O Pramateftis - Life and times in Heraklion Crete 1961

O Pramateftis. While this video clip is more the life and times of Heraklion, Crete, in 1961, it does tell a story that Mountaki so eloquently tells in this story of the poor peddler. You will see peddlers selling their wares at or near the Agora. I just love the shot of the traffic cop.
Anthony Sooklaris so keenly captures the moment in this amazing footage of what life was like. Make sure to catch the traffic cop. It's a classic solution to a then "new" problem of how to deal with more cars on streets that were once more populated by horses and donkeys, than by motor vehicles.
It was a more simple life, and it will no doubt remind us of fond memories of this most precious past.
You'll see landmarks like Eleftherioiu Square and the Morosini fountain.

My father shot all of this video on our family trip to Greece. We were part of an excursion along with the Pancretan of America. We all arrived in Crete on the Queen Frederica that sailed from New York City in May, 1961.

Beautiful footage of crete. Cant believe its 60 years. I visited crete only recently .it has the most special.place in my heart .my husband who.passed spent a lot of time there in the 70s

From what I have been able to understand...... The life of a poor and lonely wanderer who sells little material trinkets but who has lost his life's love and now wanders from town to town looking for her...."like a deserted fledgeling I walk the earth...take all my trinkets if you want them, if you would only find me the one I love and lost" ......the essence of life itself....

I haven't born at this time. Where do you find all those old amateur films from Crete. I grew up in Chania late 60's and 70's and then in Heraklion at the High School. I remember all those figures that funk333 says.
