vram in games and even still that's pretty normal.

When I last went to England the exchange rate was a little over 2 US dollars per pound. The pound sterling has just crawled back to $1.27 per pound after falling off a cliff since 2008. So not only are you in a country where inflation is worse than the USA and the Eurozone but your currency has also lost A LOT of value compared to the world's reserve currency. You have my condolences. In the early 90s I bought an 8 bit mono sound blaster card that was on sale as an open box for about $90+ tax. I also looked at buying 1 megabyte of ram for $40... Today I can buy an USB DAC that absolutely destroys equipment worth thousands in the 90s for a bit more than I paid for that SB card. Was gonna go for 7800 then saw reviews and thought 6800... Then AI cores and now again stuck. . . I have researched for two months already thanks to the bullshit Nvidia pulled....and now that I am exhausted I think a used 3090 is the absolute best thing for me. The only thing that holds it back in comparison to 4070 is frame gen. Now thanks to AMD you can do frame gen on 3090 too (I think...not sure though). So it ticks all the boxes. 1) Faster than 4070 and on par with 6800 2) Biggest VRAM 3) Can give 90% it's max performance at underclock to 250 watts 4) Has Dlss 1, 2, FSR and now frame gen . Just one thing. Fear of a mined card. But as I heard, a 10 days check warranty is enough to see if card is good or not. Basically if it works for 10 days under heavy load it will live it's life as a normal card is what I heard. . If you get 3090 in 500-600 dollars. I think it's the best card then.

between 4070 and 3060 the differences are: +same die size, but TSMC N4 vs Samsung 8nm. +30W more power delivery and cooling needed for 4070. -VRAM pricing took a nosedive. VRAM is now $2...$5/GB vs $6...$10/GB back then. So: ($24...$60 for 4070) vs ($72...$120 for 3060). The 4070's die alone costs ~$100 (simulated on a 300mm wafer with 85% yields, as reported). 3060's die can't cost less than $50. That neutralizes itself through VRAM savings. We are left with some $10...$20 for a better cooler and power delivery. If 3060 is profitable at 330, why wouldn't 4070 be at $350? or even $400 (and people would flock to get it)? but instead, they ask $600. Considering I don't have RTX4000 card, I also wondered if there is some scaling or, if it is completely linear. At least I think tensor cores were ones connected to DLSS, if memory serves.

The only CUDA based apps right now needing 16GB are the AI open source LLM apps and models. Plus AI image generation apps like Stable Diffusion. @@GB-zi6qr More than that. This is not entry level gfx cards (eg. rx7600 is only low level, since there are even lower cards) and absolutely not entry level gaming (any iGPU can do the job for that, depending on the genre you play). Gaming doesn't mean the newest AAA on ultra at the highest resolution. It never was. Don't buy the manufacturers and editors marketing or the elitist children speech. PC gaming is not dying, their juicy business is. Heck! CS2 or Baldur's Gate 3 don't even require what's considered "low end" to be comfortably playable. Plenty of retro or indie games are accessible even on an anemic RaspberryPi, an old smarphone or a 15 years old laptop. This is already several years of entertainment without upgrading or even getting a PC. You don't even need any form of 3D acceleration feature or more than a couple of FPS to play some games as intended. And even more important than that : you can entertain yourself on any computer without consuming any content at all, interactive or not. This is a full-featured tool, not a gaming console (and sometimes even on them they are ways). You can learn skills or be freely creative and filled with the same accomplishment if not more. If you really want to stay in the videogame theme, you can make fan-arts, fanfics, music covers/remixes, videos, etc. A lot of opensource games and community mods are seeking for contributions like translations, graphics and sounds. Of course you can try learning programming and all the jazz to create your own game, even in BASIC on an old programmable calculator. It can also be a physical game or even a controller since microcontrollers are very capable and dirt cheap nowadays. Whatever fuels you.

As always, these updates and reviews are amazing in helping me decide what to buy and not buy. While I always enjoy that every reviewer says to look at multiple venues to coalesce data and review styles to help me decide, I am quite pleased to get simple , raw, explicit data that shows essential information both on summary and in varied amd/nvidia sponsored titles. I am unhappy that there are such high premiums elsewhere in the world for computer parts. That isn't fair. I am still shocked by how much more Australian GPUs are compared to US GPUs Imma stay with my 3070ti and my wife with her 3080ti and just knock down settings until an rtx 6000 or and competitor arrives. Honestly, with how UE5 games are going, demanding upscaling like Remnant 2, we see that we would need Amd , Nvidia, and Intel to do some major Wizardry in rasterization before that. When a 4090 @ 4k can't run some current gen at 60fps smoothly and requires upscaling, the hardware is relying on software tricks rather than hardware performance . We could chalk it up to bad optimization in the dev side or something, maybe, but it raises an eyebrow. I think Steve said, one time, that ultra settings are never really necessary and just high is fine, even medium at points, but for the sake of benchmarks, they hammer GPU's at high settings and that's great. I've given more leeway with my gpu settings wise and had no noticeable difference in image quality , especially at 1440p or 4k. Games look really good at multiple resolutions.

