NYERERE PART 1: BESIGYE WELCOMES NYERERE WITH BRILLIANT SPEECH: 17 JULY 1988 Exactly 33 years ago today as Habert Semyano posts this clip, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere concluded a 4-day visit to a Uganda with a lecture at the International Conference Centre. Nyerere was welcomed by NRM National Political Commissar, Lt. Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye who, in those days, was rumoured to be Museveni’s successor. His speech confirmed how well Museveni had groomed NRM’s commissars and cadres. Am simply lost or words, thank you Owanatona for digging through the archives to bring to us young Ugandans such information because in 1988 I was only four years old. Watching Dr. Kiiza Besigye lay out that grand democratic path is so emotional that it can leave tears in ones eyes because after what happened in the 1996 elections it leaves you wondering what happened to such a grand plan. Who was thinking otherwise in that conference to bring Uganda to where it is now. It's such kind of history that us young Ugandans should look up to so as to bring back our Country to the correct line, the correct lane.

Mr. Museveni denied this man a chance of putting a firm block on our country. If there's any leader Uganda has missed though there's still some little hope, it's rtd Col. Dr. K. Besigye. He's a very brilliant, intelligent and patriotic man who doesn't want to see Ugandans suffering.

Besigye was simply supposed to invite the chairman to deliver the speech and invite Nyerere there after but he decided to spent all the time to articulate NRM agenda and program. This was supposed to be done by the chairman himself. Besigye seems not to have followed the protocol. This could have been the begining of his problem. You can see that one one was happy with the way he was proceeding including both Nyerere and museveni themselves. This Besigye guy had his presidential ambition right from the very begining. H That explains why of all women , he decided to go eat from where his boss was eating. His speech overshadowed the presence and significance of the chairman. Museveni that I know will always want to be in control including articulating his government policies by himself. He does not trust other people to do such in his presence. Every other person was scared and bored of what Besigye was doing instead of simply inviting the chairman.

In first place, was Besigye supposed to spend all this time to articulate NRM agenda. Was this task given to him or he simply hijacked the occasion and proceeded to articulate NRM program . What did the chairman then do after his ( besigye's) speech.. I doubt if that was how the program was scheduled. This could have them the begining of his problem. I can see every one listening quitely without chairing him even though he was making significant points. The rule of thumb is that where the president or chairman is present, no one is supposed to be the one to articulate Government program like that.
