Horatius Bonar was a Scottish clergyman - five of their young children died in succession, and yet he could still write these awesome comforting words. In Heaven we will meet Horatius Bonar.

I did not know his story. How incredibly heart wrenching his experience on this earth was. From the lyrics, one can deduce that he survived because of the love he wrote about. I would love to meet him, with all of his lost children, in heaven also! What an amazing God!

Our faith is filled with stories like that, which is also, why the prosperity "gospel" falls flat on it's ugly face: We have no promise of smooth sailing in this life, and for most faithful believers, that sure were not the experience either. Not mine either, by the way. But, we got the greater promise: To be sealed with the Holy Spirit within us until the day of redemption, already spiritually seated in Heaven with our Lord and Saviour, with whom we will spend eternity in presence of His love!

God sure loves this hymn. He keeps bringing me back to it. He is blessing me as I sing along and learn it. He is teaching me to rest in Him, no matter what. “But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.”