@@BarAlexC We can't really scold AMD for the naming without also scolding Nvidia. The 4080 is the 4070ti and so on and so forth. So it's back to the good ol' "What's the frames per dollar again?". As for the "progress" part... it is highly unusual that cards gets price-dumped that extensively that early. It only happened because the crypto plague managed to off itself right at the same time inflation started kicking in hard and people slammed their wallets shut at the same time AMD was sitting on an absolute pile of over supply. In "normal times" we only see fire-sale prices like that just prior to next gen launch. If you disregard the naming, and just look at the 6800XT and 7800XT from a price-to-performance perspective gen-on-gen then it's a 27% generational gain nominally (counting the 7800XT as 105% the performance of the 6800XT) which is a fairly typical generational gain. However... if you adjust for inflation (setting the 6800XT to $736 MSRP) then it's a 35% generational gain, which isn't bad.

@@viralityac I just don't agree with how many people keep recommending 1440p. I enjoy the extra frames and lower input latency. Don't want less knowledgeable people to think 1080p is useless trash when it could be the perfect pick for them.

249 (8GB)/299 (16GB) and 399 would make me excited. Both of them have a long way to go, before I'd even consider them a viable option... I think 30% is a good spacing between a 50 Ti and 60 class card.

Nothing to do with not buying them. Plenty of people bought 4000 series. It's about competition. Whenever 1 company lags behind the market leader jacks up the prices. AMD were late to the party with their mid gen so Nvidia had no competition. Competition has arrived so prices come down.

Hey I just watched your 7800 xt review and I'm just confused. How come 7800 xt is on pair with 6950 xt in some games and in other games is way behing. Is it because of better memory bandwidth that some games can utilize it and how this will matter in future games. I want upgrade my 6700 xt and I was thinking about 7800 xt or 6950 xt as there are some good deals especially for used 6950 xt.

AMD certainly makes blunders too. But holy crap...Nvidia spec choices and prices are so bad and yet so many people reward them with purchases still because of goofy mind share. People need to make a decision based off value all the time and not off mind share and marketing ploy features. This applies to both AMD and Nividia. If people keep buying $600 4070s and $1200 4080s and $400 8GB cards...then they deserve to continue getting ripped off.

@@mastroiteki'm in a similar boat. I bought a brand new 3080ti with a huge discount like two months before the announcement of the 40 series and I see no advantage of this new generation. At least based on the deal that I got for it. Hopefully in terms of both price and performance, we will see a similar scenario with the 5000 series as the one when the 1000 series came out.

Building my first computer in years. By the time I got done picking out a processor and then the motherboard I was about sick of looking. But I should’ve looked a little harder on the graphics card. Of course I ordered a 4060 TI 16 GB and you can get a 4070 for the same price in a different brand. I guess I can send it back. in the US I paid 550 for it from Nuway. MSI gaming X4060 TI. They’re showing a gigabyte 4070 for the same price

Price is £80 difference here im seriously torn. I do some AI training with SD and the extra VRAM of the 4060ti actually would make it quicker (by a far bit also). However the 4070 is just better for everything else. If the AI training performance were the same it would be a no brainer paying the extra £80. But it is an issue so meh... i dono. grrrr why cant the 4070 have a 16gb variant :(. If the 4060 16gb were to be £80 cheaper also that would be a no brainer and i would probably get that. Stuck between 4070 not having as much vram and the 4060 being to expensive. Would love to see these charts inc DLSS 2 and DLSS 3 at balance/high quality at 4k. Realistically ill be playing on my 4k tv every now and then with a controller, i expect to be using DLSS in those situations. When sitting at my monitor the 1440p without is enough to go off.

I would avoid the 4070's with just one 1x8 pin which are usually the ones $50 off. The transient spikes are really brutal on power supplies when you push the cards. There's just not enough wattage on tap. You need two 8 pins to feed those spikes! If you do buy one buy a 2x8pin to 1x8pin adapter. I found this out the hard way with many tripped breakers 😹
@Andytlp
@Andytlp Жыл бұрын
Well yeah the spikes are gonna be in 350w maybe for a few milliseconds. If your psu or breaker cant handle that its weird.
@iancurrie8844

You’re not making sense. Two cables wouldn’t prevent anything. Two 8-pin cables are usually pigtailed off the same single run of cable. None of this has anything to do with a breaker going off. That’s nonsense. Does it make sense to you to have a single run of cable from the power supply pig tailed into two connectors, then into a two connector adapter which then brings it back into one connector make any sense to you? Do you think that does anything? Really?

It's just so stupid. The sixty class should have had 12GB from the start, with no need for a 16GB model and the 70 class cards should have had 16GB. Nevermind the the absurd cost, the PCie lane config (60 class) and the crippled memory bus.

They can cut price as much as they want, I am done with Nvidia. Over the past +15 years, I got only Nvidia cards. My EVGA GTX1080ti will go into my brother in law PC, I bought a 7800XT Nitro+ as I do play only in 1440p and don't care about ray tracing. I switched to AMD CPU's 5 years ago because of Intel policy to change motherboard platform every single year. Very happy with AMD CPU. I see no reason to go back to nvidia. As a customer, I just don't want to give my cash to this company anymore.
