...Also, having lived for almost 24 years in this city, New York, in addition to famous skyscrapers, also has, architecturally, culturally, characteristically very diverse, interesting, beautiful places in Manhattan, Brooklyn and other areas. I rode with my bike in different places of Manhattan and Brooklyn, Downtown, Midtown, Upper West and East sides of Manhattan, one of my favorite places are "Gramercy Park area", Upper West side of Manhatten near to Central Park and few others places of Manhattan and Brooklyn and so on., and of course, there is only one New York in this world, but same time there are very difficult social-economic and other problems, both in New York city and in the United States of America in general, which for decades have been recruited for ordinary residents, the majority of the population of New York and the whole of the United States of America. New York is such an extent impossible expensive this metropolis is, metropolis of very rich people, a corporations, financial elite and the like., which means, together with all other things, problems, this city for a normal, good life is good only for the rich, for millionaires, and multimillionaires, even the most raunchy little apartment of some kind of dirty building, with cockroaches, with rats, and mice, is expensive for an ordinary person in New York, people survive, have very difficult social-economic, financial and so on problems, as well as in the United States of America in general, as a result of such a strong middle class, as the developed European countries have, the population of the United States of America does not practically have, therefore, serious social-economic, financial, health-insurance, political and so on reforms are needed, including, respectively in New York too...New York is an incredibly, unbelievably expensive city for the average person, for the majority of the population, for life. Also, in many places of the city there is a lot of dirt, also in subway stations with rats and so on., ...So, I mentioned about New York, good sides and bad sides and so on of this City, but New York is definitely a special city, Megacity, and whatever happens in the future, it will in any case remain a part of my life, I also took and made photo/ pictures from different places of Manhattan, Brooklyn during these years... Sincerely, Alex

As the video goes on, I realize that the cost of living there is very similar to living here in SoCal. I could be wrong, or maybe depending on which part of the state or city. But if I can afford it here, hopefully I can get by in New York too. Thank you much for this update!

Rent is the only one. Pricewise, Internet in NYC, from what you indicated, is cheaper. Laudromat is the same if the prices haven't gone up here in PA. Food is about the same. Even the groceries (the salmon price is the same as here). But this price breakdown gives me a little peace of mind about my son (though he said things are more expensive in NYC. From what you have shown, however, I see them as the same, except for the rent.).

I had a phone call from my credit card company. Stating that there was a charge of $100 dollars for a hotel room in New York city and I was asked if I made the charge. The first thing that came out of my mouth was , where in New York city can you get a hotel room for $100.

I'v said this before but for those who haven't seen the comment on other vids, living in a walkable city with 24/7 mass transit can eliminate the cost and burden of owning a car. I figure I'm saving $800-1500 a month (fuel, insurance, repairs, parking -- paid parking can be over $800 alone). In the 6 years I've been in NYC I've needed a car ONCE to drive out to visit friends in mid-state PA. You will be surprised how much a car costs not only in monetary terms but how much of your precious life is wasted sitting in it. Life is short, spend it doing things; at least you can get things done a laptop or tablet on commuter trains and buses. Many people don't keep a annual budget on a spreadsheet -- after I started doing that tracking all the things I spent money on (especially online purchases and subscriptions etc.) I found plenty of places to reallocate spending. I used to have a 72 mile r/t commute everyday in CA -- that averaged about $1200/month when everything was totaled up for the year for a car. No more of that in NYC. So now the occasional trendy $16 cocktail is ok -- but my local watering hole is pretty cheap anyway.

So true! It's amazing how cars can siphon off your ability to build wealth, and really are such silent budget-busters. When you factor in the cost of insurance, gas, repairs, etc, the cost per/mile is crazy!

@@spoly8139 34,000+ people die in car accidents every year in the US. Yes, it's sad someone was pushed in front of a train but it's comparatively rare and that's why it's national news. Imagine if the news broke every time someone died in a car accident. It would be the only thing on TV.

I canunderstand that is what you tell yourself ,but trust me ,I'm fro NY , it's not owrth it .. NY is a weekend at best .. I can think of much nicer and more interesting places to go for $5000 . Like I said ,I'm from NYC and on a scale of 1-10 , I give NY a 2 .. My friends have been trying to get me to go out in NY FOR YEARS ,but I never make it . When I do go to the US , and to NY , I bypass NYC and just go to visit my Dad 2 hours away .. My friends can't even get me to go out in NY for a night ... I can think of better things to do ..

I'm a Londoner and just came back from NY few days ago. I was really shocked how cheap the subway in NY is comparing to London, but I was even more shocked to see how horrible, scary and dirty it is. Plus for 24/7 service but big minus that you never know when is the train coming and may spend ages waiting at the platform. In London we treat 3 minutes wait as unacceptable LOL

Prices got insane in the post-COVID era. I've never seen it this bad. Rent is at all-time highs, no apartments available anywhere, listings are taken off the market before you even have a chance to see it... and everyday prices sky-rocketed too. It would be very difficult for me to keep my monthly budget (including rent) under $6k.

