Thanks for the video. The most challenging part for me was removing the bearing, I don’t have the pliers, but I could get a good hold of it with a piece of cloth and eventually took it out. After greasing the bearing up a bit it started working again, we’ll see for how long. Thanks once again.

@@science_exam I really appreciate repair videos like this one as it is terrible for the environment and so wasteful to throw out something that can easily be fixed. But: My bucket does not have a bearing at all. Yet it worked for 13 months. I wondered if it had slipped off unnoticed while I was taking it apart. Maybe it hit the floor and bounced into the furnace grate so fast I didn't see or hear it. (It is true the lighting could be better; I wish I had a brightly lit worktable!) Either that is what happened or I'm losing my mind--but it's hard to believe it was that fast and quiet and the aim to the grate was exact, like it was a comedy show! There is only a plastic housing underneath that gear, which is one piece with the entire foot pedal section, and the turn shaft (spindle--whatever it is called) itself, which comes down from the (upright) basket, goes through a hole in the gear just as in your video, and rests in that little plastic cup, which is fixed/has no movement. I thought at first it was the bearing stuck at the bottom. I tried to remove it with pliers, but in brighter light it is clearly gray plastic and there is no bearing. Did the design change? On the bottom of that gear is a shallow groove which fits over the edge of the plastic housing (really just an elevated rim) and presumably turns on it like and old-fashioned grist mill. So should I assume it MUST have had one, that I lost it instantly, and just order a new one?...Or could it be there isn't one in my model (which I bought in early 2021)?

I will leave my question up in case anyone else has the problem I had--I just discovered the bearing is so coated with rust that even a thorough cleaning of the piece did not reveal it to be metal, and therefore it looked like rust stain on the inside of the plastic gear. I had watched this original video and did not realize it was built into the gear center instead of being a lose piece that could get stuck to the turn shaft as it did in this video. I watched the second video, which showed the bearing in its original place, so I then knew where to look. Now I have to find a way to pop it out--we'll see what Liquid Wrench can do, because my hands are not strong and it's not budging with a screwdriver. But what I said about design changes still is quite true. P.S. Don't use bleach in your bucket if you tend to let the bucket sit for a few hours at a time as I do, as that accelerates rust dramatically as it did to my bearing.

I thought the problem with my spin mop was the bearing but I found that the bearing had actually worn the shaft to such an extent that the bearing was slipping. I cut off the old shaft at the worn point and welded a new piece in its place. I also replaced the bearing at the same time. Vileda mop brand.

They changed the design on mine, so now it is much harder to fix… I need like a socket wrench with a Philips head to get into the space I need to get into to fix this. There’s two more screws now, under the part you unscrewed, in the space you put your foot. There is only an inch of space or so you get at those other two screws.. 😩

I think it's not just replacing the bearing that's the problem, mine's plastic gear often deviates from the rail. And you have to replace 1 unit of magic mop pedal gear. Understandably, it's a product that is easily damaged and buy it again. What do we expect from gears made of plastic that can be used to work for a long time? It is better to buy a magic mop without a pedal, because if it breaks it is very difficult to find a replacement. It's different if you buy the rotating mop handle... Many of them are sold in shops

Mine does not snap right off... there is a grey plastic guard holding the gears in place... I cannot remove the panel from the bottom :(

Be careful if it has a guard. The smaller gear houses the bearing and you have to be gentle in removing it.

@@nataleeparkes7878 It is not damaged. The pedal will be stuck in a downward position if the bearing itself is stuck. Once you take off the bearing and release it, then it will be good again.

If the bucket isn’t spinning freely after pushing in the pedal. Remove the bottom and lube the bearing and make sure there are no objects holding it

But I do see that the design changes in small ways form time to time, and since the goal of O'Cedar is to make us buy more mop buckets, it stands to reason that they will make minor design changes which will make it hard for novices to fix and will make a good video non-applicable to their bucket....even though the bucket looks very very similar! I've noticed, for example, that appliances with lids like a coffeemaker or a crockpot may change shape or size JUST enough so that the lids aren't interchangeable. It becomes easier to buy another entire cook pot than to find and order a replacement. It used to be you could go to any thrift store and find replacement lids for such things, including over-safe glass, etc. You could buy a non-working appliance and fix yours with the parts. That's rare these days....

@@myfirstnamemylastname2994 I was just looking in the comments bc I was wondering what my problem is, and I was thinking it was a design change to prevent this very thing. I’d say that is almost definitely the case. They have now added an extra plastic bar that fastens this down with two more Philips screws. These screws are hard to reach/require a very short Philips screwdriver, and another tool to hold it steady enough and to get enough leverage to unscrew, bc they are placed under the space where you push the pedal. There is only an inch of space to get a screwdriver into the space. I’m wondering is there something like a socket wrench that utilizes a Philips screwdriver head? If not, this may not be possible. I am trying to come up with a way to do it. Bastards at the company are one step ahead!

Whats with the irritating music? You can barely hear the guy talking. As for the bucket... I'm saying this loud and clear... Ya see the lever pedal?? Thats the original design. DO NOT GET THE VERSION WITH THE GRIP LOOKING HANDLE, SOLD AT PLACES LIKE DOLLAR GENERAL, FAMILY DOLLAR, BIG LOT, etc.. ALSO BY O'CEDER. For whatever reason the gear box in these models wear out in no time. And I mean gear teeth break or it starts slipping, it just stops working. It is not the same quality as the version with the solid square pedal as seen in the video here.
