I get soooo much enjoyment in listening to Doug and Chris and Mr. Garry just bringing this hollowed ground to LIFE!!! And educating us History lovers in supporting The American Battlefield Trust in all it does!. Garry and Chris and Doug and Sarah does to let this to never be forgotten of what it took for those 3 days to give it a snap shot of what it must have been like there! Because of them and both of my Gr-Gr-Grandpa's were there fighting on both sides was the reason I came to Gettysburg and got to see and walk the grounds and visit the 7th New Jersey Monument for one of my Grandpa's and then to the 2nd Appomattox Raiders Calvary Plaque for my other Grandpa! Thanks everyone so much! Cause I will be back and I'll back The American Battlefield Trust!

Very happy that you ended your video on the 11th monument. My reenacting unit used to take care of the monument for the NPS but they shut that program down during COVID. So now it looks the way it does, all eroded and no grass. But it shows how many people want to come see Sally Ann Jarrett!

Very nice! I'd love to be there today and walk the ground of a local regiment for me, the 157th NY, where they were sacrificed to Dole's brigade and were mowed down "like daisies before the scythe."

I enjoyed Doug Doud's comments re the 16th Maine. There is a wonderful large oil painting of Col. Titlon in the 4th floor of the Maine State House. While working there if I was having a bad day I would go look at Col. Tilton's painting and remember his day on July 1. Suddenly mine wouldn't seem so bad.

I have two ancestors who were in the 16th Maine. On July 1 one was on "detached service" as a teamster and the other was on "detached service" as a pioneer. While I don't know exactly what either wsa exactly doing that day, both are on the regiment's roll for the battle, but neither are on the casualty report for Gettysburg. They (and I) were very lucky.

7:03 Interesting observations. The years between the end of the American Revolution and the start of the Civil War: 1861 - 1783 = 78 years. The years between the end of the Civil War and the start of World War II: 1939 - 1865 = 74 years. The years between the end of World War II and now: 2024 - 1945 = 79 years.

The 12th MA was commanded by Cpt. David Allen Jr. from my hometown Gloucester, MA. Wounded at Antietam and Fredericksburg he was promoted after Col. Bates went down and commanded at Gettysburg, later joining the staff of Brig. General Robinson and being mortally wounded in the Wilderness.

Civil war veterans lived to see atomic weapons I've always found that a sobering thought essentially these men start the war fight wars the way they had since the 1600s Napoleonic warfare and lived to see nuclear weapons destruction in one lifetime
