My Mom was an ICU nurse in Canada we both just sat through this and cried. I don't know what else to say except thank you. You've made something timeless and special here. I was wondering - how many other physicians did you interview other than just the one featured in the short film? How long did the nurses wear the cameras for?

@@yasminomran6720 I am in Arizona. I think it was perfect that chose AZ. Like he said, at one point we had the highest cases in the WORLD. And there were mass gatherings of people protesting NOT to wear a mask. They fight with store owners/workers about having to wear a mask. Just yesterday, while my cousin was ringing up a customer at her store, that same customer told her that they should disinfect the store because that same customer HAS covid.. many people here don't care..

I think about the medical staff working not just in our country but across the world all the time. Thankfully most of my family on both sides of the family got vaccinated as soon as we could after watching both my Aunt and Grandmother die late last year from Covid. I do my best to share my family's experience to people who are on the fence in the hopes it will help them decide to get the vaccine. I don't want anyone else to go through 81 days of suffering like my Grandma did. The nurses though were wonderful the entire time and I wish this would stop so you can all get some rest.

Honestly that is the scariest, and saddest, part of this whole mess. People dying away from the people they love, and often times they are not allowed to have a traditional funeral with family in attendance. I'm not a religious person, but I do understand the importance of closure, for the departed and their families. Not being there when they pass, not have a proper send off, there's no closure which I can't help but think that causes a lot of unfinished business which can prevent a spirit from moving on, to whatever afterlife they believe in.

My father Inlaw passed 4/24/21 from covid, he went into full cardiac arrest 2x and was rushed to the hospital. He was smart he called 911 on himself for chest pains so once ambulance arrived he was already coded, 6 epinephrine were used to jump his heart. Once arrived he coded again and shortly after that he was brain dead. A nurse held my father In-laws hand as he passed away once my husband made decision to pull support off him. I did get to speak to this nurse and thank her so much, you really don’t know what a nurse goes through.

Not only after the pandemic is “over,” we needed it from the beginning to prevent getting so burnt out that we lose the ability to function or care. Now that most places have adequate PPE, it’s a great time for hospital administrations to focus on the mental health of their bedside staff. Better late than never.

I spent 3 weeks in a coma on a ventilator here in Melbourne Australia with covid. A further 4 weeks in rehab learning how to walk again. There are no sufficient words to describe the appreciation I have for the nurses, doctors, nurses, janitors, nurses, allied health workers and nurses who cared for me and helped bring me back to life. Incredible people.

I was for two weeks in an ICU with Covid-19 in Berlin, Germany and can testify to how hard and selflessly these people work -- all of them; nurses, nurse assistants, cleaning crews, doctors, physical therapists, psychologists; all of them. It is amazing. I am very thankful to all of them for keeping me alive and as comfortable as possible in very difficult circumstances. Thank you for making this video.

There were several videos where people made PPE at home using the right patterns and materials and donated it. Check with your local hospital to see what they need.

@@MsKillerdx Generally speaking doctors DON'T instruct nursing staff. They're not around to do so. Most wouldn't dare. Doctors spend less than 3 minutes with each patient on rounds. They have no idea who the patient is, what their issues are or what treatment has already been given. The vast majority of clinical care is decided and provided by senior nursing staff. The average surgeon can't even draw blood. They come in, cut, and don't even stitch. When they come to see your afterwards they take recommendations from nursing staff regrading pain management, antibiotic use and after care. They're not around long enough to know how much pain you're in, what your movement is like or how you will cope at home. Only once, in all the many, many times, my life has been saved has it ever been a doctor who did the saving. A blue code is called and it's nurses on the floor who spring into action. Doctors get paged and eventually show up, but it's the nurse straddling you pumping your heart, putting a mainline into your chest and saving your life. Not the doctor. S/he would struggle to get lines in quickly because that's not what they do. They work on a macro level, not a practical one. Look at any ICU and you'll see a world run by nurses. Need something? Ask a nurse. Want an explanation regarding something? Ask a nurse. Need some practical care? Ask a nurse. I don't know what kind of experience you've had in hospitals, but clearly it's very limited. Watch less tv. That's not how hospitals work. There simply aren't enough doctors available for them to run the place. Most wards get two visits a day, if they're lucky. The rest of the time it's nurses who run the show. Without them the place would grind to a sharp stop and patients would die. You seem to believe that nurses are uneducated, that they don't understand medicine. This couldn't be further from the truth. Nurses have vastly more experience and practical knowledge than doctors. They work across multiple wards and specialties. They can do most of what doctors can do, and a great deal more besides, dealing with issues from head to toe. In some countries nurses even prescribe medications more frequently than doctors, because they can actually see what's going on where doctors can't. If I had to choose who I got all my care from besides actual surgery (and even sometimes then) I'd choose nurses every time. They're knowledgeable, highly skilled and far more useful than a doctor who only treats one part of a patient. It's attitudes like yours that denigrate the profession, treating nurses as if they're there only to wipe backsides and mop up vomit. It's those beliefs that lead to the chronic underpayment of nursing staff and drives experienced, capable medical personal to leave the profession. This is why hospitals are constantly searching for new nurses and can't find any, leading to patient deaths. You completely fail to understand the roles filled by doctors and nurses, nor how the modern medical profession works. This is not 1940, when nurses said "yes doctor" to everything he said and only spoke when spoken to. That's not how modern hospitals operate. They simply can't do that anymore. There aren't enough doctors or nurses to maintain that system. Only someone who enjoys good health and has never faced a medical crisis could still hold such outdated and backward beliefs regarding the roles of modern nursing.

