Hi Miss Pinay. This is one of the kinds. Cave like structure reminds me of a little bit of Gaudi. Everything is organized and sophisticated. This is a place for all ages. Love it Especially, the dinosaur exhibition is stunning !!! So interesting. I drop my jaw...wow......awe-moments here and there. The NY scraper is impressive from the museum. There are countless of artifacts I need a whole day to look and study Thank YOU Very mush, Miss NYker. Superb!!!!!

My family and I visited the American Museum of Natural History two times when we visited New York City recently in July 2023. We also visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art once. My favorite exhibits at the AMNH have to have been The Hall of Saurischian Dinosaurs, The Hall of Ornithischian Dinosaurs, The Hall of Vertebrate Origins, The Titanosaur, The Hall of Primitive Mammals, The Hall of Advanced Mammals (A.k.a the fossil halls), The sharks traveling exhibit, The Hall of Primates, The Hall of North American Mammals, The Hall of Ocean Life, The Hall of Biodiversity, The Rose Center for Earth and Space, The Hall of African Mammals, The Hall of Human Origins, The Hall of Gems and Minerals, The Hall of Mexico and Central America, The Hall of South American Peoples, the Hall of Pacific Peoples, The Hall of Reptiles and Amphibians, The Hall of Asian Mammals, The Hall of Asian Peoples, The Hall of African Peoples as well as the new Glider Center and Invisible Worlds, Butterfly Vivarium and Insectarium. I also loved Egyptian Art, Greek and Roman Art, The American Wing, Vincent Van Gogh art gallery, Islamic Art, Art from Near East and Dutch Masterpiece Paintings from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. We couldn’t visit Arts of Africa, Oceania and the Americas at the Met Museum which had sub-saharan African art, Oceanic art and Pre-Columbian art, as it was currently being renovated into five separate exhibits that will open in 2025 called the Michael C. Rockefeller Wing but we did see artifacts from cultures from the Pre-Columbian era, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Pacific Islands at the AMNH in three of its cultural halls that I mentioned earlier.

You really know the museum well! It’s such a pity that many of us who live here don’t know the wonders of the museums that call New York its home. I am going to try to visit more this year, more so since I get free entrance as a corporate benefit. Twice to this museum this year and hoping for a third to get into the Butterfly Vivarium. I was just at the Met this weekend to catch the last week of Karl Lagerfeld’s LINE OF BEAUTY exhibit and need to go back to catch more of the rest of the museum. So much to see!

I visited the American Museum of Natural History as well as the Metropolitan Museum of Art and most of their permanent exhibits and traveling exhibits and the Central Park Zoo and most of its animals with my family twice in two long New York City trips, one in April 2023 and another in July 2023 as well as Times Square, the Empire State Building, the One World Trade Center, the subway trains, Midtown comics, Rockefeller Center, most of its stores, Joe’s Pizza, Grand Central Terminal, Chinatown and Little Italy. But someday me and my family should visit Chicago and all the places there I dreamed of visiting; the Field Museum and Art Institute of Chicago and all it’s exhibits, the Shedd Aquarium and all its stores plus the Willis tower and the subway trains and Los Angeles and all it’s sights like the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, The La Brea Tar Pits and Museum, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Getty Museum and Hollywood and all it’s stores too.

Is there a free entry for tourists any day of the week ? I heard that the last hour entry is , any clue ?

Unfortunately, the pay-what-you-wish admission is only for NY- NJ- CT residents so it is not totally free. You have to show a drivers license or state ID to prove entitlement. For everyone else including corporate and museum members, you need timed reservations which you can get online. The museum is open up to 5:30pm, and while you can enter close to the closing time, the special exhibits that come with a separate entrance fee you need to add to the base ticket have timed reservations, the last ones usually being at 4pm. That is the case for the Butterfly exhibit which is hard to secure on the day of your visit or when you are in the museum. That one needs to be reserved way ahead. Enjoy your visit! The MoMA is one NY museum which I know has a sponsored free Friday entrance, but you will need to fall in line - and that is usually a long one. Have fun!!
