NYPD Blue was always excellent, but never quite the same after Jimmy Smits left.

There was a hole. Dennis Franz was the rock. LT. Fancy was solid. But all the other people didn't quite mesh the way we were used to. Still a great show but if Franz had left, Goodbye NYPD Blue. Bochco knew it too. That's why he would never let him leave. Plus they loved each other and I love them both.

Jimmy Smits was great as Bobby Simone on NYPD Blue in his 4 year Career with the show it Definitely didn’t feel the same when he left same with David Caruso and also Nicolas Turturro.
@paulgraham8155Ай бұрын
Rick Shroeder as Det Danny Sorenson was weird. I think because he was replacing Jimmy Smits and it was a hard pill to swallow and when Mark-Paul Gossalaar came to the show he was replacing Shroeder not Smits and maybe that why I think he was more accepted. But David Caruso as Det John Kelly was by far the best. A lot of NYPD-BLUE fans can make argument that Smits was the best and they have real valid points. But Caruso was electric in the show.
@2034916Ай бұрын
@@paulgraham8155 I disagree. Smits was irreplaceable.. Caruso, as excellent as he was, did not have Smits’ warmth and appeal. Smits and Kim Delaney had such chemistry and appeal. Caruso was one-dimensional. When Jimmy left the series, it was never the same, albeit good. The original cast was just electric, with the wonderful Sharon Lawrence, Gail O’Grady, etc.
@paulgraham8155Ай бұрын
@@2034916 I 100 percent agree with everything you said and you forgot Simone and Sipowiz chemistry. But I am still going with David Caruso's John Kelly. He blew up the screen in that first season. Watching Kelly the interview room with a suspect was dynamite. Also said note I often wonder what it would look like if John Kelly and Bobby Simone were partners and I don't think it would ever work.

@@marcschneider4845 Well... it was a television show first of all Marc so its purpose was to entertain viewers. Also, if you paid close enough attention to the show it was evident that the good cops(Sipowicz, Kelly, Fancy, Simone, Medavoy, Martinez, Russell, Baldwin) only used drastic methods and and went outside the book when it was necessary to do so. But, they always knew where the line was and not to cross it.
