A tradition I started when I had my first tree is that every year I buy at least one new ornament that is special. I did buy a box or two of cheaper filler ornaments but every year I use less and less of them.

Splendid video Lucia, I just put my tree up on December 1st too. When I first moved out my parents' house, I was an aesthetics person because I was just starting out, and I wanted the tree to look good. However, after 10 plus years, I'm more sentimental. All of the cheap "pretty" ornaments have been replaced with the special ones that all have a story attached to them!!!

I do simple aesthetic ornaments (the paper lantern ones from ikea) and then fill in sentimental ornaments as I go (from traveling or ones I've made, etc.) But my sentimental ornaments still follow my general aesthetic- metals and natural fibers, wood, linen, paper

I’m a sentimental ornament girlie. This year my 24 year old son is putting up his first tree and I got he and his partner an ornament from South Beach where they took their first vacation alone together this summer. My first Christmas in my first house in 1985 I had a party and asked everyone to bring an ornament so I started with unique pieces given by friends. When the kids were little we added ornaments that resonated with them. Now I pick up one special ornament each year either from a place I've visited or just something unique. I'm soo late to vlogmas..this season has been so busy! Love your content, Christmas is my fave time of year. I used to be an aesthetic ornament gal but when my husband and I were dating, we collected ornaments wherever we travelled. We've been married for a year and this Christmas we decorated our first tree together with the ornaments we collected (last year we had no tree because we were moving). I definitely prefer sentimental ornaments, I feel like they make a tree so much more special! Whereas if I used aesthetic ornaments, I probably wouldn’t have an attachment to them beyond that year’s aesthetic, if that makes sense.
