did you try setting pcie version to 4.0 in bios? if your card and your mobo are both pcie 5.0 and your riser is only 4.0 you might have issues. my guess is that pcie 5.0 riser cables will be super expensive

Hi! Great video! I was wondering if you've explored the difference between undervolting and setting a power limit percentage. In der8auer's video on the 4090, he found that limiting the power limit to 60% only resulted in about a 10% performance drop. Looking at your charts, it seems you're seeing a 39% decrease in power consumption with a 12% reduction in performance when undervolting to 2.3GHz. It would be interesting to compare how these two approaches stack up, as the 4090 seemed to perform better with just a power limit adjustment versus undervolting. What are your thoughts?

Its funny that Anti Aliasing has always been the biggest visual improvement in games since day 1 and that it still holds true in 2025. I remember the setting in 640x480 games being huge and I still up the AA in every game as stray pixels ruin the presentation. Nice to see

Thank you for testing undervolting, watched a lot of reviews and I think you're only one how did it. Would love to see even more testing related to power. How is undervolting vs power limit, how it performs vs 4090 when power limited at different limits 150w/200w/300w/400w, how performance scales with power in productivity applications. Personally I'm using 4090 for blender with 40% power limit (180w) and scaling is amazing, I'm getting ~85% of performance while card is cool and quiet. (when unlimited blender uses around 280w) Now I wonder, if I upgrade to 5090 and apply same power limit, will it perform exactly the same like 4090? or maybe even worse? do I need to increase by 35% to get promised 35% speedup in blender?

Nobody else goes so deep into undervolting and power efficiency of PC hardware. I never knew that just by looking at the stock voltage vs frequency graph you could derive the point of diminishing returns on increased power.

My entire setup, not just my PC, was 2600 eur. 7800x3D, 4080, X670E-A, 32GB 6k30, 5TB NVME, AX1600i, AIO, H6 Flow case. 32" 1440p 180hz monitor. G502 LS mouse, K100 keeb. Sennheiser HD58x headphones with Fiio K3 DAC/AMP. It's a very good PC and setup. One gaming graphics card being the same price or more is just sad and pathetic. Fuck Nvidia!

Only LTT explained that blackwell architecture is changed massively (flip metering, neural rendering etc.) so some games show regression if it cannot brute force the performance. Although bad for early adaptors, once Blackwell's core features are utilized by future games the performance gap from the older and competing gpu's will widen. Intel gpu's performance might also increase in the future when games are coded to support its functions, benchmark apps like timespy does hence the reason ARC gets good score but not on games made before its release. Chicken and egg thingy where GPU makers are introducing new technology that current games doesn't fully utilize yet but will get better in the future similar to the Ray Tracing debacle where many games doesnt even support it much less have acceptable frame rates with it enabled, now with games like IJatGC it's a requirement.

I bought a 7900 XTX last January for $800. It's done a decent job at 4K but I do fall below the 60 FPS mark in certain games. I'm just wondering if this is worth the hefty price to upgrade or if I should just wait until the 60 series.

For me the 5090 is pointless if you have a 4090......But any other GPU AND if you game at 4K the 5090 absolutely trashes them. Like 60% at least faster than a 4080. The card is a 100% faster than a 3090TI😳

Hey Brian! Do you mind doing an undervolt vs power limit test? IIRC Derbauer once ran a test and concluded that UV is better on the 3090 when that first came out but recommended power limiting instead for the 4090 when that came out. Wonder what method this series will recommend.

you need to set the PCIE connection manually to gen 4 in the motherboard bios when using the gen 4 riser cable. do not use Auto or default.

Why didn't you use FMF2 with FSR3 for the AMD GPU test? FMF2 is an AMD exclusive frame gen that doubles FPS and improves latency at the same time.

Why is Maxsun 4070 Super, last year, had to delete their page multiple times just for having an 8pin PCIe plug and even modify their naming to Limited?

Don't think the 1440p is due to CPU bottlenecks. Btw, other sites are seeing this at several other games at 1440p. It might be because the game uses fewer cores and the cores on the 5090 are clocked lower than those on the 4090. And if the game isn't able to take advantage of enough cores to make up for that clock difference, you'll probably see this.

Normally you drag the voltage curve up a few hundred mhz over the stock curve… I see you didn’t do it. As well as OC the memory. And the 5080 running 30gbps I’d guess the 5090 could easily match it at a 1k oc… so you should see close to matching the .960mv chart with the .875 if my assumptions are correct…

The curve you have shown is not really an Undervolt: At low load it is a slight undervolt - up to the 2GHz mark and after that you are applying a higher Voltage and hard-capping the GPU at 2,3GHz. Good thing such broken settings are ignored :D And strange that so many people STILL get this wrong - essentially completely backwards: You want the curve to be HIGHER for an undervolt.

Yes just power limit both the 14900k and 5090. Regardless 1000w is the lowest I would recommend. I have a 14900k and am getting a 5090 FE and will do the same. My PSU is 1300W.
