They suggest, but say it's not required to get their craft kit to go with the preschool curriculum. I do not recommend TGTB for any content area. They are not systematic and explicit, do not adhere to current research and best practices, and leave many kids confused and struggling down the road.

Do you need the books that come with the kit or is the preschool play book enough on its own?

No, you do not need to buy the books with the kit. You can always check them out from your library if you want them.

We used OM Preschool for much of this year. It's a great program for a very gentle preschool approach. I think it's best suited for a family that wants some ideas for what they could be reading/doing with their preschooler but not necessarily wanting a "on monday, read this book; on tuesday, make this craft" approach.

It's not laid out in a weekly/daily schedule like some other programs.

LOL. I just checked the amount it cost to get the curriculum and to my surprise it is outrageously priced. And by outrageously I mean absolutely outrageous pricing. I can't even believe that someone would charge that much for any grade level. I saw amounts from $450 to $650 It's wrong to even do a review LOL. I would NEVER encourage anyone to invest in this.

Outrageous? The preschool package shown is only $151 which includes all the books and the music. If you do the curricula for a school year with the summer off, that’s literally $15 a month for a beautiful guide to help you educate your child. I can’t think of a better value! Let’s look at 5th grade, a more serious grade level that all parents could use guidance in. It’s $750 for math, history, English language arts, and science, and a teacher manual and includes 11 literature books. That’s $75 a month for a enriching eduction! Again, so much value for that price. Have you even used it? How could you discourage someone from using something if you don’t even know what it’s like or the type of education kids get from using it? Let alone disparaging this mom from reviewing it! Just because you can’t afford something, doesn’t mean you should degrade it and the people who have been able to save for it. Maybe you will be lucky enough to come upon a reasonably priced used copy (lots of people sell theirs for half off once finished with the level!) and you can try it for yourself before steering people away.

Hi, welcome. The OM Preschool Guide is $75. Preschoolers do not need a laid out program. Some parents prefer that layout, but it's not a requirement. Oak Meadow is a comprehensive program that has been around for many years. You can usually find OM secondhand for about 50% the bookstore listings. That said, I will not tolerate slamming of programs or shaming homeschool families for the decisions they make in this space. Homeschooling is a privilege. Can families homeschool on a budget? Absolutely, and I share many budget-friendly options and help folks out via email and in DMs on Instagram. Quality, evidence-based curriculum is not cheap. Spending $1000+ a year on curriculum is not uncommon. I have been homeschooling for 7 years and work as a homeschool consultant - there is a need for strong, solid curriculum that empowers families. I recommend things on this channel based on my personal and professional experience as a teacher, literacy consultant, and homeschool parent. You are welcome to your opinions, but you are not welcome to enter this space with inexperienced, judgmental critique.
