Hey everyone! On a plane to PAX East right now. Say 'hi' if you see us there. We'll visit the hardware vendors early in the show. The GTX 1080 Ti review video, article, and tear-down (going live later today) mean that we pushed up until about 50 minutes before needing to wake up for a flight. We're visiting overclocking separately. Noise, if you want some numbers, is mostly comparable to the 1080 FE noise levels. Not much difference there. We'll put some numbers to it after this event and the next one. Article here: www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/2830-nvidia-gtx-1080-ti-fe-review-and-game-benchmarks

Enjoy the PAX trip. I'm mildly surprised about the price drop, but where I'm actually surprised is the performance gains being that high. Don't recall what the 980 vs Ti was but maybe you should have included a 980 (non-Ti) to compare previous gains in the last generation. 30%+ looks to be decent but not worth 200 usd if coming from a regular 1080. Clearly this is Nvidia saying "your move AMD."

@@LSRGaming Just bought three of Powercolors highest version of the 6600xt Red Devil for $140,140 and $150 this last week. Only wanted 1 of them to replace my 1080ti in the Media PC as I will need HDMI 2.1 soon for 4k / 120hz / VRR. Ended up buying 3 and will sell off some 1070's and a 1080 to recoup cost. Faster than a 1080ti in most situations but 5yrs newer, less power and modern features like resizeable bar SAM, FSR and even ray tracing although not great on RDNA2. But the 1080ti will stay in my son's 5600x/b450/32gb/1440p system as Jedi Fallen Order and Trains Sim 2 actually do better on the 1080ti with it's 16x/Gen3 slot spec vs the reduced speed of 6600xt 8x speed at Gen 3. Stupid of them to make this budget minded card 8x and require people to have newer nicer hardware to utilize it fully. The 6700xt wouldn't be held back on Gen3 with it's 16x interface but they make the cheaper 6600xt with 8x require a newer motherboard.

Matthew Ducote Jay is still amateurish, but gamer Nexus? they really have stepped up their technological depth on their reviews and now they are in pair with top reviewers like modders Inc, tweaktown, etc. I got nothing against the more simple approach most other reviewers use, I know most people will really consume that type of content instead of the more tech aware ones, but for enthusiasts like me, they really can't cut it.

/AMD is the most toxic place on reddit. All they can talk about is "look AMD is so much better and if you don't think so you're the devil itself" while you go on other subreddits like nvidia or intel people don't give a shit. Also the amount of posts about a consspiracy against AMD is astonishing. They clearly don't have fresh air in their basement. Also those tard think that people with intel cpus didn't want ryzen to succeed. Like sure man we don't want a 8/16 cpu at a cheap price ... fucktard not our fault it overclocks like shit. what i'm interested in is gen2 of ryzen. i'm pretty sure they will be king if intel doesn't do some magic

Thanks for the review and extra effort. I'm hoping to see more benchmarks for VR, since this card is very relevant to performance issues in that area. Almost no-one has done a VR test. GameSpot did a test with SteamVR and found the 1080 ti to be almost 50% faster than a gtx 1080. That is huge and is especially relevant to me. I play Elite Dangerous in VR with a gtx 1080. I set things to Ultra (but turn off antialiasing and blur) and set hmd quality to 1.5 (supersampling for the VR headset). When I'm playing in this mode, performance suffers when I'm on planets or around certain stations. So performance of the gtx 1080 ti is particularly important to me. I have 32 GB of DDR4 and an i7 6820hk. Tonight I will try overclocking the gtx 1080 (I have the evga SC version) and see if I can improve it enough, but I really doubt it.

