I don't believe denying people from attending a funeral is illegal. These are supposed gang members attending in a high number. What do you expect the government to do? I'm not familiar with how those gangs operate there in NZ but based on the footage here i'd say they seem willing to abide by the laws and as the one being buried points out, they do get detained and locked up when they break the law. I'm not saying the guy deserved to die, im just using him being locked up as an example that they aren't above the law. The question that seems most appropriate for this comment section imo seems to be, should the government Impede on the people (Who haven't broken the law) attending the funeral's civil rights and deny them from attending a funeral legally or set up road blocks to prevent innocent civilians from coming into contact with people they deem as dangerous to society only through the speculation of gang affiliation? The only thing I would criticize the police for is letting them do burnouts (unless burnouts aren't illegal in that specific area and time). I see no need to clown the police force in that area for the way they handled that, they did the best they could imo and only now that that is over they can focus on what to do moving on. Possibly gathering info on who attended the funeral and running background checks on them to see if they can connect them with any past crimes leading to individual arrests rather than confronting hundreds of their supporters.

This seems like a peaceful way to display a message at a terrible time for this family. It could have been sent much more aggressively but there were no guns, this is not America. Fully respect the fact these people came quietly and investigate the death AND find the right outcome.
