Muzzle awareness was horrible throughout the whole video. 7:36 really stands out!! PHs tracker is literally one foot from the business end of his rifle !!! Accidents happen when you least expect it. Nice buff. Thanks for sharing

As a serious gun-nut this is a frustrating video; it should start with a discussion/introduction of the firearm and caliber etc... selected. And obviously since this is a "factory sponsored" hunt we'd like to know about the ammunition since I'd guess it's not handholds. Sheesh! just not enough information!

That’s how they carry on African hunts.

Looks like a Ruger made Marlin 1895 (Guide Gun configuration). Most likely with Hornady 45/70 325 gr FTX. I would have taken hot 405 grain Hard Cast myself. The 325 FTX is ok for deer and elk but too light for my taste on dangerous game like bears and Buffalo. I have some hot handloaded hard cast Lee 405s that get an honest 1550 out of my 18" barrel. They shoot diagonally through big Ohio whitetails but absolutely tear up too much meat and leave a wake of bone fragments all the way through. But on a buffalo 4 plus feet of penetration might be a good thing. I switched to Federal Hammer down for deer because the Hornady brass is shorter to fit that long tipped bullet in the action in I'll length brass and does not crimp well in my Lee factory crimp die. Plus I have to clean the chamber of the fouling ring if I want to use full size brass afterwards. Otherwise cases will stick or not chamber even.

@@coldandaloof7166 you are correct! I used a custom load that Hornady worked up for me, using the 250gr Monoflex bullet. Not available on the market. The load and bullet preformed perfectly.

@@coldandaloof7166but don’t forget like the hornady sst the fxt tip is like the sst (super shock tip) and it’s made to expand on impact and even though buffalo are tough animals the expansion on impact makes a bigger wound channel and if the bullet exits the other side it makes a bigger exit hole

nice video. I am a 45-70 but was dissapointed that there was no discussion of the Marlin you were shooting, what ammo, scope, etc on this video or Part 1. Would have liked to have seen more on how the cartridge performed on the buff, entrance locations, penetrations, the bullet if recovered, etc.

This was a cringe to watch. I’ve never been to Africa. Probably will never have the opportunity. But that being said I’d had been a mad SOB if I was this man’s PH, way he wants to just take off. Excitement be damned lol. Shot twice, didn’t top it off. I don’t care if I’m hunting squirrels, top it off, take a chill. Listen to the man you’re paying who is also there to keep you alive. As well as we don’t know the rifle/load anything. This man wouldn’t go whitetail hunting with me.

As a guide in Nothern B.C. I don't understand why so often in these videos, I see saftey go out the window . Hunters go from proper gun carrying safety , to being mister cool , look at me I'm in Africa. I completely understand the PH carry his rifle that way with no sling and at the front of the line most of the time . A guided in the area where I hunted was killed. Shot in the back of the head by his hunter . One up the tube and not controlling the direction of the muzzle

A sling is actually a bad idea on most dangerous game. Too easily tangled. However muzzle awareness is basic gun safety and seems to have been totally ignored here.

Would have liked to see the rifle/load info. Muzzle control was visually lacking, PH included. Very unprofessional. I’ve heard that the butt over shoulder carry gives you complete control of the muzzle. Probably true, but you still have to execute….goes against the grain of a lifetime of competitive shooting. High pucker factor though. Enjoyed it more after a couple shots of whiskey…

I have the exact same model - a Marlin 1895 GBL. Curved pistol grip, blued steel, big loop lever, mag tube about a half inch shorter than the barrel. AFAIK, Marlin never made the 1895M (450 Marlin) with a curved pistol grip, nor with a 6-round mag tube like this guy has.

I think the PH should have provided the American with an African rifle, out pf respect for the Quarry. Yes it worked. Reminds me of the anecdotes of Teddy Roosevelt hunting in Africa with not enough gun, and reportedly wounding dangerous game that resulted in the deaths of locals.

@@maxcontax - 45-70 will do the job with the right ammo. Sure looked like he was using Hornady FTX, though. Geeze, I quit using those on white tails a long time ago because of core separation. I've got some 525 lead alloy I'd use on a good broadside shot or a straight-on frontal into the brisket.
