There is a SPINOR firmware and and NVME image in the flashed file (you see it in the flasher messages). The SPI NOR is a small flash ROM on the OPI5 board, it's where the REAL boot firmware resides. You updated it in you previous video and twice in this video. The SPI NOR chip is a "Memory Technology Device", and in linux it's referred to as an MTD (This is not an abbreviation for MOUNTED as you keep suggesting). If you flash the MTD with the boot loader of a specific Linux distro, it won't work with another distro (or android for that matter), this is the fun you are experiencing. The last OPI 5's I bought supported booting any Linux distro from TF/MicroSD and NVME out of the box without touching the MTD, but not booting from USB.

Thanks, It seems to be more if you switch to Android. I currently have 3 different Linux builds on my nvme drives. I can plug in whichever I choose and it boots. The problem seems to be Android builds as they are written with a different method which then stops my Linux nvme’s from booting.

@@leepspvideo Hmmm, okay, I thought it might be putting the kernel into the MTD flash. It still could be the case if they are all based of off, for instance, the current Debian, as the kernel would be the same. In that case, perhaps the Open WRT image would fail.

Note that if you have USB devices connected when trying to enter maskrom mode, it will not work and you will not see the device connected message in the flashing tool. When flashing using the tool it does alter whatever is on the SPI flash, which also kills booting from the USB port is you have that working. The way that booting works, it really is a mess. Firefly already have multi-boot worked out so there should be no reason that Orange Pi can't do the same.

I think it was me who said to use Aurora Store. I'm surprised AIDA64 didn't show up for you. Might be the device but it shows up for me on other devices. I don't own an Orange Pi 5 to check myself. I just hope it doesn't put you off from using that store

I haven't followed since the release last year and I see they've been busy with a 5b and 5 plus release. I noticed on their software page, besides Orange Pi droid, they have a Pi OS (arch) and another called (OH). Have you tried either or these? I know they also have "generic" ubunty and debian options to. I wonder what the best os might be for home assistant.

I have flashed and booted Arch but not tried it much. I prefer Armbian and the custom Ubuntu for Linux. Seem to get much better compatibility

Your videos are wonderful, however my orange pi 5 plus does not work with any nvme ssd that I bought, lastly I bought a Wester Digital SN350 480GB, and I managed to make the orange pi 5 plus start with ssh nvme, but I left it for 12 hours to running without me touching it and after that the operating system was still running normally, it was I using chomium that the nvme disk disappeared and started giving input/output errors for any commands. What's worse is that I feel alone I googled and didn't find any reference to this error. I'M HATING ORANGE PI 5 PLUS, I CAN'T SEE THE TIME TO HAVE A RASPBERRY 5 this one works without any problems.

I'll check out this video later today, if I install it based on your instructions am I going to run into the same FAT32 4GB file constraint issue when trying to transfer files onto Android 12? I noticed when I was successfully booting Android off an SD card that it would force me to reformat any connected drive to FAT32. If so, any recommendations on how to get files onto the NVME larger than 4GB?

Mine can output 1080p 120hz via HDMI with android 12 on sdcard but the m2 sata version only avaiable 50-60hz, i try android os or droid os on sata both cant output 120hz ... the os run smoother and better graphic on sata but i really need 120hz to play t3 arena ( an android game ). Hope some1 know how to fix that :( i just pay 5$ for that expensive used 128gb m2 sata ...

In the guide I think it’s only Linux or Windows. Windows being easier from the looks of it. You could try UTM Windows 11 and Linux on M1 MacBook.
