NVLink really just means "SLI," at least, when speaking about these cconfigurations. We benchmarked two Titan RTX cards in SLI vs. 2-way SLI 2080 Tis and 1080 Tis.

Standalone review of Titan RTX: • NVIDIA Titan RTX Revie...
This review benchmarks the NVIDIA Titan RTX cards in SLI, or NVLink, in a two-way setup for gaming applications. An additional power test is present for comparison versus a single card. Testing primarily highlights SLI 2080 Ti cards, SLI 1080 Tis, and a single Titan RTX, although plenty of other GPUs are present in the benchmarks. If you're looking for the technical "best" GPU configuration for gaming, this is sort of it -- but that doesn't mean it should be purchased, of course, and that's something we talk about in this video.

Steve, why do you say 3% improvement and don't recommend buying two of them?! 132fps with 2080 Ti SLI and 150fps with TITAN RTX SLI. 18fps! That's already enough for me to buy them! There are always enthusiasts who will buy the best! And why do even benchmark them in 1440P. Who would buy them for 1440P, lol. I have that 4K GSYNC HDR 144Hz monitor and I want to maximize it!

I am really interested in someone leaking the RMA numbers on RTX products. It's pretty insane how much units that were either review samples or purchased by reviewers/journalists had defects. I don't think I've seen anything like this since the Nvidia GTX 400 series. I am really curious what the failure rate will be at 2 years out for normal users.

@@zhangirduiseke676 Ummmm... did you not understand the frame time info and why that is important to reviews? Who wants 150fps when it's in no way smooth? Did you see those frame times and +100ms stutters? Doesn't matter how baller you are, spending an extra $3000 for 3% extra avg FPS is stupid, especially when it's a laggy stuttery experience.

Great video. Completely agree with your conclusion. 2080 ti is a reasonable purchase if you have lots of money. (Not worth going for anything higher). Also, not worth upgrading from 1080 ti. If you have a 1080 ti (or Titan V) it's not worth upgrading and instead should wait for a 3080 ti.

If you need an excuse to test 24GB of VRAM load up X-Plane at 4K with all the details maxxed out. I'm scratching my head why you guys don't include flight simulators in your benchmarking. X-Plane is good at loading up VRAM with textures as much as there is available, and can give quite accurate FPS numbers depending on the load placed on the card(s) and what is being rendered on the screen. Not everybody out there is a FPS gamer. Please seriously consider this.

@Xtreme Performance I don't seem to recall Nvidia making a 280 Ti... I remember the GeForce 280, but no Ti :P I know this post is old but I couldn't resist! Also, people need to remember, the Titan isn't marketed at gamers anymore like you said, or even enthusiasts. It's being marketed at content creators and newbie deep learning. I have two Titan RTXs in my main rig which I use for rendering video, 3D work and work in Unreal Engine 4. All of which it does an amazing job with. I am super satisfied with the results in Unreal Engine 4 as the editor can eat video ram fast..... But in games, yeah just go with a 2080 Ti But I can say with confidence, these cards are *not* shit compared to anything. They are monster cards.

@@JulianUccetta Finally, someone who sorta understand what they are doing. These cards aren't for gaming, and that's pretty obvious. My friend uses these for video editing, software design, and 3d modeling. When he games, the cards boil, but the frame-rates cream a stock 2080ti sli setup. I recommend water cooling to anyone who is planning to use these cards. These cards depend heavily on how much the CPU can feed it, so when I saw they were using an i7 8700k to benchmark it I instantly thought that the test had lost some capability to showcase it's prime capability. Gamersnexus needs to pair it with an i9 9900k and at least 32gb of ddr4 3600 to get the most out of it. Also benchmarks in map games like FSX and HOI4 would be useful in highlighting where the card really shines: VRAM.

11GB of VRAM is sufficient for 4K rendering using Unreal Engine, but once I hit it with the "8K” setting (7680x4320). 11GB is just not working at all. And substance painter uses a lot of VRAM while doing 4K(4096x4096) texture. So the pros who need a lot of VRAM but not paying for the Quadro drivers might consider the TITAN series. 😂

Matthew B. The Titan V was more compute oriented than production. These cards are compute beasts too at FP32 with the larger VRAM to load larger models, but are lacking in FP64 compute. For production it’s a similar story - but for tensor accumulation at FP32 they have double the performance of the 2080 Ti. This really does push these cards into the best value tensor machines for DNN.

The amount of memory on these cards is now getting so high that it might be feasible to run some very memory-intensive particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations on them, which could benefit tremendously from both CUDA and tensor cores. I know that this is not exactly your area, but you could provide some good insight here anyways, without straying too far from your niche :)

my motherboard finally dried off so I got to testing these today. with the power input shunt resistors swapped to 3MO everything seems to still work fine - no safe mode throttling. With an otherwise stock system of 7960x, 4x 16gb of DDR4 and two of these a Timespy run was pulling about 1000w from the wall, which is about 50w lower than I was getting with resistor-stacked Titan Xp's in the same rig.

Well, for ppl with a lot of money, $2500 is like $25. So, saving $13 or so from the 2080 Ti is nothing to them. Or, rather--just a $13 difference, of which is like a cocktail at a dive bar. I don't think $13 can even get you a cocktail at a fancier bar, IMO.

