That 2gb GTX 960 is the exact same card that I was using for about 10 years. I just upgraded it though because the lack of GPU memory made it difficult to play Hogwarts, and Detroit: Become Human, and most definitely KSP 2. My specs for now: CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 3.2ghz (turbo 3.6ghz) RAM: 16gb (2x8gb) GPU: Nvidia GTX 970 4gb (Formerly GIGABYTE GTX 960 2gb) PSU; Thermaltake 650w... (at least 600w, I don't remember specifically.)

The GTX 960 is nvidias last windows xp supported gpu. It makes for an unstoppable Retro gaming gpu.

My first GPU way back in 2015. The start of something glorious. I actually still have it and I refuse to sell it or let it go even though all of that first build is pretty much gone. I actually have the 4Gb version from MSI the Twin Frozer. It came with a free copy of The Witcher 3!

I was pretty confident about this video as I am still going with a GTX 960 for my main machine, though after checking I did notice that I actually have 4 GBs of memory so that probably helps a bit. I probably would have upgraded to something newer if it wasn't for the GPU shortage driving prices waaaay up. I basically total upgraded my machine around 18 months ago.

I paired a 960 4gb, i5 4670k, 16gb 1600mhz RAM and new SSD with a 24" native 1366×768 monitor and I was actually surprised how well the old dogs hunted. Dont forget, most of the 960s are fantastic overclockers. Slap some new thermal paste on it and overclock the Core and Memory to your hearts desire. Nothing wrong with an older card if it plays the games you play at the resolution you like to play at. I for 1 could play and compute @ 1366×768 native with no complaints and I normally play at 1440p.

@@sohailkabir8030 literally found it at a pawn shop for like $25 it claims it's is 1366×768 native. I tried running it in 1080p and it didn't scale properly. It is a Samsung I believe.

You speak very lowly of the 960 when in reality, although in low settings, it offers a very playable experience in all titles, and it being very cheap nowadays that's more than enough for a lot of people. Also, of course 1080p and 768p it will look worse on a 1440p display, but on a native 1080p it's not so bad.

Built a FX 8350 and 960 in 2015- it’s now in the garage and work great still. windows XP and a lot of retro games. When friends and family come over - it gets used a lot. Best PC purchase I’ve ever made based off of longevity and use.

Bought a GTX 970 few days ago for my 'ultimate' Win XP build. Tested it in main computer and latest drivers worked well. But yeah, there was some 'strangeness' with 900 series. 960 has supported XP drivers while 970 and above don't. Easily fixable though.

I've played RDR2 on 900p with Low settings and medium/high textures on a 960 2GB It was giving me 30+ FPS all the time the game was very playable and graphics were also not looking that bad

On the cpu fx 8350, using a gforce gtx 960 WILL STREAM IN 4K as long as the monitor or tv is hooked up. The settings changes into the UHD list.

So glad I've still got the 4GB EVGA GTX 960 SSC for that VRAM advantage with older games, where the extra 2GB of VRAM costed as much (with P&P) as the optional extra full metal backplate of the backplate-less 2GB version, while also coming with the backplate as standard as a bonus. It's great for maxing out Windows XP/8.1(+Classic Shell Start) dual boot retro builds without having to depend on funky modded drivers.

P. S. Also the last mid-range x60 card to still support SLI, if you're into that sort of thing, for those few titles that'll actually benefit from it, for that "just because it looks awesome in the case, especially with the light up EVGA hard SLI bridge" factor, rather than for practicality, where a significantly more powerful single 1080 would otherwise make more sense.

P. P. S. The GM206 GPU of the 960 was also the first from nVidia to support HDCP 2.2, putting it ahead of the likes of even the Maxwell based Titan-X of the time, at least in that regard.

this GPU it's the sweetspot for any retrogamer: - Driver Support for WinXP, Win Vista, Win7, Win8, Win10, Win11... yea, all native support, which is insane. - Completely overpowered for any WinXP, Win Vista, and Win 7 era Game. If it was a game previous to 2015, it will run ultra settings no problem, even 2gb version - Analog output for CRT and/or analog connector (a.k.a. VGA) display. despite how much of a beast it is, it is a little bit overpowered for a Windows XP retrogaming build. For a multi-OS scenario i would aim for a GTX 960 2gb (could also aim for a GTX750 or something in that range). Pair it with a Phenom II 945 c3 (95w and complete beast) with 8gb DDR3 1333mhz (only 4gb usable in XP x32, but i would have a triple boot Win XP x32sp3 + win XP x64 sp3 + Win 7 x64 sp1). That hard should be an absolute beast for anything on a 2003/2012 era of games, while still having a reasonable performance for 2010/2015 games no problems. as for the GTX960, the 4gb version is an extremely good GPU to use with an Fx8320e/Fx6350 or an i5 3470 w/16gb of DDR3 for kind-of modern non-competitive gaming. Pairing it with an i7 3770k or an Fx8350, or a DDR4 platform (except extreme budget cpus) wouln't add much performance to the table. 2gb version falls short for current vram demands so i would certainly aim for the 4gb version. It is expected to perform pretty much like a 1050ti, give or take

Bought a used PC with a GTX960. I got full system shutdown on ever ego shooter. Escape from Tarkov in Raids randomly. When i enter the hideout after 5 seconds system shutdown. Same on Counterstrike 2. Even in League of Legends i get sometimes full system shutdown.

So I got a GTX 960 4GB and a i7-4790 3.60GHz, I don't have the kind of money atm to really upgrade to anything insanely high rn but I really wanna play two games for which the recomandations say I need atleast a GTX 1060. And those two games are Resident Evil Village and the Resident Evil 4 Remake. Is it possible to play these two games with a 960 and to get decent fps?

Yes, it works as long as you find compatible drivers for your desired Windows OS choice, be it 10 or 11. It does work on older versions of Windows or Linux, with the aproppiate drivers. Older PCI-e videocards can work with newer PCI-e motherboards. But sometimes newer PCI-e videocards cannot work with older motherboards. Such things happen due to bad PCI-e backwards compatibility implementation from the UEFI-bios on the motherboard, requiring a safestrap method to display graphics, while processing 3D tasks.

I'm gonna go with YES. It has much more raw power that the AMD APUs. That being said, those APUs are pretty slick if you don't have room for a dedicated GPU.

@@adminmovie Used, slightly more, but it still beat the 4/580, since it has a longer gaming life. Considering AMD pitted the RX 4/580 against the 970/80, 1070 (the proper upgrade from 970/80), and 2x4/580 against 1x1080.

@@AlfaPro1337 Thats not true at all. 580's, on average, perform better now than they did when they launched. They have a great physical longevity. And so many people are moving to linux, regardless what people want to say, that the 580 will continue to be relevant long after the 1070 is a shelf only piece. I used to sing the praises of NVidia, they simply dont deserve it any longer.

@@kborak I would say, it depends on the apps and games, had both of them (for some pc builds, i made) and in some the 1070 was much better performing, than the 580 8gb i had. In some they both seemed to have similar performance (maybe a cpu bottleneck, idk, tested them with a R5 3600X). But getting an RX 580 8GB for around 70 $/€/£ isn't actually a bad idea for a cheap build for gaming or something similar. They are both still great performing cards (even though the GTX 1070 should be sold for less nowadays, than what people want to sell them for, then it would be really worth it, to look for one).
