These folks are products of the culture, environment and society from which they come. Did anyone expect they would come here without bringing their morals and behavior with them? People from other countries bring all that they know with them, and that includes what it was like in the heart of third world countries. And since they really don't mix with the new culture beyond what they need to survive, you don't have a "melting pot" you have a fragmented society with altered norms depending on location. I've seen this in my own town with Hispanics, Indians, Ecuadorians, Cubans, Mexicans and people from Europe. They stay in their own groups for the most part.

We only have a "melting pot" when people have to work to become citizens just like my great grandparents did. They came on a ship & survived disease & hunger. They had but the clothes on their back when they came here, worked hard, became citizens & productive members of society, but their mindset was different. They didnt have anything given to them & made their American dream themselves. By their desire for a better life & working hard, they appreciated every little thing & every big thing! We still to this day have people working hard to be citizens & making their American dreams come true. The American dream, in my opinion, isnt about handouts.
