Seeing him at 2:31 broke my heart. Such a poor thingy, it made me cry. The cockatiel I had before my current one lost a finger soon after he came to us. Even today we still don't know how it happened. Luckily, he recovered and lived a long and (I hope) happy life 💕

This definitely gave me some tips! I have had my Fancy Parakeet Miyuki for awhile now. Since December tenth. She is so young to the point that when I brought her into the shop I got her in (to get some food for her-her beak was trimmed so I just decided to bring her with me to the store) that an employee there asked if I had got her there. I told her yes, and she was shocked, since she was so small and young. When I wack into about a 2 foot radius of her cage she gets anxious. I will definitely try this method!

Wow amazing story Captain B and I are glued to this video. Captain B had an accident and lost his toe he has a little stump, it really is incredible how adaptable these little birds are, he got on with it, no drama he recovered quickly, luckily I acted fast as we do not have an aviary vet for over 70 miles from where I live. The patience you show is amazing, my heart breaks for Schnee loosing his leg, I don't have much compassion for humans lol never shed a tear over people passing away but when it is parrots or any kind of animal it is a different story. Thanks again time for Captain b afternoon nap! :)

I never had a cockatiel missing a foot. The only thing that came close were my mom's cockatiels. They were both boys and both of them were born with one deformed foot. The youngest one was named Spongebob. My mom was greatly affected when their mom, Star died because she had a hard time laying an egg. I haven't seen those birds in years, my mom gave them away to a friend before we moved from Virginia to New Mexico back when I was sixteen. I am twenty-five now. Quite honestly, the history that I have with cockatiels is probably going to be a deterrent. I don't think I could handle a bird. I'll stick with a cat.

This was such a great example! Both of you in Shock and grieving. Even early on, you could see Resilence in both of you! Disabled, I am used to breaking things down. I had to learn which skills drove all the others and then break down that primary skill and amplify it; Resilency and Patience are mine.

I used to have a blue parrotlet named Echo when I was a kid that was missing over half her toes. She was rescued from a bird hoarder and she had lost her toes when she landed on the cage of a nesting lovebird. I've had a few other birds throughout my life, but she was the one I had the best relationship with. I remember she needed to bite onto my finger in order to step up safely. Although it hurt to be bit every time she stepped up, it was completely worth it because she was so sweet and cuddly. I really miss her and I think I still have one of her feathers.

The most part of my birds have problems: my green check conure have a little problem with his legs ( he was abandoned by his mother and father), one of my lovebirds is really small ( I love him, he is very smart!), another was a "gift" ( he had problem with his companions because the last owner put in the cade a nest for 365 days... now he is very cute and calm bird!). My cockatiels have problems: one have the results of a broken wing and his companion was abandoned and she had, from the last owner, a nest for 365 days... Birds are fragile wonderful creature. They needs space, good food and special vets. They often don' t show their pain and you see when it is so late. Every day is necessary check them with a critic eyes. The story of Schnee and Derpla are so delicate, I can't think how you love your birds, how you care them. I noticed many emotion in birds... when they loss their companion, when their companion are ill... I' m happy to see people like you that love so much birds. Thank you for your stories.

I have a serious question. I don’t know if i’m just paranoid but I feel like my bird has weird posture, He doesn’t stand up straight like I see most cockatiels do in pictures and videos, he leans very far forward all the time and i don’t know if it’s nothing i should be worrying about or if it is? I did take him to the avian but they said he was fine. Could it mean he’s depressed or something?

Having the flock there probably helped speed up the process a smidgen since he saw flockmates interact with you. I'd imagine the process would have been more grueling if he was a lone bird having to start from scratch, as he'd have no examples besides his own interactions and experience.

My baby bird is only seven weeks old. We were doing so well until he flew into the toilet. I immediately picked him up but he lost all trust. He won't come out of his cage and when I do get him out of his cage he will not move he's Frozen. So watching your video has given me hope. I will try to be patient and do the things you did. The Millet was his favorite and he won't touch it even if I just peel a piece off he's afraid to go to it. So I will continue to try

My 18 year old cockatiel flew into a ceiling fan the beginning of September and he’s blind in one eye now, I put him in a new cage 3 days ago I’m so worried because he doesn’t have the same trust in me as before Plus he hasn’t flown since because the vet clipped his wings, Will he be ok when he can fly again. (July my 15 year old dog died Archie loved that dog so that didn’t help).
