We aren't anymore the bottom line, that's AI and enterprises right now. If you want NVIDIA to lower prices, you have to wait until the AI bubble pops so NVIDIA comes back down to Earth, and that's if A) there's an AI bubble, and B) if it breaks on time where they aren't the only relevant company to develop AI and GPUs. The only silver lining is that they aren't killing their GPU division because they can still sell them to enterprise so at least gamers will have NVIDIA for the time being, if you even want to pay those prices. The only way to participate to make the GPU market better is to either buy AMD/Intel GPUs or stop gaming all together, not really exciting options to all of us.

If you're on a 3070, I'm assuming you're probably 1440p. The 5080 (and 4080) are in a kinda weird place where they're really "overkill" for 1440p, but just not quite ideal for 4k. My own opinion (grain of salt) is that 4080 and 7900XTX are almost perfect for 1440p Ultra-Wide displays (5.7m pixels). But that's not a huge market. If you're staying 1440p (at 16:9), I'd more look at 4070TiSup/7900XT/7800XT/etc. Although it depends on how much you're into ray tracing, that could make 4080super/5080/7900XTX more interesting. Vram is a "you have enough or you don't" situation. Adding more vram doesn't stack performance linearly. It's just that if you run out, things go sideways badly. 8GB will hit "you don't have enough" sometimes, and you'll get bad stuttering. But if you're at 1440p, 16GB is going to be pretty solid really. I guess that could change, depending on game devs and their lack of optimizations... I dunno. As for 4k, GPU makers (and monitor makers) are _still_ really teasing the consumer with gatekeeper pricing. I kinda understand why: once everyone has a 32-42" 4k panel and a gpu which can run it very solidly ...what are they going to sell? 5k? 8k? It won't look perceptibly better. Convince devs to use more ray tracing? Convince devs to optimize more poorly? I don't want to make the dumb quote (Nobody will ever need more than 128k ram), but GPU's & displays are getting kinda close to an end-game scenario. At least until something new comes along to shake up the market. I paid the coin to Charron, and got a 4090 (and a great large 4k panel) in 2022, but I could easily see myself still using it in 2030 unless something drastically changes (or it melts...)

The RTX 3080 was a 63% increase over the RTX 2080. The RTX 4080 was a 49% increase over the RTX 3080. The average performance uplift generationally is about 39% but I remember that people thought the GTX 680 was so much better than the GTX 580 back then and it was just a 23% increase in performance for the same price. So if a 23% upgrade in performance qualifies it as 80 class then where would the RTX 4080 sit now in terms of performance if each generation was just a 23% uplift? If each generation's 80 class only improved by around 23% each generation then we would have the RTX 4080 being at the performance level of the RTX 2080 ti or RTX 3070. I just thought that was interesting.

The thing is the generation gap between the 90 and 80 card. Before you could get close to 90% of the performance in 80 cards for 60-70% of the price of the 90 card that made them value for money for gamers. Now it is 60% performance for 60% price so it is same in terms of price to performance. Lower tier cards tend to be more price to performance for gamers. Who don't want to spend much but get high performance out of their money. Bang for your buck.

My 4080s is around 250w ingame, stays cool, no audible noise even ingame. I use quality direct cable to avoir connector melting. It's only 2.5 slots (Asus ProArt). And it wasn't more expensive than your 7900xtx. I dont care much about RT except few games were it looks amazing, kinda same for frame gen. But I care about DLSS2, which looks is so much better than fsr2, to the point that I don't use fsr2 even when dlss2 not available (like Tiny Tina wonderlands), because it just looks bad.

most games, they don't make ray tracing good enough to even be worth losing frame rate for or pay extra for nvidia gpu. only a few games has good enough ray tracing to actually use it. most games just slap on a quick single ray tracing graphic setting and not the entire suit of ray tracing settings.

Everybody is saying 16gb is enough for 4k gaming and that may be true TODAY, but we're talking about a card that wont release for another 6 months and if I'm buying a high end $900-1000 GPU in 2025 then I need something that will last for many years. I doubt you'll get more that 2 years from a 16gb 5080 before 16gb just isn't enough for 4k gaming anymore. Yall sound like the people who were saying 10gb is enough for the 3080 when it launched. It all seems a bit false in reality because until recently, wasn't the 5080 supposed to be the flagship? and if the 5080 were to be only 20% more powerful in rasterization than the 4080, the 7900xtx could remain on the market and would have 15% less performance but it would have 24GB of VRAM so I don't know how much it suits Nvidia to make such a bad card.

Imo nvdia gained its old power against amd again and they'll keep the power until another competitor comes into play. So thats why we see that huge performance gap between 5080 and 5090. Secondly, these 80 and 90 series are generally used by vfx and film studios for rendering and realtime fluid simulations etc. So basicly nvdia's main target is those companies. What I am trying to say is, Those companies have to upgrade their 4090's to 5090 inorder to compete with others. Therefore 5080 can not be more powerfull than 4090. This is basicly their strategy to have their cards sold to specific customers.

If the 5080 Will only be 20% Faster than the 4080, this Will be the worst 80 GPU in years. Usually the 80 of a new generation Is 40 to 50% Faster than the previous 80 GPU.

