Police sources told PIX 11 that after the Chief Of Police had a feisty exchange with a Brooklyn City Councilman about parking Monday, word has been spreading in the department to avoid questionable parking by NYPD officers.

If anything, to keep the city safe, they should probably not drive to work. They should take trains like everyone else. And if problems in the train ever occur, at least cops taking the trains to work will know what to do.

Maybe this is the wrong video...lol... but as a native New Yorker motorist, we need to be careful treading this issue, it's going to hurt the civilian who drives because this trickle down economics will bring about less parking or stricter parking rules if the intent is to stick it to the people. Yes, the parking situation and traffic can be bad, it's a populated city. More street parking, infrastructure eg. buildings w parking, lots, car lifts, (i'm sure there are more good ideas) should have been factored in 30 years ago. I see how some of the city agencies are utilizing the parking space near their offices, sites, etc. They're working with what is avaiable. much respect. Also under some of our cities elevated highway structures the space has been gutted or being gutted for city/public use. I see how this parking situation with the police bothers people living near a precient, yet again, parking is very limited. I think when law enforcement park on the sidewalks it helps too. I'm not sure about them searching for a parking space when responding to crime or on a break. Crime has to be fought! lol. I feel many of the drivers have evolved to be a little more intelligent. Now the bike lanes are another tough issue especially in Restler's district during daytime hours. There is no parking in site!! How can you not double park in the city?? Errands and business needs to be done nd the parking restrictions are no standing parking signs and limited parking for blocks. Handled wrongly, this will translate into less parking. Keep in mind to allow the everyday citizen to conduct business, run errands and keep these cars that allow them to be productive citizens. Parking is bad everywhere, i'd like to believe more parking is the answer as well as integrating parking into structures, build up. Also, to me, when alternate side parking rules are in effect, motorists tend to drive their cars around or drive to work, ??causing more traffic?? Lets be fair to everyone and find solutions and not shift blame eg. bad publicity, summons, towing cars. I'm sure there's a way to help solve this without hurting everyday motorists.

Let's talk about personal police cars getting what an officer I spoke to called a "Courtesy Pass" for parking all day in a NO STANDING area. I watched an officer walk down a row of cars that were all parked in the NO STANDING zone and he picked and chose who to give a $115.00 ticket to. He skipped over all the police owned personal vehicles, and gave each and every civilian car tickets (I'm not questioning that at all, wrong is wrong) But when i stopped him and asked why he did so, he said " I have to extend the courtesy to them as officers" #MustBeNice #NoOneIsAboveTheLaw

It's not just that the police precincts It's also personal cars on the streets. I've known people who complain about cars parked illegally in front of fire hydrants blocking crosswalks and got issue tickets but once there are plaque in the window or a vest they won't get a ticket and that's a problem. Rules are for everyone. It's illegal for anyone to park in front of a fire hydrant or crosswalk and the same goes for NYPD. Are the rules just for everyone else except PD.
