You actually looked at an apartment in the Ansonia building (the one with all the old New York charm)? That is one of the most iconic buildings in NYC. Love the old New York apartments the best.

It's nice to see one of these videos that is in this price range. I feel like people that have higher budgets don't make these. It's either astronomical prices shown by real estate agents or vloggers looking for "affordable" places to rent.

It’s crazy you say that bc when I read your comment before watching the video I thought “affordable, so like $2k?” Nope. She hits us with the $6k😭🫠

Omg you toured the Ansonia (building 6, @37:08), that is one of the most iconic and oldest grand apartment buildings in the entire country. They haven't fully renovated every unit (the one you toured seemed to be outdated), but overall anyone who gets to live there is so incredibly lucky. The UWS is where grand luxury apartment buildings were invented (The Dakota, The Belnord, San Remo, etc), most of which are inhabited by many of the wealthiest families on earth. I'm not joking, every single modern building you toured would not exist without those buildings.

Yeah the amenities in Apt 4 are excessive & insane. But Apartment 5 has that vintage old NY feel. so much character and gorgeous architecture and also within their budget.

It was super nice! I forgot to mention the reason we didn’t go for it😅 it had really high condo fees, the owner is trying to sell so we could get kicked out after a year if sold and we would have to pay 2 broker fees so it was too much

Hi!!! New here. Just watched and wowza what beautiful apartments. The one with the gargoyles is where John Lennon lived and was killed right there. Across at the park is where strawberry fields is. I lived a little higher on W 88th and CPW. It was a 1 bedroom walk up in a beautiful brownstone. I miss it!!! The apartment you chose is Amazing. I can’t wait to see how you furnish it!!! I would use a lot of organization type bins etc etc. it makes everything so aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Congratulations 🎉 and I hope you Love it for a long time!!! NYC is where my heart is. I left 2016 and moved permanently in my house upstate. Crazy

Even crazier that you still need to make 40x the rent, so they jack up prices and yet people's wages have not gone up that much. Makes for a difficult situation.

Those people who say why not buy instead of paying over 70-90k a year in rent…do you know how much those places she was looking at?!! I live in NYC until my mid 30s, I can NOT afford my own place and stayed at home to help my family and cover monthly maintenance and all utilities. that was not cheap but was better than My friends who did move out, all had to live with roommates and most end up moving back home 1-2 years due to having very little disposable income after paying rent and utilities. Those friends were all white collar professionals and made almost 6 figures over 20-25 years ago. It seem even less affordable now!

Really nice effort on the video - thank you for sharing. Just a quick thought for those of us who click on these sort of videos for assistance in looking at apartments in NYC, it would have been great to know either the "names" of the apartment building you were touring or at least the addresses for reference (especially the last one). Obviously, not your own personal building due to privacy reasons, which I understand. I've watched a number of these videos on YT for inspiration and I just noticed that others tend to put at least the address -- which is extremely helpful -- in case someone is looking to move and they would like to check out the space for themselves. Which is sort of the whole point of watching it. Thanks again!

Yes. Covid rates were great at the time. Once the pandemic was over rent was increased so much more than it typically would have annually to make up for what they lost during COVID. So sad.

Would buying an apartment not be cheaper? I live in Norway, so I’m not formulary with the pricing in the states. But what are the cons against buying in New York, that so many opt to rent instead?
@awwilliams4914
@awwilliams4914 Жыл бұрын
Buying is extreemly expensive, Like the types of apartments she is looking at would be in the multimillion range. Which would require a very large downpayment and commitment. Many people don't like to make such a longterm investment especially when it requires such a large sum of money or they don't have the large sum. So it would be more responsible to rent. However, there are charper apartments at a similar caliber in NYC but she is limiting her search to her area of preference which make the prices very high for not a lot of space.
@RubmaLione
@RubmaLione 7 ай бұрын
The price of rent is much more affordable (try not to choke when you read this) than to buy in the luxury market in NYC. A 7k per month rental unit could easily cost anywhere from $2.5-$ million to buy here, especially in wealthy neighborhoods like the Upper West and Upper East Side of Manhattan. Also, most apartments are being actively rented, so you only get to choose from what is currently available, which also means you might not want to buy until you eventually find "the one" that you love, which can take many years.

I just don't understand why don't people buy an apartment if your rent is more than 6K ? because it doesn't mean you have to live there for ever just more than 3-5 year

Because taxes and mortgage prices for 2+ Bedrooms are astronomical in nyc and we also don’t know where we want to settle down so it’s not worth the investment

None of those apartments are worth what the rent is. My friend lives uptown Westside pays 1,300 for a huge 1 bedroom. No she don’t have any amenities. Most people that get apartments with amenities. Don’t even use the amenities.

Honestly the only one I liked was that classic 6 that you called “old manhattan” It’s funny that that’s how transplants view those beautiful apartments. The new builds are not nice imo, that look like boxes and they have amenities that no one really uses besides a gym 😂. If I didn’t need the added security those building bring like a Tom Holland or a tech CEO I would get a townhouse with a rooftop, balcony, garden etc for that price range

It’s kind of odd in this day and age to settle down in your mid to late 20s, no? I got the impression that was something in your early 30s, although maybe it just seems that way since I’m younger. But I guess ultimately that sort of stuff is arbitrary, and aligning yourself with societal standards at the expense of what works best for you is a surefire way to be miserable :/

Just a word of advice: when speaking of the larger bed room of a home/apartment, the more culturally aware term to use is "primary bedroom" vs "master bedroom" The term "master bedroom" stems from slavery and has extremely negative and racist connotations. I'm sure you meant no harm; but it is a term that is being used more profoundly in the reaestate field due to these reasons, and thought to let you know :)
