In an interview he did yesterday he stated his issue with his forced closure was that dance studios, other gyms, martial art studios, and the like weren't being forced to follow the same closure rules. He said he didn't want those businesses to close of course, but was upset about the apparent hypocrisy towards his "types" of gyms or businesses since there didn't seem to be a rime or reason for which businesses had to close and which ones didn't. The media, however, is more responsible than for just their hypocrisy; it is equally responsible, in my opinion, for sensationalizing the governors closures and not reporting the effects it has on so many small, independent businesses and the patrons supporting them.

Correct me if I am wrong. I did this math really quick, but I searched up a local gym square feet per area. The average for a local gym is about 1,066 square feet. In comparison, a local Walmart or target average square feet totals around 180,000 square feet. Now I just plugged in some random numbers of 20 people in each business place without a mask. I also had to factor in the 6 feet rule put in place, and when it comes down to it. If there are around 20 people in a Walmart, there are about 1,500 feet per person between them, and if you put this into the small business or local gym, there are about 8 feet between each person. Now we have to add in mask windows and airflow in the room, and for the small business, it is starting to look like a covid attraction while we have Walmart or Target, which would seem to have a lot more room for things. I hope this makes sense and answers your question. One last thing to add is that when you look at who feeds more families, Walmart and Target do they also take up a huge portion of their sector, so closing those big businesses will put more economic strain on our economy than small business will really be in trouble. Now I might be wrong on this matter so take this with a grain of salt.