I am a nurse, and I personally want to say Thank you for making this documentary. The narrarator and producers truly grasped the true emotion and trauma that we went through during the covid crisis. This brought me to tears and sadly quickly reminded me of the emotional and physical stress we endured. Although I am not an ICU nurse, when I had to send my patients to the ICU due to respiratory decline, I knew that most would not come out alive and would rarely come back to our floor. This moment in time is something that has forever changed us.

(edit: our schools opened only one week ago and I know 3 of them already closed for a few weeks due to the insane amount of covid cases the students and staff were getting.) I don't understand why people won't get the vaccine or at LEAST wear their masks. Wait- yeah I do. It's because they think it means they're betraying their party's beliefs and are too proud to admit they were wrong, but that doesn't matter! They should realize they are in a literal pandemic, and just like all the other pandemics in history, they should know vaccines and wearing masks DOES work. It's because of these people that our cases are higher than they've ever been this ENTIRE freaking pandemic. EVER. I often look around and see people saying the pandemic isn't a big deal, that masks don't work. A doctor told someone I know that had covid she could and should go to Disney with covid! They say this when our hospitals have no more room due to being filled with covid patients, and they don't even wear masks! That's why it appears to "not work", because they don't wear them and then new cases happen. It's quite frankly idiotic. I always get so riled up by people like you because you ignore the truth and try to hide it by claiming it's a sheeple thing when in reality it's just science and common knowledge. You along with other people equate our concerns to fear, which isn't the same thing. Concern turns into action to better the situation while fear pushes it away, so I'd say people that don't want to acknowledge the damage done by the pandemic and the damage they add to it due to their dismissal of it's existence, fear. or just blatant purposeful ignorance. I don't care if you aren't seeing the major impacts in your community, it IS getting worse and it's all because of people that are either too lazy or too proud to do anything about it. I know I wrote a lot, but I'm sick and tired of people writing lame excuses to ignore a very obvious situation that needs collective action to stop it. I'm tired of picking up my community's slack because of their beliefs against masks and vaccines. It sucks. But it sucks even more that the only ones who can truly make it better is people like you. The ones that won't change their minds no matter what because of the media, misguided friends, and other misinformation they indulge themselves in. I hope you understand one day the pain and damage the pandemic has caused, especially from the people who ignored it's existence.

My ICU gets 10 transfers a day from long term care homes during flu season. 70% of the people who come in with the flu from long term care don’t recover and never leave. The underpaid and overworked issue needs to be addressed. The fact that they can't even take proper breaks, eat lunch, or even drink water just isn't right. And I hope this short docu can open people's eyes to what nurses really go through. Not to mention the power struggle within certain facilities--sometimes making the decision to overwork the best nurse because others feel uncomfortable in a covid zone, lots of unjust situations that add more stress on top of this pandemic. My heart goes to not only ICU nurses but all brave nurses that are dealing with such a devastating situation. They have already “control” their boarder long ago. They only allow certain traveler which has important reason to enter. However, be it the root of infection is the traveller but if the US has strict mandate rules about wearing a mask and safe distancing, the cases in US Wouldn’t been so worse.

The rest of us need to get on with our lives, mask-free. COVID is 99.7% SURVIVABLE and I know that there's a certain portion of the mask-wearing population that does not want to hear this EVEN THOUGH IT IS GOOD NEWS. This statistic comes right off the CDC and WHO websites. From the .gov website, the death toll for 2020 was less or just under par with 2019 and 2018. i was in ICU with covid for 4 days in March 2020. the room was made of Glass cabins placed in a circle around the nursing post in the middle. Remember how we patients where looking at each other and I’m quite sure they thought the same I did.. who of us will die and who will live? When The nurse finally pushed my bed out of the ICU, I remember a old patient smiling at me and waving me goodbye. Will never forget that smile. Really hope he did survive as well..

