I agree that the song may as well be credited as "Justin Timberlake (featuring JC Chasez)", because I couldn't hear Joey, Chris, or Lance. They're voices were drowned out by Justin backing his own vocals and the autotune. 😕

From what other fans said Joey and Chris are easier to hear later in the song. I’ve heard some Lance fans say they heard him somewhere too lol

Lance can be heard on the choruses and singing along with JC before the second chorus, Chris accompanies Justin before the second chorus, and Joey can be heard much more in the final harmonies. Although Joey, Lance and Chris have good voices, they themselves recently clarified what their function was within Nsync, so I see no reason to say that it is a song only by JT and JC, there are the 5 of them and that it's great 😁

I really wish that people would just not use auto tune as much as they can. It dosent bother me when they do the odd pitch correction. For the sake of time. But like... when it's just super filtered n ur hearing the picth correction gargle. C'mon now. It's so prevalent now.

@@danthemanbardo I don't mind some sneaky, well executed manual pitch correction in protools, like was done in I want it that way, for example (there are some vocal stems floating around, of uncorrected outtakes from the alternate lyrics version of iwitw) - Back before BSB was exclusively powered by autotune. Better Place has too much, though. It's too compressed, and small sounding. When harmonies are autotuned hard, it takes away the humanity of the slightly off pitch here and there vocals, which makes harmonies sound huge.

I agree with you the song is catching and JC sounds great as usual but I was hoping we'd at least hear Joey get a solo as well. I was also hoping we'd get the classic NSYNC harmonies which I didn't hear (at the end I can hear a 4 part harmony & was wondering if there was a 5th part🤔). I'm surprised cause from what I recall, Justin does stack his harmonies a lot for his solo music. Either they didn't sing enough harmony stacks or they did and those vocals were buried underneath the production (which imo has been an issue with mainstream music). They also didn't need the autotune. I also agree that if they don't wanna tour I would settle for music hear and there, maybe even an EP but they need to work with producers/engineers who are gonna make sure their voices can be heard above the instrumentation...

yeah. even released something on the side and treat it like a side project. no problem at least they are contributing to the nsync catalogue or sorts,

@@danthemanbardo Agreed and now that I'm thinking about it, i think they should've released two versions of the song. Since Justin is attached to the movie release his version first and then surprise everyone with an NSYNC accurate version when the soundtrack drops.

The best examples of their 5 part acapella harmonies can be found with their song “I Thought She Knew” (arranged by vocal coach Robin Wiley who was the * of *Nsync) NSYNC’s version of “O Holy Night” is very chillingly beautiful too! Also their harmonies on The Bee Gees is very fun to listen to as well!

P.S There is a video for the song ″Dancing On The Ceiling″, from Lionel Richie that used the same rotating set technology from the ″Bye Bye Bye″ video from NSYNC. Funny enough, there is a moment in the video, where Lionel Richie does, for a short time, a very reminiscent fist in the air signature move like in NSYNC's epic choreography. I wonder if this is how Darrin Henson had the inspiration for the Bye Bye Bye video with NSYNC.

Absolutely agree! Thank you for an honest review! Too many Nsync fans or Justin Timberlake fans just take this song for what it is and immediately say it’s great or “modern” Nsync simply because they just miss them too much! And too many people only know them through their hit dance singles anyways! I too felt like this was a Maroon 5 or Jonas Brothers song and NOT real Nsync song! The over production and high reliance on Autotune was annoying and killed the song for me. At first I thought that perhaps this song was geared towards making it appealing for a kid’s movie. After listening and analyzing all the layered vocal tracks I came to realize it has nothing to do with that! I honestly believe this song is heavily autotuned because Justin’s voice has heavily deteriorated and he can no longer harmonize properly with the other guys or even sing well anymore! Justin’s voice was already the most fragile and weakest in comparison to the other 4 members. Just because the average listener never heard the others sing lead, doesn’t mean their voices suck or that they had weak vocals! Critical things missing in this song that is ALWAYS present in a true Nsync song are: 1) Full body harmonies in the chorus. Justin’s vocal tracks on the chorus are WAY too loud! ****Nsync is supposed to be a 5 Part Harmony Vocal Group: -Chris (Counter Tenor) -JC (Spinto/ Lyric Tenor) -Justin (Second Tenor) -Joey (Baritone) -Lance (Bass) Those true complete 5 part harmonies is WHAT MADE Nsync standout from all the other boybands! 2) Drowning out JC’s infamous vocal runs/ adlibs (with Justin’s very loud chorus tracks) would NEVER happen for any true Nsync Song! When he goes on his vocal runs, a true Nsync song would feature harmonies supporting JC’s runs & NOT another Lead vocal cutting him off! Is Justin Timberlake really THAT insecure about how fans are always talking about how much they miss JC’s vocals over his own? Seriously? GET OVER IT! You won okay? They (the label & the elites) picked YOU over JC. You already got more money than all the other guys combined and fame to boot, so does it really matter THAT much when people point out that JC is better than you in every way? Or how much fans miss seeing JC? If Justin was really interested in redemption and to clean up his image with a fresh new start, this heavy handed egotistical song ISN’T the way to go about it! People are already sick of Justin and as a fast burn artist, his gimmicks as an entertainer can only take him so far, especially as he continues to age out! Instead of taking more for yourself, how about giving more to the other guys? This is nothing more than an attempt to use the Nsync card to garner interest back onto himself!

Justin is not in the wrong here, yes it may be not what we wanted, but its his project, and the reunion was only possible because of him. Instead of calling him throwing every insult at him, have some appreciation for his efforts.

He's trying so hard to redeem it back from failure using his former band. All I freaking hear in the chorus is his falsetto and nothing more 👎🏻

Agree, buddy. Musically, just sterile, but not awful. I, too, found the autotune obtrusive in this one. It doesn't even try to be subtle. In your words, though, let's revel in the fact that they're back together at all.

I agree with your review, was hoping for a more thoughtful song/production where each member could shine, at least a little. Lance, Joey & Chris are so buried here under layers of filters. It’s catchy as hell tho, that’s for sure. I’m enjoying it as it’s own thing but if I try to place it into the context of NSYNC as a whole and as ultra fans know them, I feel a lil disappointed. I’m happy the song is performing well and getting good press so far. I hope that means there will be more to come 🤞
