Sold my radeon 5700 right before 3000 series launched. I wanted a 3080 so bad and was sick of dealing with bad drivers. Had the money ready to go, and you know the rest. I was stuck with an old 970 I bought for a flip pc for over 2 years. Thankfully, now, I have a 7800x3d and 7900xtx system and have no interest in upgrading. I recommend having that new gpu in your hands before selling your old one.

Those low-end Thermaltake PSUs are low, but they are terrific as an emergency spare. I've made multiple house visits for bad PSUs and tossed in one of those Thermaltakes to get it running again on very tight budgets. One went into an old EMachines tower. You'd never put an expensive PSU in that.

During the mining boom, I ran a couple of Thermaltake PSUs and had no issues with them. IIRC, GN tested them and found them to be safe. But they use fuses for some of the protection circuits so if they experience a surge, they likely will quit working and if you don't have the board repair skills to change the fuses and make sure there is no damage to the PSU, you're left with a brick. Meanwhile, I've shorted out the USB on my gaming rig with an EVGA PSU and it instantly shut off and then fired right back up like normal.

14:44 Those rubber grommets are giving me flashbacks to working for Dell support and sending out 536 replacements of those to a business customer where they had degraded from heat and started to pop. Every single grommet in its own small ziplock bag with part number label and then placed in its own envelope. I got a photo from the horrified customer showing the mountain of packing materials on the floor. 😅

Watching these deals reminds me when I was living in the US and I was grabbing great hardware deals on eBay. Also remember that Microcenter was the cheapest shop for new parts but unfortunately didn’t do deliveries back then. When I came back to Europe I tried some eBay deals from UK (back when they were in the EU) but got scammed like 30% of the time so I just quit that hobby 😂

I've been working with a lot of 6th gen i7/i5 OEM HPs lately myself, they pair well with an RX 570 or GTX 1660 Super. Anything with a 125W TDP or less is fine off a single SATA to 8 pin adapter.

I have one request pretty please if its possible, I just saw that driver compatibility for nvidia gtx 900 and 1000 gpus will drop soon and... I was thinking if you can delight us with an informative clip using nvclean and the new and last nvidia drivers to add compatibility for this old and very capable GPUs? (in nvclean there are some advanced options such as "add hw support" by adding old nvidia gpu iD and then in "advanced tweaks" there is an option to make this driver compatible with the anticheats after being rebuild/recompiled). I reckon will be an interesting topic and future proof vid after this news, to test new nv drivers on older gtx series or in the future with 900 series and especially with 1080ti since is still a very capable gpu, Im still surprised how this gpu will not be supported for way longer but.. I don't know about your part of the world but prices are rising in the UK. About 5% up from last month. Christ even the 1080ti has gone up but there are still bargains to be had if you look hard enough. Picked up a 1660 super today for £100 ($200 AUD). That's the going rate but I know the seller and it hasn't been used for mining. Got the box as well. That 4GB single fan 960 was a steal.

With OEM AM4 system you can stuck. Manufacturers not provide them with any modern CPU support so in case of A8-A12 system it's good if first gen Ryzen will boot.

I could imagine that these i7/i5 workstations are quite chea because 7th Gen Intel is not supported officially by windows 11. Do you think that might impede their resale value? What do you tell your customers about it? I mean I know you can circumvent the requirements and windows 11 runs just fine but MS threatened to not provide security updates.

We will all know later this year! Enterprise customers will still use Windows 10 LTSC and if you go looking there are ways to get those licenses and keep using windows 10 for quite some time yet. However I agree with you in that selling a PC with Windows 10 now could mean a disappointed customer later this year if Windows 11 won't install easily on that machine. Yes you can install it manually on most anything that will run 10 but we won't know how those installs will behave after November this year until it happens. Lastly these older but still quite capable platforms are perfect for Linux.

We've been able to find affordable CPUs and mobos for a long time, even better if you're willing to buy used. Everyone is so hyped on X3D they forget that it only shines with a $2000 GPU and playing at 1080p where NO 4090 owner is playing. CPUs have only improved marginally for years and anything from 7th gen or later is still very viable for most gamers at great prices. Of course the real elephant in the room is GPU prices. If you want anything above a 60 class even used prices are just horrible. With 50 series being mere days away you would expect to see at least _some_ 40 series hitting the used market at decent prices, but 4070tis and 4080s are still selling used for near or _over_ MSRP. Who's really that foolish? I'm just going to buy new then to have the warranty. It's almost like you just have to accept if you're not willing to stick to 60 class cards you're going to get shafted regardless. And that's what's really depressing. $200 for a 3 gen old 70 class is still rough. The AI bubble just can't pop fast enough if we're ever going to see sanity return to GPUs.
