As a member of law enforcement for over 15 years, I have met Sergeants & Lieutenants who are just like Fancy. People don’t realize how important the middle ranks are in keeping officer’s together & motivated.

My father headed up the narcotics unit of our state’s bureau of investigations. When he retired, I saw grown men cry. They loved him. That’s when I truly knew what a good man he was along with being a damned good cop.

I liked how McDaniel portrayed Fancy. Despite his reasonable misgivings about Andy, when Sipowicz lost his gun during a beating, Fancy stepped in. He showed compassion and respect for his squad. A fine job of acting by McDaniel all around.

Despite his differences with Sippy, he told the new lieutenant that if someone he loved had died, he'd want Sipowicz on the case. No higher praise, and Fancy was a great man. It's amazing that this show had sooooo many character changes over the years, but still maintained it's greatness.

This show did such a wonderful job of making all the characters seem so real. No matter how many times I watch it, I feel as if I am watching a real police detective squad at work. Their work product appears real, the characters appear real, and the pride of being a NYPD officer appears real. This clip of Fancy talking about his parents felt like something a friend would tell you. And that is what all of these characters are. Our friends. I haven't felt like that about other TV shows. They are just actors. These guys, they are people you want as friends.
@brianwest27753 жыл бұрын
The characters are awesome but the interviews often get repetitive. Just wait for someone to be pushed up against the wall. They also only give the information that you need, which is sadly typical even of NCIS type shows. Not like the detective novels of yesteryear where you needed to pick out the relevant clues to solve it before they did.
@cubefarmerhkc91054 жыл бұрын
By far the best commander of the squad. He took care of his people. Esai Morales character was good too, but Arthur Fancy was just a good servant leader.

The way he portrayed that character being the boss was perfect. Firm but compassionate and new his people and took care of them.

All of that cast could really act...although again I thought that 'Andy' is very, very good- so believable. And, I just realised that the music, unique camera work & the lighting also had a major impact on this great scene. Could watch NYPD every evening!!

This show was one of few that you thought about while it was happening went to sleep thinking about what you watched woke up talking about it to you significant other about went to work and was the conversation topic everywhere. There isn’t a show on prime time or anywhere that could lap up the spilled coffee this show left behind. It had content, intent, sentiment, intimate, interracial, extramarital, extreme tragedies that would crush normal people. Sipowitz alone lost a son, Detective Simone, Danny, a wife, and his last partner. This show really did what the shows of today only wish they could.