They really have 12gb.. But they listed it as 11gb to avoid a fiasco like the 4gb 970s that were actually 3.5gb because only 11gb of the 12gb is usable so selling it as a 12gb is false advertisement and could result in more lawsuits.

I actually think the Titan Cards could be the best option for gaming IF you are a professional In-Game Photographer. In-Game Photography LOVES super super super high resolutions (not frame rates obviously), so the combo of using SSAA + DSR would be beneficial in this scenario. The only problem is that DSR + SSAA takes up an absolute boat load of vram, so even a 2080 ti probably couldn't run SSAA + DSR (assuming you have a 2k or 4k monitor as your native resolution), as you start running out of vram really quickly. But with the Titan cards having so much vram, it might work.

You said you used SLI but on the nvidia page it mentions memory scaling/pooling to 48GB which wont be SLI. so does it have both functionalities? "TITAN RTX NVLINK™ BRIDGE Double the effective GPU memory capacity to 48 GB and scale performance with up to 100 GB/s in total bandwidth of data transfer utilizing the NVIDIA NVLink™ technology."

Except that NVLINK isn't exactly like SLI.... SLI is one directional with 1 master GPU and 1-4 slaves. As to where NVLINK there is no master or slave GPU because the datalink is bi-directional. - This would be true even when not being able to achieve a true compounding of the 11GB per card. I think that's what you meant, but it could have been interpreted differently by some newbies, so just clarifying. Great presentation though! Truly a nice explanation. Thank you.

I'm gonna pass the overpriced nvidia 20 series for rich/enthusiast/fanboy people and wait to see what AMD as to say and offer next year, and if not interesting, I'll just upgrade to a used 10 series card, and problem solved.

Question for the guys at Gamer's Nexus. What are your settings for "Pre-Rendered Frame" in your control panel? Most people either have it set for "Auto" by default or max it out to 4 frames rendered ahead of time. The SLI and NVLink amply state in the programming notes that you shouldn't have any more than 3 frames pre-rendered for normal video as well as VR headset. Anything higher and Microsoft's DirectX stalls and you get micro-stutters that aren't related to dynamic voltages and fan controls to keep cards in a specific thermal envelope. The problem with SLI and NVLink is, what's not talked about; if you set the pre-rendered frames too low, you waste power running multiple cards, not getting the full benefit regardless of the type of rendering mode being used across the cards. Set it too high and the input lag is then obvious and your peak frame rates go up but the frame latency also goes up, not to mention the game feels sluggish or like your floating at times when you have a lot of activity on the screen. For a single card, set it to 1. For two or four cards, set it to 2. For three cards, set it to 3. Why 3 on three cards? In the case that the driver decides to render a frame of the game on each card, you're covered. Why 2 on a 4 card system? Sometimes the driver will pick two frames to be rendered on two cards and then automatically pick two other cards for Physics and other calculations. It would be ideal if selecting 4 pre-rendered frame as per 4 SLI or NVLInk cards but due to an internal design flaw in Microsoft DirectX, the buffers can't react fast enough to make this a reality. Perhaps in the next version of DirectX this will be addressed. The same situation happens with AMD cards doing the pre-rendering frame over 3 in X-fire mode.

Gamers Nexus could you run some tensor flow benchmarks? And maybe some computational fluid dynamics benchmarks? Can try an open-source code like PyFR (github.com/vincentlab/PyFR) rather than commercial like ANSYS Fluent (www.ansys.com/products/fluids/hpc-for-fluids) as the licenses are stupidly expensive... Would be interesting to see how the cards perform outside of rendering and video production workloads where they should really shine!

WE CAN ALREADY GUESS YOUR CONCLUSIONS FROM ALL THE OTHER SLI VIDS YOU'VE DONE...SLI/FPS IS FAST; FRAME TIMES SUFFER; ITS NOT WORTH THE MONEY; BLAH BLAH BLAH... MAYBE BATTLEFIELD DOESN'T SUPPORT SLI RIGHT NOW??? IDK, BUT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN WORTH MENTIONING SO WE WOULD AT LEAST KNOW YOU'D CONSIDERED IT... people that bought the 1080ti early for a cheap price like a friend that got 2 for 1200 usd when they were new got his money worth of use out of those that for sure. Its ridiculous when last gen (also being very old now as it is), is still worth owning perhaps more so than even a rtx 2080 in the latest games. and price vs performance it definitely. though people are selling them old now for super op prices so the line is not that sharp unless you already own them.

It is all a matter of getting used to it. When i switched from Rubberdome Keyboards to Cherry MX switches i didn't think it was that big of a difference. 6 months later i sit down in front of a rubberdome again and its totally YUCKY, can't go back anymore. 60 to 144Hz is a huge difference and G-/FreeSync makes it even better. I am at this point able to tell at 90FPS if G-Sync is ON or OFF. I bet you if i sit in front of a 240Hz screen for a year... and then switch it to 144Hz i could see that difference, but first i need to get used to how it is supposed to look. But yeah i'd take 4K 144Hz over 1080p 240Hz any day because at this point the pixels of my 1080p screen are bothering me much more than the fluidity of the picture which is perfectly fine with 144Hz G-Sync... as long as it stays above 90FPS meaning not even 0.1% dips below 90FPS.