Yes and no only 20 and 30 series were 40+% faster than their previous gen counterparts while everything before them was in the 20-30% range but it’s definitely true that 20% will be the worst we ve seen since like 500 series 😂

Sounds like great news to me. If one can get within 20% or so of a 4090, and do so at half the price, that sounds extremely positive. And then maybe the 6080 will be 20 or 30% slower than a 5090 at half price. Endless savings on basically flagship cards, we just get them a couple years later. Of course $800 is still a lot of money, but it is way better than $1600 or $2000 or whatever they end up charging. Let us hope they don't drop below 16gig on any 5000 series cards. (of course they probably will anyway, cause they are nice like that), but we can hope.

look at how the 4070 is now its a upgraded 3080 so i suspect the 5070 will be as strong as a 4070ti which will be a good jump I suspect to the 5080 will be as strong as a 4080 And the 5090 will be the 4090ti from the 1080 card I had since the month it came out I was getting great fps using 1440 high in every game I only upgraded cause I needed the newer tech for upscaling So if I wasn't upscaling I still would have the gtx 1080 and still getting good fps I only upgrade now for future updates to use more power of my card for topaz

Just FYI Nvidia planned the same with 4080 and 4070ti 4070ti was named 4080 And 4080 was named 4090 and the current 4090 was supposed to be 4090TI So dont build up your hopes on rumors but if thats true u will go for AMD for sure Performance below 4090 by huge margin for 900$ is a steal

Actually wish it was a bit more powerful for 4k cyberpunk with path tracing which is a hell of an experience but needs dlss and frame gen to get a good fps. Would be glad to go to amd if they can provide that level of performance but we all know they cant 😂

Not a fanboy. But, I'm so so glad I moved over to Radeon GPU. I love my rx 6700 xt. Rock solid card. LOVE the Adrenaline software. I just go so tired of Nvidia's not looking out for the gamers. And all the money grabbing. The Radeon has been a breath of fresh air. All the unstable driver talk is fruitless. Maybe that was the past. But, I've had nothing but great results with every driver so far.

The main reason the 5080 is so much worse than 5090 is due to limitations in GPU power they can sell in China. 5080 is JUST at the regulation limit. 5090 will now be allowed to be sold in China, thus they can actually make it good.

Dream Nvidia 50 series lineup : 5080 is 50% better than 4090 for 800$ and 24gb, 5080 ti 32gb 1000$ 55% , then the 5090 60% better with 36gb VRAM at 1200, and 5090 ti 40gb 1300$ 65%, then the AI titan 70%+ better with 48gb RAM for 1600, , but yea, we can keep dreaming

I think you're missing the point, dude. When the 5080 releases, you're basically getting a 4090 at HALF price! The 4090 is already overkill for most games, so using an equivalent model in 2025 should still be just a competitive, especially given that AMD still won't have anything to compete with the current 4090.

My treat once I pay my car off in a year is to upgrade my GPU. I'm looking at jumping from a 3080 to whatever is top of the line for AMD. Nvidia has given up on gamers and as such, I've given up on supporting Nvidia. The 3080 was my first ever Nvidia GPU and will likely be my last.

If the 5080 really only has 16GB it's gonna be completely pointless. Why would you at this point buy a card that might not hold up until the end of this and definitely not the next console generation? Why would you by NVidia at all, when AMD is the future proof choice? I won't complain though. I like NVidia, but I don't like being stuck with it just because AMD isn't supported by some projects I rely upon. This'll probably make them rethink since VRAM is the bottleneck for RTX cards right now.

Let's be honest. The base 80 series will suck & then the TI or SUPER will release and close the gap. NEVER buy an 80 or lower series at launch, because in 6 months the REAL cards release that close the gap. This isn't new. It's marketing and the FOMO crowd just needs to learn to wait a few months.

i think i stick to my 3080 ti xD yeah i wanna play 4k xD but i am happy to play on 1440p too still get good frames in unreal 5 engine games so no need to upgrade if the 5080 isnt covering or going over the 4090 i might switch amd/intel maybe for a upgrade if its good or outperform the 4090 and prolly 30-50% cheaper too. cause if the 5080 isnt outperforming the 4090 then the 5070 isnt outperforming the 4080 wich means basicly no use for any upgrade besides prolly a new dlss function only 50xx series has..

Oh as i do i always wait until after a mid gen refresh....this pushes down the price of original spec cards sometimes by a not so insignificant amount. Oh a word to the wise, guys if you buy a new card, take the fan assembly off and check the thermal paste....why i hear you ask? Well the answer is quite simple, all AIB'S are now using the cheapest, crappiest thermal paste they can buy. Check on youtube...im not lying. Get the highest quality thermal paste you can get and apply it correctly. Your graphics card will love you for it. It has been shown that doing this on a 4090 can drop its temps by upto 11 degrees (note i said upto, as everyones results will vary). Ultimately doing this will extend the life of your card, (unless theres some kind of hardware defect present (see intel 13th / 14th gen failures)

a 5080 at 799 will have me intrigued anything above 900 dollars that isn't a 5080Ti is absurdity and we shouldn't even be here.. but thanks to people buying the 2080Ti at 1200 dollars we are here and this is why we are here. the 5080Ti should be 950 dollars. You can say they will never do it, but tbh the RTX 3080Ti was 1000 dollars and the 3080 was 799 and it beat the 2080TI twice over with 10 gigs of vram no less and it was a non ti card, and this was at launch, 1 gig less than its predecessor. The 3080 at msrp is still the best thing Nvidia released to this day and it would've outshined the 1080Ti legend status if we didn't have a chip shortage, scalpers and Bit coin mining surges. It was the perfect card, coming out at the worst time in history.