Growing up, my family was dirt poor. My dad was a Baptist minister and we lived either in Section 8 housing or a parsonage, depending on where we were. In my adult life, I did take a job in NYC was we were actually able to live quite a comfortable life in NYC. Then I got to transfer to Texas and take my salary with me. But my heart in still in NYC. I would rather just be comfortable there than to live like a king here. We will see what the future holds but this I will tell you - if you can't be happy without money, you will never be happy with it.

First of all, I love Adrianna's Happy Food Dance! That is so me!!! Food is life!! 🙃 This is spot on as for the cost of living. I moved to NYC in 2009 from Western NY and man was there sticker shock! I tell people word of mouth is important when apartment hunting. When you look online you see the average rent in NYC is over 3K but just like you pointed out you can find stuff cheaper (decent and safe neighborhoods) but you have to talk to people. I lived by the 30 day MetroCard, I remember back when the 30 day unlimited was only $89!!!

I live in Dallas. Other than your rent, many of your bills are waaaay less than what I pay such as for electricity and mobile phone service. The electric costs go UP in winter down here because I'm like many here with electric heat. Groceries are comparable, but there isn't the fantastic restaurant choices here that are practically at your doorstep. Plus, you don't have car payments or car insurance, which is a huge savings for you. But the elephant in the room is taxes. There is no state income tax here, which is another huge savings for us. I imagine the taxes you pay are astronomical compared to what we pay un taxes Then there are the toll roads, which are EVERYWHERE in Dallas, and they add up. Bottom line, however, is there aren't the same level of experiences in Dallas that you have in NYC. That alone is priceless and, in my opinion, makes living in NY the better bargain.

Gas can indeed be very expensive in Europe, and so is electricity. But a 100 dollars for a pair of jeans isn't very clear. Yes, you can pay a 100 dollars for a pair of jeans, maybe if you buy them at Tommy Hilfiger or Calvin Klein, but in general, you can get pretty decent prices for clothing in Europe. In England for instance, a very good quality pair of jeans from "Next" or "Top Shop" can cost between £30 to £50. Keep up the great videos, love watching you!

We left NY last July to be closer to family (Oh, that was worth it!). Miss NY so much. Especially the recent E River Ferries (where were they 18 years ago?) We don't miss the co-op crap, or paying for doormen, or holiday tipping, or parking garage bills & don't miss neighbors unwilling to control their brats. However, grocery prices never seemed too out of line. We did have the choice of Fairway, Whole Foods, a fantastic corner market (Beyoglu) and one of the nicer C-towns. Also, Price Wise for toiletries,

I think aside from boroughs like Manhattan and Brooklyn, if you compare living costs to parts of Queens and the Bronx, they are a lot more cheaper. I live in north bronx and I think prices there are generally a lot cheaper than prices in brooklyn and manhattan. As for living in the Bronx, it depends on the area, but my neighborhood is really nice, quaint and safe and resources are very easily accessible still. The other boroughs are really great places to live too aside from manhattan and brooklyn!

Thanks for sharing this. You have to look for deals, whenever you can find them. That's because costs are going up, with many things. I'm in Edmonton, Alberta. Jeans here can be quite costly. Certain clothing isn't that expensive, but that depends where you buy it. I've even bought new T-shirts for around $6. A good subway system is a good thing to have, because it makes accessibility to different places that much faster. A very cool looking restaurant, that used to be a bank vault. Cheers! ✌️

Nice and accurate video. I would mention, though, especially for those coming from other countries, that added taxes, fees, surcharges, extras and tips usually make things way more expensive than what they look at first sight. That way of pricing things shocked me when I moved to the US because you almost always end up paying more than what you think. This is especially true when drinking in a bar or eating out. Also, in my experience, groceries (fruit and vegetables, for example) are very expensive compared to other places . And, finally, medical expenses, which can be an extortion, even with good insurance. That said, I think you nailed it in terms of letting people know how much things cost in NYC. Overall it's expensive or vey expensive all around.

Ah, the added tax tripped me up everytime when I visited NYC. Here in the UK, taxes are rolled into the ticket price. What you see is what you pay. Sometimes the till receipt will break it down, but think that is more for the business. It makes no difference to the consumer.

Mobile phones (EE) are £7-8 each with 10mb data each. Chinese takeaway for three of us would come to around £20. Free dental checkups and a filling costs around £15 thanks to the NHS in Scotland! I live in Perth, Western Australia and have a power bill $585 for 2 months and water bill is $518 for 2 months (that’s just 2 utilities) although it is for a house not an apartment and it’s been an extremely hot Summer but still, I think NYC isn’t so bad now in comparison 👍

Thanks for showing this. I live in north Texas in a major city. The costs that you and your wife spend per month are actually pretty similar to my expenses. I just happen to be in a house. So when you add the cost of my mortgage plus the cost of my vehicle with insurance and the costs of home maintenance, electricity, gas (not to mention gas for my car) I actually spend more than you do a month by myself.
