Fascinating - half a century since I've been there for a Christmas concert. I was in the choir and one year (it might have been 1966) we were outside waiting for the end of the orchestral rehearsal. Eventually someone (a male voice) with perfect pitch started Oh Why Are We Waiting (to the tune of Oh Come All Ye Faithful). Within a bar we had all joined in, in four-part harmony. I will never forget that moment.Bert Jenkins/Chem Eng 1967/Picton, Ontario, Canada

Re: "Oh Why Are We Waiting": I like parodies! I write lots of parody lyrics to FOREST GREEN, it's the best melody ever composed.

I might have commented on this previously and if so please forgive me. For me, this defines the word WONDERFUL. I was born in 1953 and am now 70. I began singing in church choirs at age 4 and it continued through most of my life. I was one of the first two singers from my high school to make the Texas All-State Choir. I was awarded a voice faculty scholarship to the University of Texas at Austin and sang from my Freshman year in the A Capella Choir. In later years, I was a Bass II in the San Francisco Symphony Chorus and then in the Dallas Symphony Chorus. And I sang in church choirs for all of that time. I don't sing anywhere today, even though I still could. This performance brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. Just looking at all the wonderful young singers and the love of singing that you can see on the faces of everyone is overwhelming. And the organ registration is amazing (I was also a pianist, organist, and French Horn player). The balance between choir and organ could not be more perfect. Ralph Vaughan Williams is my all-time favorite composer and this arrangement of Forest Green is sublime. I just don't know what more that I can say other than THANK YOU!. THANK YOU!

I don't even like this song sung in this tune. I remember, as a child, I knew one Christmas song that was sung in two different tunes. I don't think it was this one. I assume this must be Birmingham in the UK?

I remember now: it was "away in a manger" that I could tolerate in either tune.❤
