Weaver had good velocity, BUUUUT he was SO lucky he got 3-4 strike calls that weren’t strikes, and lost control. Shades of Holmes without the loss. Gil pitched like he wants to start behind Cole in the playoffs.

Yeah, hopefully that was just the excitement/extra adrenaline of being new in the closer role. Hopefully he gets more used to it and adapts as we go forward. The ump was a huge ally, as were the Cubs hitters who swung at several pitches out of the zone.

We need a closer that locks in under pressure. Not just the guy with the best stuff. Holmes was our closer because of how good we was in that stretch last year and because he has the best stuff on the staff.. but I want clutch. Someone that rises to the occasion instead of collapsing. I think cousins might be the guy for the job
