You know, I know that this is just a TV show, and these are just actors playing a role in a story. But out there in the real world, real cops, human beings, are being asked to live out heart wrenching scenes like this every day. I couldn't do it. Lot of respect for those who do.

Andy has sympathy, but I don't think he considered letting him walk. The man committed a murder, to assuage his own guilt over helping his father abuse his niece. He aided in one crime, then committed another that couldn't undo the harm he helped cause.

Yeah, nah, District Attorney would never want me on the jury of a case like this. Not Guilty! ADA: but he admits to murdering the guy. We have the murder weapon. His finger prints are on it. We have witnesses and CC video. Me: Not guilty.
@rogermurph1015 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if that went to trial, I’d definitely make it a hung jury. If I’m the cop taking that interview, the tape is getting lost and he’s out the door and told to keep his mouth shut.

@@partybusexperiance3289 Hmmm. Don't care about the law, most of which is just silly rules made up by people wanted to boss other people around. An oath though. I take those seriously. That's your word. I'd have to tell the judge and ADA during jury selection I wouldn't be able to convict this guy. I've never served on a jury... I have to see exactly what's involved in the oath.

@ianbrewer48433 жыл бұрын
Yes
@pullybungieharder2 жыл бұрын
This is why we can't permit cops to do exactly that. They can be played, and lied to, and they can get in the habit of "tuning a guy up" or "helping someone confince the judge of what really happened", and the fiction sets guilty people free and innocent people to jail. This old show showed that, and showed Andy doing just that to people who swayed him one way or the other. But it's not his job, and not his call. It's what judges and especially juries are for, but they can't make the right decisions if they don't get the facts.

I used to watch this with my old man but don't really remember anything. Sense Andy always broke the law by beating people up and getting confessions after they asked for a lawyer (which by law that confession can't be used in court) did Andy ever fix a statement and let someone go? This guy deserved to have them write this off as a case of self defense. Lie and say the dad attacked him when he confronted him. He isn't a danger to society and obviously not a vigilante. He did the right thing and killed a pedophile who prayed on his own family.

So maybe I'm wrong, I don't know if the laws are different in the state of New York, but doesn't the US allow justifiable homicide as a defence in court? All he'd have to do is get a public defender from the state (if he can't afford a lawyer), have his sister and niece testify to the grandfather's crimes (which is what the police were basically gonna do anyway), and he'd walk, maybe with an order to move from the state and not return. Which isn't the end of the world, cause if he's in NYC he could just move to New Jersey and not really uproot himself at all

Sounds like a case for Nullification if there ever was one . I can be open minded about crimes that are simple property crimes but this class ...... personal crimes are a WHOLE 'nother ball game . Obviously there are those who will not like my opinion that we should have a spot picked out behind the local courthouse so this garbage case will get resolved within two minutes and be over and done with but if they can have their opinion then I can have mine . NO reason to put children through a courtroom over this and recidivism is a word that should NEVER appear in connection with a case like this .
