Nvidia robotics is about building omniverse virtual twin to train robots much faster than what could be done in real world. Nvidia's approach is not to build it's own robot (except for experience building) but to prepare a platform (server and on the edge) that will support the companies that wants to develop the robots. In this way, Nvidia will be able to cover a much larger market than Tesla who wants to do all on it's own. It reminds me the Microsoft open ended approach versus Apple closed environment in the 1985-2000 period. Nvidia developing a robotics ecosystem versus Tesla closed vertical integration.

We call robots "robot" because we don't want them to behave like humans, we want them to work like machines. The fact that big investors are backing humanoid robots now isn't because 'humanoid' is intrinsically good, but because that's the money-making proposition: making a machine that fits in paying holes currently occupied by very large numbers of not-very-well-paid humans. As soon as replacement is far enough advanced, expect optimisation to remove 'humanoid' features. Humans should campaign for 'human reservations' to prevent being optimised away. We won't do it: mobile machines are shiny.

Can't really compare the two. Groot is an omniverse that allows training for humanoid robots using digital twins whereas Tesla uses its own model and trains its robots using real-world data. We never really had something like Groot before. Nvidia wants to help other companies build robots and AI. Nvidia already has a large market share over the GPU market which is essential for generating tokens for AI. Tesla is probably using Nvidia's GPUs and APIs to create the robot and its AI. Nvidia wants to be the gold mine for AI and hand the pickaxes to companies to mine the "AI Gold Rush". Jensen Huang, the CEO of Nvidia, said this himself at the GTC. In reality, Nvidia is in charge of the excavation site and Tesla is just a miner.

Because Boston doesn't have much. I can't think of anything Boston has that would be useful for Tesla... Nvidia won't make robots as they're just opening up for other's. Boston doesn't have the AI training Tesla needs. It uses a bunch of sensors that is already redundant. They don't use AI, they don't use actuators that can be mass produced... they have nothing.

I think in some sense it's smart of Tesla to avoid dependency on "the Nvidia Monopoly" -- but especially short term, Nvidia (and partners) will have an enormous advantage due to their scale, services and singular focus. In other words, bots using the Nvidia stack will likely be "better", but Nvidia has not always treated their their downstream partners well (EVGA being one of many), so I'd be nervous about vendor lock-in.

That’s the biggest strength the Tesla bot has, it is design to be mass produced and most of its parts already are mass produced for the cars. They can get to lower price sooner, instead of 30k Tesla could be at 15k in price. The competition put together won’t be at Tesla scale of production for years.

We are in uncharted territory.. it’s like how the WWW was in the early 90s, we knew it has potential, but how it’s has changed our lives was unprecedented. Same with ai robotics and neuralink.. virtual worlds, avatars and possibly defence forces which wil be entire armies of robots ck trolled by a few generals? Using neuralink. Prob starships will be used to immediately transport robot armies, via space within 30 mins anywhere on earth. No, they've designed their own SoC chip which is produced by TSMC. It is most likely a 7nm chip, designed by ex-AMD employees recruited by Tesla. It probably shares some protocols/architecture characteristics with their Dojo D1 server chips. In that case it's not exactly a GPU, but the architecture is likely optimized for AI inference. I'm quite sure they'll train on the Dojo chips, and use the onboard SoC for inference.
