I had a 23' O'Day. It was a 1974 and I had it docked at the Naval Base in Newport. I sailed it around the Narragansett Bay for four years. Mine was one of the few "Lift Tops" made.

She sold to a wonderful family this month. I hope she has many sunny days of fun sailing with her new crew.

Great video. How do you stabilize the picture? Software?

This was actually taken with my phone and no stabilization effects. It was pretty calm.

Good stuff! I was wondering if you ever got to try the autopilot out in heavier conditions(choppy, maybe a reef in the main)? I have a 74 Oday23 and was considering an autopilot. Thanks

The autopilot worked well in everything but a heavy trailing sea. It couldn't "anticipate" necessary rudder movements like a human can and was always a few seconds late to react. In light winds, with balanced sails, and under power it was priceless. I miss it so much that autopilot is definitely on the list of upgrades I plan to make to the Sierra Mist this winter (along with hydraulic steering).

That makes alot of sense and running is not my boats favorite point of sail. Thanks for the response, enjoy the Sierra Mist!

+Blue Eyed Sailor auto pilots work great reaching in moderate wind and motor sailing. not good in a following sea. too slow.a great tool for beer drinking weather.

Thanks! She's an older boat but she's safe and steady in Buzzards bay's chop. Perfect for casual cruising to pass the time or to cruise across the bay in comfort....