7 жыл бұрын
If playing at 4k your cpu won't bottleneck much at all. 1440p it will bottleneck it a fair bit and at 1080p it will be a waste as a big bottleneck will occur.
@ViolentMLG
@ViolentMLG 7 жыл бұрын
As you upscale the resolution the load on the CPU decreases, you will be fine at 1440P and 4K. Food for thought - the 3770 should actually be on par/outperform the new RYZEN lineup in gaming (only gaming) due to the lack of architectural support for RYZEN right now, its seeing huge dips in performance and finding its-self on par with I5 6600K's and 2600K's, so if people are showcasing ryzen as a 4K ready CPU, generally speaking, the 3770 should see similar numbers, given more of a CPU load of-course, but totally smooth gameplay.
@DrearierSpider1
@DrearierSpider1 7 жыл бұрын
The biggest factor with CPU limitations in games is how high of a frame rate you're trying to push. Most of the older Intel CPU's can hit 60 fps in modern games without many issues (though there are some exceptions). It's getting to those higher 100+ fps where they start to see issues depending on architecture. Your 1080Ti will bottleneck at 4k in most instances before your CPU, and you might even need to turn down a couple settings like shadows to hit a constant 60 fps in the more demanding titles.

Do you guys think that the Classified or perhaps Gigabyte's custom version of this new card will be able to 4k/60 every major title out there? I've got a 980ti comfortably gaming at 1440p right now but looking to go to 4K this year if I can find a single card solution that has the power to push everything at that res at 60+ fps. I'm afraid that it won't be until next gen that we finally get the GPU horsepower to pull this off. Ideally, I'd like a 10fps buffer capability on the card to ensure it can brute force a locked 60fps or even 75+ fps on less visually demanding titles. My other option is to simply add another 980ti to my setup and risk dealing with the extra heat output (not really a problem since I have a custom loop) and potential lack of SLI support or poor SLI scaling.

Damn, I was hoping that running a 1080ti in SLI would be able to reach 4k 144hz, ready for when the Asus PG27UQ drops, but it doesnt look like that will be the case. Guess I'll just buy a 2nd 1080 FE and run them in SLI and W/C and play at 60fps stable whilst waiting for the 1180 to drop later in the year.

173 fps on doom 1440p at ultra is just insane, that game looks so good and feels so smooth at that frame rate to the point where you could easily go 4k and change a couple settings from ultra to very high and run at 120fps.

So, one thing Id like to point out, is that right at the end here you stated that its a good card, it just needs some tweaks to reach its full potential. Huh, interesting how you didnt mention that at all in your followup to your Ryzen review, considering there _will_ be tweaks done by third parties, much like this card, to enable it to reach its full potential. Food for thought.

Ugh, I just sold my 2x EVGA 980 Ti Hybrids today to purchase a 1080 Ti. I was able to snag a Gigabyte 1080Ti Founder's Edition Preorder on Newegg, but after seeing this video, I'm highly debating cancelling it and waiting for aftermarket cooled cards... I'm impatient, but it's probably worth the 1-2 week wait.

Pretty beastly card. I still hope that AMD jumps back in the game with Vega though. Would be nice to see a head to head battle going back and forth between the AMD and nVidia for King title :P .

Thank you competition for giving us better pricing. Still can't afford it, but It's not the ~$900-1000 that was speculated. The odd VRAM amount is kind of triggering my OCD though.

Why include 1080P in the benchmarks? Would that not have a CPU bottleneck that could vary depending on what's in the viewers system? I like the new testing schema. I am concerned that when you pointed out the GPU bottleneck in the Ryzen review, you get the opposite here. GN did a great job on pointing out why the CPU reviews were being done wrong, and I don't disagree with you. When I see that same methodology in the GPU reviews that was reported as being an incorrect way of doing things for CPU reviews, I see someone trying to have their cake and eat it too. Should GPU testing not have an inverse relationship to CPU test? Keep up the good work, I can't wait to see more testing.

Kyle Michot If your playing at 1080p then don't buy this card. 1070 does both 1080p @ 1440p with ease at now under half the price.

I'm still running on two 970s. They perform similarly to a single 980Ti (except in games that don't support SLI) but I'm held back by the VRAM. I can run most games above 60fps with a few settings tweaked at 1440P but I can't run Ultra textures in the latest games. I'm kinda tempted by the 1080Ti (when AIB cards are released anyway) but I have the feeling that following Vega, Nvidia will be forced to counter with an even stronger 1100 series.
