I am a new Alibre Cad/Cam user. I have a High Tourque Mini mill. Please continue with your videos using Alibre. I learned more from this video than watching any others. Thank you!

I've been using Alibre Pro for several years. I'm not a designer or engineer, but a chemist, and I use to make jigs and holders and so on for optics or fluid handling stuff. Where I work, SW is the standard. For my personal use, though, I have been quite happy with Alibre. I've been following you for a few years, since the Taig in the apartment days. My setup is very similar to what you started with. I'll have to get very, very serious to upgrade to a Tormach, but I do aspire to that.

Great video, as usual. Glad to see you've added commentary on the 2012. Post everything you have--it's all great.

That would be great. You have an intuitive and incredible curiousity to learn and explain. I look forward to seeing your 2012 material.

You are probably right John. I am extremely critical of CAD systems since I do a lot of complex surfacing and tend to forget that most people don't need that aspect.

I enjoyed the tutorial. I'd love to see how you can show how to make multiple angle cuts(facets) with Alibre. I'm very new and teaching myself. I do some tool designs and am having trouble translating it into CAD. Seeing a 2D angle coupled with the 3rd plane is not easy for me.

can you use alibre to scan in a photo and make a toolpath to engrave said photo? like a picture of a flag or eagle and make a profile of it to engrave on a knife blade or something? or do you need cambam for that or something?

John, should I spend 99, or 199? I see Alibre Design PE on the site, is that the one I need, or that you think is as good or better than in your vid? Thanks for this John, you have made me take the step from Cambam basic drawing to this, and real easy it was. I could draw the bolt and box in minutes after following your guide. Top Job.

Good video. I think I'm going to purchase this cad software for my first. Any recommendations for cam software?

So, in what kind of a price range is Alibre? Their site does not seem to have any pricing info available to the public...

super video. I play it part by part to get familiar with the program. But one thing I cannot get figgered out. How to turn the bold in the assembly part. My bold is turned up side down?

Great video... just one question... can you save these files as dxf and transfer them to a cam software like gsimple and make gcode? I know they will work with gsimple as long as it can be saved as dxf. keep up the good work and informative vids. take care.

Hey there, do you perhaps have a tutorial on how to use the exploded view? I can't seem to get my exploded view to work on my assemble, everything is greyed out.

I was fortunate to purchase the 1011 when it was available. I didn't get the sheet metal module with this version. It took my feeble brain several years to understand how to create a part. I built a CNC table out of wood and got the stepper motors and controllers off eBay. I make small stuff out of wood and some metal parts. I bought v carve and a few other programs for designing things. For the price and ease of use it fits me perfectly.

You are great as a teacher !!! You are natural at it...much better than the Alibre folks. Please do more. I struggle with understanding the sequence list at the left. If you could explain that part It would be great....some times you can edit and sometimes you can not. I noticed that you can re-arrange the order as you did in this video. Please do more. Thanks !

Your'e suggestions of using the shell method and adding secondary planes to the drawing worked wonders ! I was trying to use the Sheet Metal program and after several hours of frustration I scrapped that and followed this video's steps ... And BAM ! in no time at all my bracket was all drawn. I did see that if one makes an attempt to do an operation that is not possible then you have to go back and delete that step from the Left Hand List or it stays in the sequence and messes everything up, even though the Geo Magic called a foul and seemingly stopped the operation. Thanks again. /Chuck.

Thank you I would really appreciate it. I'm new to the Alibre scene and I have already noticed how useful this software can be. No more build step by step and measuring for me :-). Just want the Explode view working now.

When I click on the extrude button my view does not automatically change to 3d like your does. How do I set it up to do that?

Yes you can import a .JPG and trace around it, it does not vectorie anything, but you can scale and image to trace. I reverse engineer a lot of things by taking a photo of it. Search for "Creating A Part Profile From An External Image" by WoodKnot at Instructables for details. This is why I bought Alibre to begin with so I could engrave business logos from scanned business cards for customers.
