Hey everyone, what are your thoughts on this change? I should also point out that Boosteroid and AirGPU (among others) are meant to be good GFN alternatives, although I havent personally tested them out... yet 🙂
@quandrixtwincaster5738
@quandrixtwincaster5738 2 ай бұрын
Really depends where you live and how close you are to their data centres. Where I live in Canada, Boosteroid just doesn't perform well at all. Amazon Luna is just poor quality overall, with a model I don't enjoy. And Xcloud via Game Pass Ultimate has no way to pay for priority access to cloud gaming, so there are many times where you'll be waiting a long time for sessions, and on top of that the service isn't where it needs to be as it's still in beta. GFN really had it in the bag. Incredibly disappointing for them to do this.

I'm honestly not that surprised cuz I'm getting close to an actual 4080 performance with the ultimate tier. So spending $200/yr and getting the performance close to a $2500 4080 PC, that's not counting the monitor and the energy bill, is just a little too good to be true.

Boosteroid for third person games like world of warcraft gta v red dead redemption 2 does just fine! However way behind inferior compared to geforce now with fast paced games like cs2 fortnite cod warzone with things like input delay lag server stability

putting a limit on a monthly subscription is just fucking stupid. even worse is if you manage to even hit the 100 hour limit say 2 weeks in they will automatically drop you to free tier even if you still have days left in the sub you paid for. they should just drop memberships all together at this point

Hopefully they might maybe in the future slightly increase the max hour limit per month! Who knows? By some 10-15 hours. Its main purpose is to minimize server overload with too many people on at the same time

Yes fingers crossed :) Clearly the service is quite in-demand at the moment, so I can kinda see why NVIDIA have done this - but it's still frustrating. Even 120 hours would be better IMO.

This change definitely feels super bad. My assumption is that Geforce NOW has continued to grow in popularity over the last couple of years and they either can't or don't want to (probably the ladder) add on more server power to support the growing userbase, so this is their solution. A dumb solution at that, I guess I'll just stay subbed to ultimate so I can not get these changes till 2026
@TechOverwrite
@TechOverwrite 2 ай бұрын
Yes I agree all round, and it probably is just because they grew too much. I'm actually half hoping that they have another 50% off sale before the end of the year - I wouldn't mind having Ultimate throughout 2025 to be honest.
@TheHipisterDeer
@TheHipisterDeer 8 күн бұрын
There is literally no reason for them to have a monthly cap when cheaper streaming services like boosteroid exist for cheaper, it's not like they are hurting for money. So basically I'll continue to use it until the end of 2025, and then after that hopefully I'll have enough money to actually buy a PC with a 4080 or better graphics card before 2025 is over.

Genuine question: how do people manage to play beyond 100h a month? Considering you are fulltime employed or studying, minding daily chores or duties and a life besides gaming, how could anyone manage to get more than 100h of playtime a month besides professionals like streamers, youtubers, etc.?
@TechOverwrite
@TechOverwrite 2 ай бұрын
A fair question. Before I had children, I worked full time (40h a week) but still played 2-3 hours of games a night. On weekends this might then rise to 3-4 hours. That worked out to around 100h a week. And I would have found a 100h cap progressively more stressful as the month went on, to be honest.

22 working days * 3 = 66 hours, and then 8-9 weekend days * 4 = 36. 66 + 36 = 102 hours. So it is possible with 'just' 3-4 hours a day... and that's not forgetting that sometimes people might play a LOT more than 4 hours on a weekend. It is still a fair amount though, I appreciate that.

Good question, the FAQ is a little vague, saying: "existing GeForce NOW paid members, as of December 31, 2024, will continue to enjoy unlimited playtime until their first billing cycle on or after January 1, 2026, as long as your premium membership remains uninterrupted and in good standing. 6-month members will reset on the same day each month as their billing date, (e.g. February 4 billing date will reset on March 4, April 4 and so on). " Maybe try posting in the GFN subreddit or the forums, they might know more. I always thought that *any* paying customer would carry on with unlimited in 2025, but that 6-month point confuses me.

They've been making this platform worse since its inception. If only 6% of gamers use over 100 hours, why did they need to make the change?
@markuskaeding
@markuskaeding 2 ай бұрын
@ serious question? 6% of paying users need probably half of the performance of the service because they are just gaming all day long. I did that too when I was younger but this Plattform is not build for it and obviously just not profitable. So if 94 people still use it and pay and you have the performance for another 94 by limiting the 6 guys who are just playing video games in their lives (no judgement) you do exactly what they do. Again performance and resources are not limitless and if you can double the amount of users for the same money you double the profit. The stupid part is that people show the middlfinger by building themselves a new pc with new NVIDIA graphic cards. :D which makes NVIDIA even more money. 😅 The price is ridiculously low for a comparable performance with your own PC. So I genuinely do not get the complaining about it. I can play 2-3 years for the price of a ps5 on much better performance.
@TechOverwrite
@TechOverwrite 2 ай бұрын
Thanks for the detailed comment/reply 🙂 I actually meant, I doubt whether it is just 6% of users. I think it is more. If it was just 6%, surely this change is not going to save NVIDIA much money? But yes, I do agree with the gist of your comment that cloud gaming isn't really for more hardcore gamers. It is meant for casual gaming. In some ways it is good that NVIDIA/GFN are now honest about that (with this new cap), but I dislike that it applies even to the expensive Ultimate tier. Maybe 150 hours on Ultimate would have been better?
