The first 3 seasons were hands down the best. Sadly by the last season it just felt tired

3:04 You see both perps reach into their waistband, giving Det. Simone just fractions of a second to react.

If that happened today, the police would have been accused of shooting two nice men who were helping a gentleman with directions 😂

When this show started it was basically a version of CSI Miami. Sipowicz was clearly a wingman who may or may not even survive the season. He wasn't handsome. He wasn't heroic. He was tough and he was loyal. He was basically the Archie Bunker of the show. By the end of the series he was clearly the main protagonist. I also thought it's very interesting watching how technology changed everything. You watched the first season and then you watched the last season and you can clearly see changes happening.

Got to strongly disagree with you . First of all, it was on years before CSI: Miami, so how could it be a version of a later show? Second, as far as Sipowicz being a wingman, when I started watching the show, sometime in the first season, after hearing all these raves about Caruso, I wondered what people were talking about? It was obvious, at least to me, that Andy was the tent pole character, and anyway, Denis Franz was more well known then David Caruso at that point, from his time on Hill Street Blues.

@@jerryx3253 since I watched CSI Miami before I ever watch NYPD Blue because I wasn't old enough when it came out, the similarities between the two characters played by the same actor were obvious. I am glad you were able to see that the constantly drunk, irascible Sipowitz who was a hair breadth away from being fired was going to be a more important character than his well respected alpha partner. I personally never saw it coming. Nonetheless, what an awesome character and what a wonderful actor.

My only issue with this scene, like most shows, movie, etc is that Jimmy Smits got to shoot them both. The fat cop and the other cop had the drop on the punks too. Smits could have taken punk 1 and the writers could have left punk 2 to the other cops. It bugs me when the leads get all the action.

Yeh Morrisey never seemed to get a frontline role in NYPD Blue and would have fitted In well with the squad.

No other cop shows past or present like TJ Hooker, In The Heat of The Night, Rookie Blue, The District, Chicago PD, NCIS, The Rookie, Hunter, Blue Bloods, The Shield, Homicide: Life on The Street or NCIS: Hawai'i came even close to that of NYPD Blue, period!!!