Every employee of the hospital he was in gave him a standing ovation when he was wheeled out to come home, because for those as sick as he was, that's rare. He's recovered and back to work in an icu. I’m seeing a lot of comments that don’t seem to realize the full scope of what these nurses have to do. There is a reason why ICU nurses work with one patient exclusively. First, these patients aren’t stable, they need around the clock meds and care to keep their vitals in a normal range. The tubing needs to be changed frequently based on med compatibility, IV lines need to be patent and free of infection, and nurses have to constantly administer medication while knowing what side effects to recognize and possible adverse reactions. On top of this they have to help with bowel care, skin care, and overall cleanliness. In addition, patients on a vent can’t feed themselves so nurses have to give either tube feedings or IV feedings. This whole time, the nurse is doing preventative care for pressure sores and constantly updating the doctor regarding changes in the patient and how they are responding to the medications. And of course they are charting every single interaction with the patient. This is everything a nurse has to do with just one patient, I cannot imagine the stress these nurses are going through taking care of 3 at one time. There is so much care that patients in the ICU need and the least we can do for these nurses taking care of them is to do our part; wear masks, get vaccinated, and avoid large gatherings. Edit: I didn’t even mention respiratory care because that is whole other bag of worms I don’t even want to touch. It is way too complicated for me to even attempt to explain.

I am an RN who has been doing Covid duty for the last year, ICU and Stepdown This is the most accurate documentation and commentary I've seen of the typical goings-on over a couple day period so if you are wondering what it's like, look no farther. I was separated from my wife and 1.5 year old son for three months in the first half of 2020. It is tough work but I personally wouldn't change a thing. After being a father, being a nurse is the thing in my life I am most proud of and the most important aspect of my identity. I hear you. Step down here too. Got covid during my pregnancy and unknowingly gave it to my 1 year old. My husband was deployed at the time but contracted it overseas. I’m back at work now but dealing with all of this while dealing with the after math of covid symptoms has been brutal. This documentary was so accurate I haven’t stopped thinking about it. This last year has been so devastating. And we are the lucky ones. I’ve unfortunately lost some coworkers too soon because they contracted it while working and unfortunately lost their battle. The people saying that “yeah people die every day” either don’t have kids or don’t have loved ones that have been affected. Ignorance is stronger than ever. So sad.

There has been great research in the use of microdosing psilocybin (magic mushrooms), as well as controlled dosages of ecstacy (trails being done with soldiers with ptsd). Please do look into trying both of these things. I have first had experience to their efficacy.

This barely scratches the surface. The exhaustion, the frustration, the anger, the sadness. Not only for the staff at the bedside, but the leaders fighting for supplies and watching their staff walk away. I work with new graduate nurses and this year has by far been the most traumatic and difficult for them. Even in school their hours for clinical are slashed to save burden on PPE supplies and tired preceptor nurses. They are starting fast, running hard, and learning as they go. And then you go home, take a shower, hug your family, and then read up on friends going on trips, going to weddings, having date nights after you have been home for 365 days with no break and you just scream and cry yourself to sleep.

Nurses like these helped save my life when I was dying from Covid. I was one of the lucky ones that was able to pull through because of ECMO, but I am forever changed. Everyone should have to watch this video. I have been curious about what I went through when I was out, and what the nurses went through who were taking care of me. I will be forever grateful. I worked in a Covid ward from April 1 - May 17. This portrayal is 100% accurate. The nurses supporting each other, the long hours, the zoom calls, the patients being turned, promising families you’ll hold their loved one’s hand as they pass...the fear in the patients’ eyes, and not having their family member(s) there to ease them. My role was to monitor each patients’ hearts and oxygen saturation, and keep the nurses updated while they were with another patient. I attended many deaths.

I’m not an ITU nurse but have been a nurse on the wards during this pandemic. It is so hard to watch so many people pass in such quick succession. One of the patients that I looked after on the day they died had already been on my ward for 3.5 months and I absolutely adored her (we all did) and it felt like I was losing a family member. I then had to wash her body and within ten minutes of her leaving for the morgue there was a new patient within her bed. One day I had three patients die in one shift. I feel lucky in a way that all of my patients who did pass were not for resuscitation/escalation to critical care (it was decided ahead of time that it would not be in their best interest to intubate them.) I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to do so much for a patient and for it to amount to nothing because they’re just not strong enough to fight it. It’s heartbreaking to look upon the face of anyone who is dying. But the face of someone who has been tubed and sedated makes it even worse somehow. I watch these videos and realise I’m just not strong enough to face this day in, day out. Thank you so much to all the ITU nurses. You’re doing such an amazing job!!!

We had a COVID death in our family and the nurses talk to us and called us like he was the only patient they were caring for. We knew they were running around busy but when they were communicating with us, we had their undivided attention, compassion, and care. They made us have some level of solace in the most difficult situations.
