Orange Pi really should set the default boot order to be SD card, USB and then NVME. This would solve so many silly issues.

The menu at 9:54 can be reached by using armbian-install on command line. This is different than the Armbian-config that is found using the standard OS search. Took me some time to figure this out.

THANK YOU!!! I have been thinking about which boards can do what speeds and which is best..... I THINK I had mentioned something like this to you way back when you got the Orange Pi, but , or maybe I just thought it to myself lol 🤷‍♂

Glad you got it working... I started copy/pasting instructions when I was only about 1/2 way through the video... but then I unpaused and realized you already got it done... lol WOW THAT IS FAST!!! but you gotta try it on the larger size nvme because it uses 4 lanes and not just 2 like the smaller one (compare the labels ... Gen 3 x2 vs Gen 3 x4 ) I hope you run the same tests on the same drive and the SAME OS (if possible.... I doubt it tho) but on the Raspberry Pi when you get the CM4... heck you could always buy mine if you want.. I don't use it .... shipping might be a LOT tho LOL :)

Great NVMe information. 🥳 The Raspberry Pi4 vs the Orange Pi5 is a little bit like a 6 cylinder vs a V8. So far my OPi5 runs things about 2 to 4 times faster than the RPi4. Next I need to try out the ARM Mali-G610 GPU and NPU if you’re wanting to run AI. Now there is a Orange Pi 5 Plus 16GB Rockchip RK3588 8 Core 64 Bit and a Orange Pi 5B 4GB Rockchip RK3588S 8 Core 64 Bit Wi-Fi6, BT5.0 😎 The Rockchip rocks. Thank you.

I wrote a long and helpful reply to your question here but I am unable to post it because YT's crazy algorithm keeps deleting the comment. It would seem that YT doesn't like the fact that as a cyber-security consultant in my day job, I talk a lot about that word that rhymes with "packers" meaning "the bad people that break into computer systems" in other channels and seems to then target innocent comments I make containing some word combinations it does not like. I've tried four times now to post the comment by making small alterations each time but YT keeps deleting and I give up now. I really am getting sick of fighting against YT's algorithms when I really just want to answer some comments and genuinely help people like yourself. I have no idea what combinations of words in my comment offends their stupid algorithm when all I am doing is talking about SBC manufacturers and Linux distros! It's ridiculous that this YT monopoly behaves this way.

If you don’t want to spend a lot initially the Orange Pi 5 is very reasonable but doesn’t have WiFi or Bluetooth. I have a playlist on Orange Pi 5 Everything Orange Pi 5 / 5B kzbin.info/aero/PLMJAjiTgBtFn7JSmTE73mj9u_r_6ijuqj The Orange Pi 5b does have WiFi and Bluetooth but you lose nvme (very fast storage). The Pi 4 is the best supported by way of community support and official Linux builds but is not as powerful. The Pi 5 should be out next year. Everything Raspberry Pi. Over 500 Videos kzbin.info/aero/PLMJAjiTgBtFnaITgDfjTnsL9RlnyPTl7M There are many RK3588/s devices available almost too many I have been sent excellent hardware from Mekotronics and Khadas in this playlist SBC computers not Raspberry Pi kzbin.info/aero/PLMJAjiTgBtFn1PN_DZA1SEe6qzGUjHOn0 Before you buy one just make sure the software you wish to run is supported on the exact model you choose. X86/X64 devices are much better supported than ARM devices but do use considerably more power.

Heyyyy..... that's the WaveShare CM4 board that I have :) except mine has a button battery on it (that I can't seem to remember to buy lol) - I'm pretty sure THAT is the BEST Raspberry Pi board you can test nvme speeds on..... it actually runs on the PCIe bus where as pretty much ALL the other boards I had looked at just used the USB ports .... - As far as the Rock Pi boards I'm not totally sure...but it would be nice to compare them :)

@@leepspvideo Looking forward to seeing that. I’ve been trying to get Batocera on my NVME and have had problems the entire time. I was told to just boot the OP5 Arch OS, use etcher on the NVME and clear the SPI flash. Not sure I have the courage to reattempt it at this stage.

If you look at the label of the MakerDisk nvme's the larger one is Gen 3 x 4 but the smaller one is Gen 3 x 2 ... so half the speed..... BUT I don't think this will make ANY difference with ANY of the Raspberry Pi boards (even the CM4 ... which I THINK uses PCIe Gen 2 x 2...but I'm not 100% sure off the tope of my head) .... BUT it MIGHT on the Orange Pi and/or Rockchip boards... I THINK the Rock Pi 4 does Gen 3 x 4 .... but you are better equipped to figure all that out...

I've been running the Argon M.2 SSD for the past year and I've noticed the NVMe version in at least the past 8 months too however couldn't find any reviews/evidence of Pi being able to boot off NVMe. Glad to see that you've found the Argon NVMe version too and with your test above (although not Pi nor Argon) gave me confidence to order the Argon M.2 NVMe to try.

why, I do not have to worry about flash of spi and make sure I can load full sd cards or sd cards as boot disk only. Sorry, I have supported many UNIX's over the years ( including linux ) but booting on orarnge pi is new to me and I am not sure how boot loader looks for o/s ( uuid, device file, etc )
